Lighten up, people. Enjoy life how you want to enjoy it, and try not to force your views on other people. That's what got Hitler in trouble

8 1/2? So there's still hope they can get a top 5 lotto pick!

I think we've got some glaring holes (that have been obvious to some of us for a while) that need to be addressed.

Interior Defense.

Bench scoring.

Those are the two bug-a-boos right now. Our starting five made up for a lot of our sins by playing out of their minds for 25 games, but we all knew that couldn't last forever. The starters get tired, they get injured, and they can't sustain that kind of play for 82 games. We need to play CJ to see if he can provide the bench scoring that we need, but I still think we should look at trading for a big.

Some of us mentioned the minutes and got run out of the thread, but oh well.

For those ready to jump on me, I'm not saying they aren't better than last year because they are

This is low MM. I do not appreciate it. Your post hurts, man.

Of course if you try to say that, you'll just be told what our record is, which obviously means we have no holes or weaknesses at all.

I think people are over estimating the response to criticism. a few posters do not speak for the majority of posters.

Well that record is quickly becoming less and less of an advantage.

The amount of "told you so" and playing the "don't criticize the team or the soccer moms will show up" posts have been ridiculous the past week or so.

If we don't do something about our defense, we will continue to lose. It's just that simple.

We are 17 games over .500, and the 9th seed is .500, so its misleading to say we are only 8.5 games from missing the playoffs. The teams on the cusp of the playoff are not all going to go undefeated the next 9 games.

The teams at the edge of the playoffs would be expected to continue to be .500 level teams as they have been all year. So the Blazers are 17 straight losses from missing the playoffs.

The defense is the biggest concern for me. You just don't see a team with one of the 10 worst defenses have success in the playoffs. I'm not really sure what can be done about it. I wouldn't want to mess with our starting lineup but is bringing a defender off the bench for a few minutes really going to make that big of an improvement?

I think I'll just have to be happy with a playoff birth and hope this team can hit a hot streak in the playoffs. The Mavs got real hot shooting the ball and won a title. If we are draining jumpers it will mask a lot of problems on defense, lack of depth, or bench scoring.

So in the next 9 games, if we lost all of them and the teams in 9th and current playoff teams won all of theirs, we wouldn't be out of the playoffs by 1/2 game? Doesn't that mean 8 1/2 games?

So we're 8 1/2 games from keeping our 1st round pick in the strongest draft in years?

This is why I am still lukewarm about Ole'. He hit a HR with Lopez, but he just doesn't seem to put much attention into building a decent bench. Of course, if he hadn't whiffed on Leonar_, CJ, and Crabbe it would be a much better situation.

So, now were BLAMING Olshey for assembling a roster that's 26-9?

How did he whiff on Crabbe? The guy is a second rounder who made an NBA roster. Only 8 other second rounders from last June's draft even made a roster and only one of them, Nate Wolters, has gotten anything close to significant PT, and only because he plays on the worst team in the league. It's not like anyone taken after Crabbe is busting out and making us regret that pick.

BTW, the other second rounder Olshey picked, Jeff Withey is one of the other 8 second rounders who made an NBA roster. That means Olshey picked 2 of the 9 second rounders to make a roster. Of course, we had to give up Withey to hit that HR that landed us Lopez. I'd say Olshey also did a pretty good job drafting Lillard with the 6th pick.

Thats not possible as every team in the playoffs can't win all their games. Teams are constantly playing against each other. Thanks for doing a great job of illustrating how misleading your statements are.

All season long the 9th seed has been near .500 so that is the ballpark they are expected to be at. Thus the Blazers are 17 wins above the expected 9th seed.

Your numbers are the misleading ones, but whatever floats your boat

I guess I'm the only one that thinks our perimeter D is the problem?

Our interior D is good, the perimeter D just puts way too much pressure on them by not keeping their man in front of them.

Pick and roll D is also bad.

Portland is only 10.5 game from missing the playoffs right now if every team behind them wins every game and the Blazers lose every game.

It's the troof! Don't consider that the teams behind the Blazers play each other at times. Wut ifff they dint?

So, at 31-9, the Blazers would need to only go 20-22 to end up 51-31, and Memphis at #9 and 20-19, would need to go 31-12 to tie the Blazers for a playoff spot at the end of the bracket. I'll take my chances on Portland making the playoffs at this point. Anyone want to bet against it?
