Bush first said he was "wanted dead or alive" and that status has been maintained ever since. That means you kill the fucker if you have the opportunity. And I think Obama gave the order to just kill him. Don't run the risk of the guy slipping away again (I'm sure this compound had some nifty escape routes) and its preferable to Obama and the military if they killed him than if one of his cronies shot him.

And like brainiac says a trial is a big clusterfuck. You still have him alive inspiring the extremists. You have to go through a trial and all that shit. I would imagine Obama's big "fuck you, Pakistan and fuck you, world" in storming the place without permission would be a much bigger deal.

I think you are missing the big picture here. If the intelligence community is incompetent in dealing with the press, who the fuck cares.

The intelligence community was very competent in the most important aspect . . . they got bin Laden. Maybe we can keep our eye on the ball in this historic moment.

"wanted dead or alive" doesn't mean the same thing as "wanted dead". There are either orders to "capture or kill" or "shoot on sight". Apparently this was a "shoot on site" order to assassinate bin laden.

Why do we even put Khalid Shiek Mohammed through a trial. Why not shoot him and say he was "resisting" in prison? This is the same administration who wanted to try KSM..you know..the guy who actually planned 9/11... in a civilian court in Manhattan for fucks sake.

You are all over the place. maybe bin Laden is dead, maybe died years ago, maybe alive. Maybe the order was to shoot and kill maybe the order was take alive if possible. Maybe your optimal strategy is fact what they are doing . . . we really don't know anything if we won't beleive anything the gov't tells us.

Apparently not. The competent thing to do would be to take him alive and actually make him accountable. I guess he is more valuable dead than alive, and there is no need for a lengthy process of bringing him to justice when putting a bullet in his head is the "easy thing to do".

Of course that is how you interpret keeping your eye on the ball. I'm glad our president was so hung up with every little aspect of how to handle it that he lost sight of the goal, get bin Laden. I am exploring the issues of the raid itself, timing, the reasoning behind so, and various other aspects, not "ZOMG, OBAMA CHANGE HOPE BLAH BLAH BLAH". We all know what you are doing, trying to attack the gov't saying it's not "really" attacking Obama. Whatever, attacking the way the gov't handled this is attacking Obama. I would say I'm sorry you don't see this, but you know and see this. Just using gov't instead of Obama, but you are taking shots at Obama.

And that is where I don't get all these points you are raising against the gov't. It's like if the Blazer won the championship we start complaining about the back up PG situation during the series or why Nate did or did not get techincals.
