C J is building his brand the right way...he'll end up president of the players association one day...book it

Without question he will be. The NBAPA would be moronic to not have him at least in consideration.

Just ran into and chatted with Meyers at PDX as I landed. He was on his way out.......hmmmmmm
Did you work the boxing match at the Forum? I watched it with my dad last night and saw the ref in the way of the action several times. I thought I recognized your work.

They're not trading him for a 29 year old Ryan Anderson who makes 20 million a year.

Agreed. They'll want more than that. My point is that we don't exactly have the options to get him either.

Where have you been?

The Knicks want Harkless. They don't want Ryan Anderson.

Melo has a no trade clause so the Knicks hands are tied to where Melo wants to go.

A better argument is that Melo won't waive his no trade clause to come here.

Haven't been paying much attention, eh?
Last I checked, Ryan Anderson was at least a second option and put up decent numbers with Orlando and New Orleans. Harkless just hit double digits on scoring for the first time this year (10.0 ppg).

I'm not saying Anderson is a superstar and Harkless is garbage, I'm simply saying that we're in no position to be laughing at anyone when it comes to bargaining chips.

Regardless of your own personal feelings about Harkless, literally every trade rumor involving Melo has centered around the fact that

1.) Knicks don't want Anderson, or else the deal would be done already.
2.) Knicks want Harkless.

So clearly, he's more valuable to them.
Sure they want Harkless...as about 25% of the deal. The two players aren't equivalent.

If Melo didnt have a no trade clause hed be a blazer

This is entertaining if only to piss off Rocket fans.

Yeah, I'm super-indifferent to acquiring Melo from a basketball standpoint. I don't think he's great, but I also don't think he'd cost much (Harkless isn't a high cost, IMO) so I'm good either way. But I'd love for it to happen just to anger Houston fans.

Really? Where was this reported? I'm not doubting you, I just haven't seen it.

It's been widely reported by nearly everyone that for Melo to go to the Rockets, they wanted Harkless from Portland.
Portland didn't want Anderson's contract, nor does NY.
Houston was looking for a 4th team
NY doesn't want Nards & Portland was demanding he be part of the trade to help facilitate the trade. Aka give NY want they want.

Now Portland says they'll no longer facilitate because Anderson for Harkless + Nards is idiotic.

If you've been paying attention to Woj for the past week you'd know all this.

I should add that from my perusal of Clutchfans (always a guilty pleasure, especially when things aren't going the Rockets' way), they seem to consider Anthony a superstar who would put them on the same level as Golden State. While I think that's a laughable idea, they'd probably view Portland getting Anthony as stealing their chance at beating Golden State and winning a title. Them feeling that way would make me so happy.

Anderson, at his current salary, is garbage. He isn't a second option, but he's being paid like one. He's aging. Nobody wants him.

Neil, for the love of god, do this. Oh the salty tears would be so great. I just want to do the trade purely for this now.

It's like they think they're getting the Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony from five years ago.

Well, to be fair, I'd still say Paul is a top-ten player even if no longer at his absolute peak. Anthony though...isn't. Great name value, though.

Eh, I don't think I'd put Paul in the top 10 at this point. There are probably 10 players that are better. I definitely think Curry and Westbrook are better at this stage of their careers.

Minstrel, in a way, I would prefer them getting Anthony and having them fall comically short, leaving them salary hamstrung for the forseeable future.

Also, Anthony's not that great anymore. That seems to get lost a lot. New York doesn't want just cap relief, they seem to want cap relief plus an interesting young player or two. Neither Cleveland nor Houston has those (or, really, any other types of assets they'd be willing to trade). New York's options are pretty capped--even Portland might not be an option for them, it depends on whether Anthony is willing to go to Portland. Assuming Portland becomes an acceptable destination for Anthony, New York's choices are junk (Houston), Harkless and perhaps Vonleh (plus a Leonard for salary ballast) or nothing but cap relief in a year or two (no trade).
