Spain 3-0 over Costa Rica 30’

Rough day for Germany fans. I’d bet it’s total meltdown mode for them.

Spain looks good but Costa Rica is trash. Panama was ahead of them in qualifying until like the last week lol

Costa Rica doesn’t belong here, they lucked out.

Damn! How is my Spain pick looking now. Seems like a sure thing they advance out of group play and teams like Germany and Argentina and US are a bit on the ropes

South Korea been cloning?!?!?

With Irans win over Wales, the USA will advance with a win over Iran as long as Wales doesn’t beat England.

1 game at a time, a win over England today would be huge.

A draw is better than a loss.

Crazy game.

0-0 ties. It's why I've never been able to get into soccer/football.

So they ran around for 90 mins and did not score? As i understand this is very good soccer? Bad soccer is when they score and the game is exciting?

Did i get that right? There was not a time at any point when you were on the edge of your seat like a 0-0 tie bottom of the 9th was there?

I know it's an unreasonable request, but being as we're all people who love something as trivial as basketball enough to spend time posting on an online message board about other people playing a game, maybe we could make an effort not to belittle other people's trivial interests? I mean...what's the value in coming in this thread about soccer, where people who actually are interested in the World Cup are posting, and either directly or passive-aggressively telling everyone how silly you think soccer is? I think we can be kinder and more respectful to each other.

Is it because the matches seem boring without goals?

Once we get to knockout stage 0-0 will result in overtime, and overtime is exciting. If it is scoreless after OT that is when it goes to a penalty shootout.

Penalty shootouts are full of excitement and anxiety.

There were shots which hit the post. A few opportunities, and a positive result (For USA fans). I was on the edge of my seat every time England was close to the penalty area. It’s actually a big deal to finish with a clean sheet against many opponents (otherwise it’s a disappointment not to).

USA defense played really well. Very well indeed, and most will tell you the same. May be some talk about how the English didn’t play their best match offensively, but the USA defense has done well in the first two matches.

This is the highest level, and you get one match against your opponent. I said that there would be 0-0’s in the World Cup. It’s because teams are often content with a draw and the 1 point they get from it.

The stakes are high.

Fair enough. Wasn’t trying to belittle the interest just wondering when they will change the rules so somebody wins?

Friend of mine who watches regularly said US was playing for a tie. So I guess that means they accomplished what they set out to do.

Announcers kept mentioning Germany’s loss to Mexico 4 years ago and the German’s disappointing 2018.

Going to be tough for them now. Will need to beat Spain and Costa Rica, while hoping for the loser of Japan Vs Spain to have a tough game against Costa Rica.

*Spain currently up 1-0 against Costa Rica*

Germany won the World Cup like 12-16 years ago. I think Thomas Muller was on that squad.

Edit: They won it in 2006 and 2010.
That's not correct. Germany won in 2014.
Spain won in 2010
Italy won in 2006

Sure....then there will be result with a winner/loser. Ending in a tie is bad enough. Ending in a 0-0 tie is just not my think. Not belittling anyone or anything...just not my cup of tea. I go to Timbers games and can enjoy a tight, quality match with at least a goal or two and a decision with a winner/loser. Didn't know scoreless ties not being my thing would be so controversial.

2026 World Cup

Would be cool to go to Seattle to see the USA play.

On June 16, 2022, the sixteen host cities were announced by FIFA, separated into three geographical divisions: Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Guadalajara in the Western Division; Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Monterrey, and Mexico City in the Central Division; and Toronto, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Miami in the Eastern Division (2 in Canada, 3 in Mexico, and 11 in the United States)

If we go by this year, what is the most corrupt process city out of all of those listed?

My bad. Germany was only the host one of those years I listed
Yes i remember in 2006 when i was 12 years old. It was awesome. The whole nation was cheering for the Team and the whole country was united. Fans from all over the world said this is the best world cup ever. I was devastated when we lost to Italy in the semifinals in overtime though, but it was an amazing experience

I don't really care for soccer. I tuned in because it's Team USA. It was actually somewhat exciting. England was supposed to destroy us. Watching a game of extreme defense was intriguing. Every time each team got towards the goal, especially as it got close to the end, the intensity built. It was somewhat exciting. OT was more intense with a free kick for each side. I was really hoping for Team USA to win, but a 0-0 tie against England was big.

I LOVE when people hate soccer or say it’s not a sport!!!
They’re paying my FAMS $255,000 over the next 4 years for my daughter to play it. Sport or not.

Please tell me she doesn’t fall down and hide her face every time an opposing player bumps into her?
Do they have a soccer “Flopping” school?

I think soccer is the one sport where the women are tougher than the guys ... even in the HS games I cover the boys are flopping on the ground acting like they got shot, girls will full speed run into each other and then hop up and keep playing.

Don't think anyone ever says it's not a sport, it might be an extremely boring sport, but it's still a sport.
