Did anyone else watch the Oscars last night? If so, did anyone else think they were as horrible as I did. How many times do we have to see people that we have never heard of win an award for being in a film that NOBODY I know saw? Forrist Whitiaker for best actor in a leading role??!!?!?!?!?!?! For the movie "The Last King of Scotland"??!!?!?!?!?!?!?! 1st of all, Whitaker is and OK actor that should never pass the supporting role as an actor. 2nd of all, NOBODY saw "The Last King of Scotland", let alone ever HEARD of it. Pans Labyrnith was nominated in every category. Anyone ever heard of this one? From the clips that they showed, it looked like a cross between Lord of the Rings and a piece of sh#t. Will Smith should have been a lock for best actor and The Departed should have swept the rest of the awards. The only bright spot was Will Farrell's "A Comedian at the Ocars" song. It rang so true. No matter how much a comedy sells, no matter how great everyone thought the movie was, the "Academy" seems to think that a drama takes more talent and should be looked upon as a better film. I have to go now, but I am fairly outraged. Ill have more on this later.

Your post is significant of most of the American movie goers that make movies like Date Movie and Stomp the Yard number one. Just a disgrace.I'm sorry you don't want to find real cinema and don't know about Guillermo Del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth". Better yet have the nerve to write off "The Last King of Scotland," which has been praised and talked about on BBW. Just because you never heard of it, why should we give a sh*t. Forest Whitaker is a underrated actor and had every right to win that award for best actor. Have you seen the performance, if not what are you to judge how good it was. You praise Will Smith and Will Ferrell as the bright spots, that says a lot. I'm not digging at Smith, but his best role was in Ali. He's repetitive and like Ferrell, have a shtick in their movies. My thoughts on the Oscars, I felt they were predictable, the winners were known in the major categories. Alan Arkin won rightfully so and I was glad to see Martin Scorcese win even though it was a handout as The Departed was not by far his best film. It was just a makeup by the awards to finally give him one. Paul Greengrass should have won for United 93. But to be nominated, let alone is an achievement for the director.

One of the best acting performances I've ever seen. He has taken all the best actor awards for a reason. Just because the movie didn't have as much money and couldn't get into as many theatres doesn't in my opinion mean it shouldn't get recognition at the Oscars. Who cares if the Oscars gives awards to movies that didn't make American theatres. There are so many other pointless award shows that can give all the big movies awards. There are so many great little films out there, the Oscars gives those people recognition.

Just because a lot of his films seem to have some similarity doesn't mean sh#t. His range WITHIN those roles is what makes him a good actor. He can make a comedy that much funnier and he can make a drama that much more real. From "Six Degrees of Separation" (pheonominal acting) to Bad Boys to Independence Day to The Legend of Bagger Vance (again, PHEONOMINAL acting) to Ali to even Hitch. Ali may have been his best acting job up until Pursuit. But I think this one takes the crown for Smith. Tell me you didnt feel something for his character in The Pursuit of Happiness. It really could have been the only film that gave The Departed a run for its money. Alan Arkin winning was great and justified. He has been a great actor in a large range of films. The film to me looks more like Del Toro's previous film Hellboy.

I have seen the Last King of Scotland (btw. I saw it in our dollar theatre). I was speaking for the majority of the general population. I had a number of people call me that night and ask if I had ever heard of it. Not if I had seen it, but if I had HEARD of it.

The Oscars don't give out movies based off their popularity but based off merit and performances. It's been the same for years.

Comedies have been nominated before and comedic actors as well. I do agree there's a slant against them but it's not like there outcasted from the awards.

Understood but your post wrote off films because they had not been seen by the public and I felt that was bullsh**. Just because you never heard of a film or seen it due to low commercial build or theater run, it's not out of the ordinary for them to be gems and awarded for their work. Which is why I threw out the Stomp the Yard/Date movie comment. If it was popularity, those are movies the public know and that's sad.
