Herbert is gonna lead them to the win now :biglaugh:

And i'm not bullshitting. You can thank me for calling him out.

What a crazy fucking day of football in the first ever week 18.

I love a tie here. Bye bye big Ben, you piece of garbage.

Yeah, that time out was dumb. After that the raiders deserved a chance to win the game

That time out was one of the most boneheaded things I've ever seen from a coach.

He was interviewed earlier this week and said there would be absolutely no playing for a tie. I guess he stuck by his word.

Let's really think the last two plays of this game through before we say the timeout cost the Chargers the game:

Scenario 1: Chargers don't call timeout
  • The Raiders run it
  • The Raiders milk the clock to 0:02
  • The Raiders kick a FG
Scenario 2: Chargers do call timeout
  • Same as scenario 1 OR
  • Chargers stop the Raiders from getting 4 yards, call another timeout, and now the Raiders are in a position they might have to punt.
Basically the timeout allowed a scenario where the Raiders might not be able to try and win it. Their coach made some questionable plays, but the timeout was actually logical.

Carr mentioned it changed the situation, so a tie game could have happened. So there was more than 2 options.

Carr also said ""We knew no matter what, we didn't want a tie."... He was talking out of both sides.

A tie could've happened after the timeout. Techincally a Raiders win, Chargers win, and tie were all on the table until it was 0:00.

Herbert has one or two more years with chances to have as stacked of teams he could hope for. Once he gets paid 50 million+ a year. His team will be hurting in many other spots.

Correct, but to add more to the conundrum, the raiders head coach was saying his sideline was discussing a tie, but the timeout made him want to see what his team could do and they got a decent play after so he was fully on the win plan after that. Before he was more content on a tie though probably at a small %, but after that run he was all in on the win train. Which I agree on going for the win.

Yeah that's interesting. I'm not sure he wasn't playing for the tie after the timeout either. They did a fairly basic run play, which I'm guessing they were doing before, but the result prevented the Chargers from calling a timeout and putting the Raiders in a tough spot.

It's tough to take what any player/coach says after the fact because their story is going to be told in order to make them look as good as possible.

Probably unlikely, but Herbert might be one of the few NFL players who is willing to take less money in his prime for a better chance to win. He stayed at Oregon an extra year when he was already a top 5-10 pick. The guy isn't motivated the same way a lot of other NFL QBs are.

He's going to take all the money he can.
