Thought this was amusing:

A sculpture of an enormous bronze-coloured shoe has been erected in Iraq to honour the journalist who threw his shoes at ex-US President George W Bush.

Shoe thrown at Bush inspires art!

Yup...In Iraq nonetheless...

BAGHDAD – When an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at George W. Bush last month at a Baghdad press conference, the attack spawned a flood of Web quips, political satire and street rallies across the Arab world.

Now it's inspired a work of art.

A sofa-sized sculpture — a single copper-coated shoe on a stand carved to resemble flowing cloth — was formally unveiled to the public Thursday in the hometown of the late Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein.

Officials and visitors walked around the outdoor sculpture during the brief ceremony, pondering on its eccentricities — such as a tree poking up from the shoe's interior.

Its sculptor called it a fitting tribute to the shoe hurler, Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi, and his folk hero reputation in parts of the Muslim world and beyond.

The Baghdad-based artist, Laith al-Amari, said the work honors al-Zeidi and "is a source of pride for all Iraqis." He added: "It's not a political work,"

I'll never forget that smooth Bush reaction time. Greatest moment he had.

If someone makes a post and no one responds, does it exsist?

I think it does . . . so this thread should be merged with barfo's thread. :D

Well, I imagine Bush once thought he'd have statues built in tribute to him in Iraq. There's a legacy for you.

It's early yet. His impact won't be acknowledged for a few decades.

If ever. One could argue the only meaningful impact he made was in the lives of the families of the dead soldiers, he brought over there for questionable causes.

But I digress, my friend is making 400K flying Generals around the middle east and Europe.......

So, let's put him up with the other murderers--Washington, Madison, Lincoln, Grant, Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, GHW Bush and Clinton.

That's a nice gig. I wonder how soon President Obama decides your friend makes too much money.

How so? All those Presidents had soldiers die under them.
Going over to Iraq starting some "war" for no reason (real intel???) is completely a different case.

Typical. The one who earns the money wants to keep it. The one who lives off the one who earns the money is a bleeding heart.

How do you know she doesn't make more than him? Assumptions are a bitch.

There are indications we knew about the U-boat that sunk the Lusitania. Germany didn't attack us; Japan did. There was no reason to go into Korea or Vietnam.

As for the intel, we're not the only ones who thought it was real. So did the Brits, the French, the Germans, the Russians, the Saudis, the Israelis and the Chinese. Try to get our eight countries to agree on anything else.

Does she? And if she does, what does she do?

The funny thing is, you keep assuming that you think they voted differently because of money and their wealth status.. As if all people that make over 250K or whatever could never vote Obama, it'd be like giving their money away; nah, it couldn't be about the candidates issues, or their own personal morale's and principals.

I know there are plenty of people who are liberal and make a lot of money. Those people are my favorite because they're some of the biggest hypocrites. They're the type that drive Prius' yet fly private jets and complain about the plight of the American auto industry. In fact, the wealthier you are, the more disconnected from reality you become, especially if you're second generation and don't make most of your money from salary.

When exactly are we getting out of that place. They don't want us there, our president doesn't want us there . . . has a timeline been set yet?

I was told by the President when he was a candidate that we would leave immediately. I'm still waiting for the oceans to stop rising, however, so it may be a while.

Nice item Barfo (seriously, I liked it). ... (However, enough of that. Back to the not so serious) But at first, I was a little disappointed because from the thread title (and since it was from you), I thought it was a reference to Maxwell Smart. Then as I read thru the news story, I started thinking about Bush and wondering if he bobbed and weaved, jinked and/or juked, or just plain ducked down (and covered up). As a political symbolic gesture, if Nikita can use his in N.Y.C. why can't Zaida use his in Tikrit? Of course, the man took one hell of a risk, I think. Who was to know whether or not it was/wasn't an IED. Which leads to the question: Was this a failure on the part of and therefore and embarassment to the Secret Service?
