The "Sharpe just did some crazy shit!" thread

Obviously a ways to go on both ends, but you can see the potential. Already a threat from '3', if he can improve his handle to create space, he becomes a dual threat. Add to that the additional size and defensive recovery ability on the defensive end, and from an all-around standpoint, he has the ability to be the best backcourt player since Clyde. As important as any of his physical skills, will be the mental maturation. How much alpha does he have in him?

I think he has looked a lot more confident and aggressive lately.

Sharpe is getting a chance to play through mistakes which is what he always needed. So little real opportunity court time in the last 2 years. Now he needs to make the most of what should be 30+ minutes a night for the rest of the season.

I honestly think that Joe's plan is to put together a package of Ant, Nurk and multiple firsts for an all star to put with Dame, Shae and Jerami. I think the plan is to build around these three guys. I'd be shocked if we included Shae and our first rounder unless we were getting back a superstar entering their prime... I guess we'll see.

I still come back to Ant + picks for Siakam. Not likely to end up with Embiid or Giannis, but Siakam I think would be better than Jimmy Butler honestly.

For a REALLY big move, I wonder if the Blazers send the Knicks pick to the Bulls to satisfy the 1st round pick obligation. Then they could trade say the '25/27 pick/picks if it was for a huge piece. That would be risky or would need some protection, because by the time of those later picks, Dame will be that much older and Father Time is undefeated.

Honestly, it gives me a reason to watch the games the rest of the season. I'll tune in for Nightshade.

you mean the 2nd best back court player since Clyde because Dame is pretty obviously the best guard Portland has ever had...

******************************************************************

I'm a huge Dame fan. He's been the main reason I've watched games over the last few years because the team has always had olshey-issues. But Sharpe has become a secondary reason to watch so I'd hate to see him traded

being that huge of a Dame fan, I'd be open to mortgaging SOME, a little-not-all, of the future to try and give Dame a shot at a title. But if the Blazers are giving up multiple first's + Sharpe + Ant + filler for a player, it had better be a top-15 player. You don't give up that kind of package for Siakam, And I remain convinced that kind of package will fall well below the level of what other teams would offer for this hypothetical top-15 player. Way too many teams have young players who have shown as much as Sharpe and still have much better draft assets to use as leverage

there's another factor as well: Portland IS taking care of Dame and IS trying to give him that shot. Last summer, they gave him an additional 121M dollars, guaranteed. The Blazers have paid Dame close to 230M and are scheduled to pay him 225M more. Portland has rewarded Dame as much as they could have excluding a ring. And they did that as they were dismantling a dysfunctional roster of mismatched role players in an effort to create a path to contention

I would hope Blazer management has had some honest and practical conversations with Dame about what the situation is. The Blazers, thru contracts, have already mortgaged much of their future in a commitment to Dame. Mortgaging most of what other future they have in hand, right now, chasing what may be a very faint dream would not be good for the franchise. Dame has to know this and since he's not stupid I think he probably does know this

meaning the ball is in his court. Portland is unlikely to find a path to immediate contention this in the next draft and this summer. Portland becoming a contender over the next 2-3 seasons is likely a long-shot at best. So Dame has to decide if the 225M Portland will pay him over the next 4+ seasons plus being in the city he obviously cares about is enough. If retiring without a ring is balanced by other factors. If it's not then Dame has to decide if he wants to be traded. But Portland HAS to tell Dame that they will look for the best deal they can find and that does not guarantee he will be traded to a contender

in other words, Dame has two choices IMO: 1) he can accept that the Blazers will be holding onto their best youth and best future picks and won't trade him if he doesn't ask; or 2) he can ask for a trade and accept he has no leverage to demand a destination

I heard Chicago gets to make the decision on that Knicks pick. Should the Blazers offer it?? Absolutely! That pick dropped off the high assets table when Josh Hart helped New York go on a massive winning streak. Trying to combine #22 with let's say #6 probably won't bump it up to #4 or #5.

Shae has every possible tool, including defense. He's confident, measured, in control, and unflappable. And 19 years old. The Blazers have only two players I would not trade: Dame and Sharpe.

Conveniently, the previous part of that sentence was left out, and I had just mentioned Sharpe's defensive potential. Dame is by far the best offensive player, but you have to either forget, ignore or try to rationalize the defensive side for most of his career. What has made it worse for his career, is GM's that add another guard who doesn't play defense next to him......set up for failure.

It's all potential with Sharpe on both sides, and who knows how far either side will go, but it's fascinating to think about.

Agreed. Sharpe probably could become the best backcourt player we’ve ever had.

Back when I said this about Dame when he got drafted, people were saying he’d be a slightly better Chauncey Billups or a slightly worse Derrick Rose.

NBA Top 10. Sharpe is #2. Should be #1.

This clip is cued up to the Sharpe segment.

"Nobody in the NBA flies like this guy."

19 yr olds should not be finishing like that around elite rim protectors.

In a way, it's like he's playing chess, while others are playing go fish. And he's not yet good at chess, but when he does, it'll be something other worldly.

Amazing that not even Dame did this before:

All right, I'm a convert!

Older fans would probably guess (or know) that this is not true. Rookie Geoff Petrie had 11 games in row of 25+ points, which included three 40+ point games. He had six 40+ point games for the season.
Rookie Sidney Wicks ended his season scoring 25+ in five consecutive games (six if you include the playoffs).
Both Petrie and Wicks were 22 years old as rookies.

That play by SS around Govert was so smooth. He made it look so easy. Too easy. Casual. It’ll go down in history as two points. But not many players can do that and make it look so simple and casual like that. As a die-hard baseball fan, there are defensive players that make so many plays look basic but most guys don’t make it happen (like Brandon Crawford at shortstop).

Um, they didn't make the playoffs that year...or in any year that Wicks played for the Blazers.

Not only that, he didn't end his rookie year scoring 25+ in 5 consecutive games. He scored 25+ in games 76-81, and then scored 7 in the final game (only the 2nd time that year he scored under 10).

It comes so easy for him. Almost to the point where it's a mundane play for him.
Shaedon was out shooting three pointers on the court before the Kings game on Friday. He calmly took a few shots at each of about 10 different spots around the 3 point line. Set shots that went in almost all of the time. He made about 85% of them. He only missed 3 total.
Shaedon , on open 3-pointers, might already be a consistent 3-point shooter game-to-game because of the way he shoots. He could be another 40% threat like Grant was this season.

Dr J. We can call him Dr. Sharpe.

Thank you for the correction.
Wicks scored 25+ in 6 consecutive games.

in case you missed this ridiculous play in live action.... watch the replay

I'm kind of a klutz; always have been. So I'm speaking to something I don't really know about, but is does seem that really good players operate on an instinctive level a lot of the time. They just react. How many time do you suppose it's been that Shape has attacked a guy like Gobert from that angle? Maybe never? But he was able to not only adjust his body but switch hands, all while in the air. I'm skeptical most players could have done something like that but we've seen Sharpe do something similar several times already

I seriously doubt that Cronin will trade this guy. I also seriously doubt Dame wants him to

Shaedon told Casey he was studying film and figured he'd have to get wide and extend to score on Rudy. And he just... did it. Ridiculous natural talent.

This is what you see when you go to re-watch the game on League Pass.
