Considering his NTC, they kinda have no options outside of "trying to please Carmelo". If not for that, I'm sure a deal with us would have already been done, for precisely the reasons you state.

I get that, but the reason I say they should care more about thier return is because they dont have to take the deal with Houston and Carmelo wants out. So if Melo wants out, he will actually have to cater to the knicks. Not vice versa.

I guess it depends on which camp wants it more. Does Melo want out more or do the knicks want him out more.
Ive had the vibe that he wants out more than the knicks want him out. Didnt he initiate the demand to be traded, vs knicks putting him out there for trade?

So I stand by my statement. The knicks should care more about their return than pleasing Melo. Even if they have to endure one more year of melo, that is not as good as getting young prospects and picks to build for the future, so I would think their return is more important than getting Melo out.

Carmelo was on the radar when Rox got CP3. I think he was part of the reason CP3 came over. Talks were probably under way with Phil and a deal structure in place. That is what the 2-yard line stuff was about. Phil got fired, Mills promoted, and Perry shyt-canned all that.

The recruit free agents was for PJ Tucker and Prince.

He did over pay for CP3, but with a deal with Phil close, he probably had an idea it would be OK.

CF probably does underestimate the draw of Portland.

I think the biggest draw for him now is playing with boaters, where ever it is. I'm pretty sure they are going to look for a team to all play together. Too much of a coincidence that all the contracts can end at the end of the season. That said, I think he opts out at the end of the season to go play with friends. So is giving up Harkless worth a one yr rental? If you know GSW still has the best shot by far.

I think the original plan may have been to try to steal Carmelo from the Knicks for a song next summer. At that time, Carmelo and Morey would have had all the leverage. He could have told the Knicks, either trade me to the Rockets immediately for whatever they are willing to give you, or I opt out and leave and you get nothing.

Also, next summer that 2020 first round pick would only be two years in the future, not three. So, that may make it look a little more appealing to the rebuilding Knicks than it does now.

But, the Knicks screwed that all up when they decided to go all in on rebuilding now and try to use Carmelo as an asset to accelerate that rebuild.

And that's the problem for HOU. They have NOTHING a rebuilding team wants. They certainly don't want older, injury prone players on long term contracts. Scott Perry has made it very clear that he knows negative value when he sees it and would rather hold onto Carmelo for another year than make a bad trade that sets back their rebuilding efforts.

Wasn't Melo already asking to be traded to Cle, then CP3 got traded to Hou and he opened up to Hou?

Where is the fiber damnit. The fiber.

Houston finished 14 games better than the Blazers, then added a future HOF PG, and somehow the Blazers are on par with them now? Why, because they jettisoned Crabbe?

Jeez MM, you're such a homer. Can't you take off your Rose-Garden-colored glasses for once and be realistic?
Blazers 14-6 with Nurkic including win over Houston with Nurk on broken leg.

Whatever any Blazer fan may hope for in this player, the truth is he controls where he wants to go and Portland will not be the place.

he has a no trade clause, but he controls shit, he has no leverage
he can say whatever he wants, but NYK can keep him if they want to

Carmelo aint opting out, and it will be what NYK wants

it's plausible they do not want EG/Ariza. I get it. I never said it would be a 2 team deal. Someone says the Rox do not have anything the knicks want. I said the rox have stuff, but won't trade it.
Which leaves the 3rd team as the most probable if the Rox get melo.

2 1st, Ariza, AND Gordon is to expensive. I'm sure of that. I am not good with hypothetical trades, because I do not know other teams players that well. So I am not going to propose one. I could use trade machine to make the money right, but player value would be off. A 3 by any other name is not a 3.

I agree Portland has better trade assests. Easy to say. The catch for portland is the NTC. Melo is in the twlight of his career. If he is hoping to go to Houston, which he has stated, why would he say he would except a portland deal to blazers and sabatoge the negotiations? Your response will probable be either
"He wants to go to Portland" or "He doesn't want to go to Houston?" Then why not just open up the NTC now and go? why fiddle with Houston any more?

Does he have time to play in portland while the team gets better around him?
You argued Hou has 2 of the greatest all-time chokers and a choker of a coach. You might even argue Melo is a choker for rarely making the playoffs, (not olympic melo). That said, Rox with Melo have a better chance of beating GSW than Portland with Melo.

I have to disagree here with the bolded.
Rockets have shown to have nothing for GSW. Har_en has been less than.
Some Rocket fans argue it's because the NBA doesn't want anyone to dethrone the media darling Warriors.
Or that the NBA has it out for the Rockets and is purposely blocking the trade.(both things I saw on CF forums by multiple posters before I got ip banned)
Where Lillard & CJ for two years running have shown that with basically no offensive talent around them. They can at the very least be competitive.
I don't think adding Melo to either squad gives you a better chance at knocking off the Warriors. Frankly Melo doesn't even push it to 6 games.
Both Blazers and Rockets would be eliminated at most in 5 with Melo.

You be the best you can be. Injuries can happen at any time. The better your team is, the better chance you have, and luck, injuries, etc, just might swing your way. If we're going to hand a championship trophy out based on rosters, why play the game?
True. Warriors only have 2 titles because of injuries.

"Injuries", or "Draymond Green being an unsportsmanlike clown poseur". Happily for the league, you can count on one of those being repeated every year.

I don't like to kick people in the balls (intentionally), cuz that's messed up, but I love watching videos of dudes catching heat in the junk.

You must have been a big America's Funniest Home Videos fan back in the day. It seemed like about 75% of their submissions was dad taking one in the nads, either a football, wiffle ball bat, pinata stick, etc. If not for nut shots that show would have never existed.
