The worst part is that it would cancel my fantasy league. What will I do all winter? Noooooo!!!

But that said, I am with the owners. Players getting, what, 56% of BRI? That's outrageous.

I heard they wouldnt decertify because all the guarenteed contracts/money would be NULL

Should I buy 2K11 now, or buy 2K12 when/if it comes out? I figure I'll be playing one or the other next season instead of watching games!

Do you guys really thing the NFL lawsuit will help the NBA ?

Hard to say, since the specific facts of the case will be somewhat different. I don't think the ruling was that lockouts are always illegal. But if current judicial sentiment is that lockouts are inappropriate use of the anti-trust powers granted to leagues, then it may well help the NBA.

Is there a draft if there is a lockout? If so, how could that be?

In football, it's because the draft isn't a part of the CBA. Only the signing of draftees relates to the CBA, and NFL teams can't sign their draftees until the lockout is ended. I would guess it's the same in the NBA, but I don't know for certain.

In the case of the NBA, the draft will be in late June while the current CBA runs through June 30th. As for the NFL, I don't know, other than the draft might be separate from their CBA (allocation of players vs. payment of players). Hell, you're the lawyer, so why are you asking us?

if the owners lock out the players im sure they can just hop the fence or something

Derek Fisher tanked the Lakers so he could have more time to negotiate for the NBPA... he sacrificed his team for the betterment of the other 29 teams... what a cool guy!

Hey HCP - What's the inside scuttlebutt on Stern? Is he really an avuncular good guy, or a cold hearted assassin? I say the latter.

Only been around him a few times. Never spoke to him, but watched him work the room. Very business-like, very respected. Seems all business all the time.

I have a really hard time believing that a majority of owners really want a hard cap.

i dont, they need rules to save them from themselves apparently...im sure there will be some sort of advantage to being super rich though

Yeah, I think most owners would love a hard cap. They get to spend less without any fan angst over the team being "cheap." They would still be charging the same for tickets, since all the same players would be in the league...the lost money would come entirely from players. What's to complain about from an owner standpoint?

very recent NFL appeals court sided with owners, some think they may be leaning toward owners when they deliver their final decision in early june, the players took a hit on that one. I am sure the NBA owners and players are following the NFL action very closely.

Yeah, but the big market teams lose the ability to outspend their small market counterparts and, for other teams even if you phase it in over a few years, some of them are going to be stuck with existing contracts that are going to really hamper their ability to make deals.

If Portland isn't allowed to get rid of Roy's boat anchor of a contract, we're pretty much three shades of fucked in 2013 under that CBA.

My wife and I are actually praying these guys can come to a mutual decision before any games are missed! Hope they get it done.
