The Official "Start Zach Collins" Thread

I would love to see Collins start, however Stotts likes experience unless your name is Lillard. Vonleh played much better when we had a true center to work with. His shot is better than people are giving him credit for and his defense and rebounding are what put him in the starting line up in the first place. Vonleh has had really good preseason numbers too, So let's wait until the season starts before we get to ahead of ourselves on these rooks. I've wanted Zach since watching him all last season at Gonzaga. This kid is an absolute stud. He would have went way higher in the draft if he had stayed another year in college. I do believe coach Few was quoted saying that he wanted to "hide him last season", but he was "just to good to not play." He really wanted him back for another year. A big line up of Vonleh, Swannigan , Collins and Nurkic is ridiculous! Throw in Davis where you want and we have one of the best big lineup's in the league. The future is so bright I have to wear rip city shades!
Rip City Shades?
Where do we get those?

That says 3 games played. I ran into the same problem with ESPN.

Look at those advanced stats though.

112.7 offensive rating
91.6 defensive rating
64.7 EFG%
64.4 TS%

Did you compare them with Swani's and Vonleh's (2016 & 2015 preseason stats)?

Collins needs weight and experience. We don't need a skinny Meyers Leonard from the 3.

Butters jump shot does NOT look nice. It's slow ADONAL FOYLE!
You're right. I was more referring to the second sentence I quoted rather than the first.

Regardless of his shooting form, he lacks the confidence to even take the shots, much less knock them down, when left wide open. Opposing teams know this and basically ignore Volneh when he's more than five feet from the basket.

Not only does Vonleh not create space, he is such a non-threat to score, it let's opposing defenses clog the lane and double team whoever has the ball. He really is a poor fit offensively in Stotts' system.

I think Collins, at least, has the shot and hopefully the confidence in his shot to keep opposing defenses honest. Sure, as a rookie, he'll hesitate to take the shots at times, but I think he'll quickly learn to take advantage of those open looks.

BNM
This. One of my pet peeves about Vonleh isn't that he couldn't shoot, it was that unguarded he refused to even look at the basket.

Both the rookies have looked excellent in pre-season so far. Collins has so much potential he should be seeing the floor immediately, a baptism of fire is what would serve him best.
So, naturally, I expect Stotts will do the opposite and serve up the 'Meyers Leonard' path of integration. Sporadic, confidence shattering minutes and forcing him to play Center even though he would flourish as a PF.

Tatter-Totts gonna Tate

OMG - this will be perfect when I post about how I hate Tater Totts (Terry Stotts)!

I think he and Ed are good dudes, but I really think they should be traded this year, probably Vonleh too so they don't have to pay him.

Ed should be resigned IMO. We'll retain him for cheap. He can backup the 5/4 spots. We need another big besides Nurk/Caleb/Collins. Vonleh is probably are best trade piece.

I don't think RFAs are attractive at all, especially those that haven't shown any kind of promise. I suppose Vonleh will stay here and hit restricted free agency next summer.

If you want Collins or Swanigan to get minutes as back up 4. Play one the 1st half and the other the 2nd half. You tell them this is going to be your role. Do for 1st 20 or 25 games. Then you be able find out who will be your back up out of those games.
