Wow... its feels like forever boys! Hope you all had a nice summer. Today is the first day of Autumn. Since training camp begins in a few days, it means so does a new season. Thats a hidden message for those who remember my promise. So I thought I would give you all my thoughts on the Blazers off season/summer.

First of all, I haven't posted since the Blazers were eliminated on April 30th. http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140952&highlight=mixum That was such a sad night for me. Not so much the Blazers were eliminated but more that the season was over and how much i knew i would miss it. It felt like October couldn't come soon enough yet it was so far away. As the draft approached I remember thinking we prob be pretty quiet and just make some small moves like trading Sergio. I could hear Maris crying all the way form CT. It was the right move as you all know I never saw him as part of a championship team. He will post decent numbers for Sac but his defense is just awful and he cant shoot. That means hes fairly useless for good teams. I was fairly upset that the Spurs got Jefferson and the Magic got Carter because that basically left us with limited options for SF. Going into this summer, I wanted 2 things. A new PG and a new SF. I have said it 1000 times. Your SF cant score 5-10 a night if you want to advance deep in the playoffs. Batum might have improved over the summer but hes still shaky on offense. this is why I begged Kp to trade for Carter, Wallace or Jefferson at the deadline as you all recall. Claver looks like he has potential but its a project we wont likely ever see. Who cares.

So the Fourth of July weekend rolls around. We all knew who the Blazers wanted as soon as MB mentioned Hedo in his blog saying the Magic wouldn't resign him. I never really was worried he wouldnt sign here to be honest but that interview he gave to O-Live when he arrived said it all to me. His voice sounded like he was just going through teh motions with no intent. I was thrilled when he "signed" according to Espn. But then that Friday night, i saw
that we had been screwed by Hedo and his wife. That was like losing a playoff game. I thought the contract was a bit insane but hes a player who fit perfectly here. Exactly what we needed.. a 3rd scorer. huge reason we lost to Houston. Anyway, it was a depressing 4th with that news. Poor Jay Jenson and that stupid sign. My god. I just wanna know who made the turkish techno cd.

So a few days later Im on Block Island (having lunch with an amazing view of the ocean outside our hotel) for a few days with the GF and I read on my phone "Roy and Aldridge talks arent going well" I mean talk about a buzz kill! First Hedo rips our hearts out... then this little gem from Quick? I mean could the summer be a bigger disaster at that point? Let me just say though, I never was worried about either. I knew Roy would sign and I know L.A. will by the deadline. If not.. we can just match next summer. The truth is your bigger concern is pissing them off making them not like teh franchise but like I said, i never worried about Roy and I have no worries about L.A. It will get done.

Then came Mr. Millsap which was an absolute joke on our part. "A poison contract" LMAO! Everyone in the world knew they were gonna match. Only good news is it kinda screwed the Jazz up cap wise.... so they say. But yah, signing Millsap was like shooting a half court shot to win the game. 1% chance it goes down. Only if they failed to see the offer in that week span. It was laughable to hear some of you and Quick say we could always target another SF or trade for one after the Hedo nightmare. My question was WHO? Prince isnt going anywhere, Wallace isn't, Butler isn't and who else would you really want? Stephen Jackson? He fits here as much as Sheed would. Lets face it... theres not much to trade for at SF. THAT IS WHY I WANTED A TRADE SO BADLY LAST FEB! We had a perfect chance to upgrade without giving up talent. How greta would Jefferson or Carter look? Now we depend on Webster (who's never healthy) and Batum (who cant score to save his life.) Great.

Enter Mr Miller. I said a long long time ago this was our guy. We tried trading for him at the last minute. Love this signing. i know he cant shoot the three but he does everything else Blake doesnt. It will be nice to see a PG set up oden and aldridge the right way. he can also get 17-20 a night. he's not Hedo but he's a nice addition. This move I was on board with 100%!

Oden is God LOL. Its amazing how many PMs I got about this dude. Its quite interesting though. He actually PMed me and asked why you all thought I was him. I told him cause he was negative like me. The strange thing was, and i never thought Id find another.... he was a Blazer ad Buffalo Bill fan like me. Thats very rare. If you guys think Im hard on the bLazers... its nothing compared to the Bills lol. i could only dream the Bills would follow the Blazers footsteps in rebuilding a franchise. Btw.. I was in Foxboro for the Monday Night Nightmare. Only the Bills could rip your heart out like that. Pats fans are complete scum bags BTW. Anyway Oden is god was all over these boards all summer so i though id mention that in my recap. But no... he could never be Mixum.

In closing, August was and always is a dead month in the NBA. Just baseball and Pre Season NFL. It was a long summer here in the Northeast. Cold and rainy. Not much went right for the Blazers this past Summer when you really think about it. We put all our eggs in the Hedo basket and lets just say the basket dropped down a flight of stairs. I think KP has to sign L.A. for this summer to get a passing grade. Miller would still be a Blazer even if Hedo signed. We would have done a sign and trade. Outlaw wouldn't be here. He should thank Hedo. KP has only slightly upgraded us if Im being honest. We still have no banger at PF. Oh wait.... we signed Jauron Howard in Sept. Who cares. He's this years Ruffin/Randolph I assume? We still have no SF who can score and who knows if this Euro ball will effect Rudy or Nic. Those 2 are already hurt. No rest at all this summer for 2 key players. Well the season is around the corner, Im excited but a bit disappointed with the whole Blazer summer. I did miss you guys and its good to be back. I will post more once the pre season gets under way but I hope you didnt enjoy the silence too much cause..... MIXUM IS BACK  and so is the NBA! Damn Ive missed it!

the NBA season hasn't started yet.

its close enough

Nope, sorry. you said if they made the playoffs you wouldn't say 1 thing negative until the season starts. unless you're not a man of your word.

And the season doesn't start till late October.

Well theoretically the season either starts when free agency starts for 2009-2010, or when media day signals the start of the 2009-2010 pre-season and training camp.

So either Mixum is two and a half months late, or a week early.

That's how I roll! Alright somebody lock this wack-ass thread!

Hedo is gonna tear shit up in Toronto. When do we play the Blazers? I should schedule a post game winners party at my house when the Raptors destroy the Failzers.

Yeah, Hedon't should elevate the Raps almost to the level of also-rans.

LOL. Toronto. What a joke...

The "Failzers" was a nice touch, though.

Nice to see you back, mixum. You're like the crushed garlic in our ice cream sunday. Wouldn't taste the same without it.

Pretty good point about Vince Carter. I was really on the Ron Artest bandwagon (which was a bandwagon of pretty much one), but Carter would look good on this team.

I disagree that you have to get more than 5-10 a night to win in the playoffs, though. That pretty much describes the career of Bruce Bowen, and the Spurs won three championships with him as a starter. Trevor Ariza averaged 9 ppg with the Championship Lakers. Udonis Haslem averaged 9.3 for the champ Heat. Pistons even had that with Prince, who only averaged 10.3 ppg that year. The Kobe/Shaq Lakers won three rings with Rick Fox averaging under 10.

Fact is that if you look at recent champions, the model is to have a 6'6-6'8 defensive specialist on your roster who isn't relied on much for scoring. (The only recent exception was the Celtics, and they had Pierce and Ray Allen.) Why? Because invariably you wind up facing a McGrady, Kobe, Arenas, LeBron, Joe Johnson, etc, and you don't want your own star swing man burning up his energy trying to guard him.

If you follow history, Hedo was exactly the WRONG kind of small forward to add to a championship roster. He's not a defensive stopper, and he's not a Paul Pierce-quality SF. He didn't solve any problem other than problem of Aldridge, Roy and Oden getting too many shots.

What did hcp do this summer? Spent most of his days reminding everyone on here that he's friends with travis outlaw. thats gonna suck for good ole h-c-p when he gets traded lol.

seriously... without a doubt the biggest ego award goes to...

Welcome back Maxi, I mean Mixum. Good post, and I pretty much agree with it, except I was less excited about Hedo. When we "signed" him, I took to convincing myself that he was our man, but I felt that he was a minor upgrade for a huge contract. Miller on the other hand I think will be a really nice addition, but still won't be a huge difference maker.

As far as quickly dismissing Batum at SF, did you watch any of his play this summer? I was really impressed by what I saw, and I think he very well could be the main improvement on the Blazers. Only time will tell, but his already heady defense now infused with some actual offense will hopefully lead to a quality starting SF. As for Webster, it doesn't hurt to have him back, but until he shows me something, I think he is nothing of importance.

Our improvement next year hinges on 3 players, the meshing of Miller and the growth of Batum and Oden. We already know what we are getting from LMA and Roy, which is great, but those other three will determine if we are now contenders.
