IF...'Melo agreed to come here for the minimum (since he would still be getting paid $27M from OKC), could the Blazers release Turner and save money against the Lux Tax like OKC is doing?

Sure, they could but it would be stupid of the Blazers to stretch Turner. They wouldn't be anywhere close to the same tax OKC has. Turner would be stretched at $36 million instead of $27 million, meaning we'd have a $7.2 million dead cap for just Turner over the next 5 years, which is way too much and would end up costing us money in the long run because we'd likely get taxed on that number over the next two seasons anyway.

Besides, why would Melo sign with us instead of the Lakers or Rockets?

I feel like the like what we will see is the Blazers trade where they get less players then they give up (clear at least one roster spot), I keep hoping they could figure out how to get butler, Kawhi, KAT without having to really mess up the core.

They'd also have to throw in a bunch of picks to get someone to take on that 28 mil, cuz ain't no way they're taking salary back. Prolly easier just to take the $ hit and buy him out themselves.

Yeah, I imagine that's what they'll end up doing. Though, I suppose makes sense to explore some trade possibilities, if someone else was wanting out of a longer deal, but that guy could maybe help OKC this year a little?

I'd take him as our starting SF for next season in a heartbeat.

So, we can't afford Melo?

Darn

When does Neil jump in?
I think we should be looking at a way to get in as a 3rd team in a deal, with our TPE.

An example of how they can look to trade him, and why it might make sense, let's say a team like Chicago, they can trade Felicio and cap space for him. (I think they have the space this year). They can buyout Melo, NOT stretch him, and basically wipe Felicio's remaining 2 seasons off of their books.
For OKC, the 3 years remaining on Felicio's deal would be less than the stretch amount, so they ultimately save themselves a bit of $$ on it.

Word is they are going to stretch him, but are doing due diligence first.

They gave up quite a few pieces to get George and Anthony last summer. Their roster is ridiculously thin. I would think they need to get something back to help bolster their team a bit. Turner can start for them, and Meyers is...... a warm body. He can't be worse than Kyle Singler.

3 way with Charlotte,

We take MKG withh our TPE, Charlotte trades Marvin Williams and MKG for Carmelo, OKC trades Carmelo for Marvin Williams. OKC shaves 13 million dollars off of Carmelo. They take on one extra year, unless Williams opts out, but, they gain a productive PF who can stretch defenses. Charlotte buys out Carmelo, maybe save a million or two this offseason, and then get out of next year's deals for Williams and MKG, when Kemba will be a free agent. We take a flyer on MKG, who I know many are down on, because well, he can't shoot. No idea why I've always been intrigued by him, but we try him out as a reclamation project, perhaps.
