How about that LaMarcus Aldridge eh? The guy is the next Tim Duncan and 10 years from now he'll be Duncan's current age. Sign the man Neil! Players will want to come to Portland to play with him because he's not only unselfish on the court, he's a nice guy.

Give Sly a break meese, he's doing a great job and running a complaint department can't be an easy task.

He may be a nice guy but comparing him to Timmy D is a disservice to Mr. Duncan. That guy has made the playoffs almost if not every year of his career, has multiple titles, was an incredible defensive player and a very efficient offensive player. So far, LA is much closer to Kevin Love. Both are stats compilers without doing much in the playoffs if they get there at all.

Aldridge couldn't hold Duncan's jock strap on defense. That's for sure.

Comparing Lamarcus to Love is a disservice to LA in my view. Next Tim Duncan implies best PF in the game when Duncan retires. Love is not that guy. LA will be in my opinion but I'm looking ahead here, not back. LA is defensively way beyond Kevin Love. He's not Duncan yet, but he's on his way

LA isn't going to magically become a great defender at this point in his career. Duncan is a hall of famer. Aldridge is not. Love might be a shitty teammate and a poor defender, but he's putting up the kind of numbers that get you into the Hall. Unless Aldridge starts winning championships, I doubt he goes down as one of the best power forwards ever. Duncan might be the best power forward ever, so it's really a disservice to Duncan to compare him to a guy who might not even be the best power forward in the present.

we disagree about LA

Which part? You think he's going to make the Hall of Fame?

Yeah I do and I think he's tied for best PF in the game right now. A lot of NBA players agree with me. The only Blazer on the roster that wouldn't is LA himself.

I think he's top two or three, but I don't think he's the clear-cut best power forward. I also think last season was the first season where he put up numbers that would qualify for the Hall. He would have to keep that up for at least four or five more seasons. I'm just very skeptical man. I think he's really good, don't get me wrong, but not HOF good. And, again, Duncan is arguably the best power forward ever. That's why I would never compare the two literally.

I haven't read every post in this thread, but here's the bottom line, as far as I can tell. Aldridge is refusing to sign a new contract, which means that he could walk at the end of next year and leave us with nothing. Isn't it imperative for Portland to explore trading him, rather than be left empty-handed?

Have I missed anything?

Duncan at this age was a first team all nba player first team all nba defender and multiple time NBA champion. Nice try though.

Not complaining about his work just want to make sure we don't have too many double standards running around

Best PF when Duncan retires will be Anthony Davis.

The next tim duncan? Ummm... no. LMA is not going to be the greatest Power Foward of all time.

I'm defensively way beyond Kevin Love... that doesn't mean anything.

To be fair Love would be a pretty good low post defensive center unfortunately that leaves him to guard Pekovic if he leaves Minnesota, Hibbert, Al Jefferson and that is about it.

Huh?

In terms of LMA being a Hall of Fame player, if he keeps his production up for 6 more years, he'll be in the 20k points/10k rebound club. That's a lot to ask, but he'll only be 34 at the end of 6 seasons.

Here are the other players with those stats. Dirk is a lock to make it, too, since he's only ~400 rebounds away from joining this club.

1 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar*
2 Wilt Chamberlain*
3 Karl Malone*
4 Tim Duncan
5 Kevin Garnett
6 Shaquille O'Neal
7 David Robinson*
8 Charles Barkley*
9 Moses Malone*
10 Hakeem Olajuwon*
11 Robert Parish*
12 Bob Pettit*
13 Walt Bellamy*
14 Patrick Ewing*
15 Elvin Hayes*
16 Elgin Baylor*

Best PF when Duncan retires will be Anthony Davis.

in the 2014-2015 season AD will have to stay on the court to even be considered ahead of David Lee, Z-Bo, and Dirk...

A player cannot become the best at a position injured.

The real question is, can AD's frame handle the banging the PF position requires?
Right now the answer is no it cannot.

He's not big enough to be a low-post player for 82 games. He has the skills to be an outside/in player, like Dirk, but he doesn't have the range yet. Defensively, Davis is very good on the weak side, but straight-up he gets abused in the post. He's a very unique player, but his history of injury would be a concern to me if I am the Pelicans.

I would take the 1st pick for Aldridge. Both Exum and Wiggins are worth it.

I would rank them: Exum, Lebron, Wiggins.
Exum is younger than Lebron and would fit better than Wiggins. Also I don't want to be a Lebron team.
LA for Exum Neil, that's the deal!
