I listened to that entire interview, which is great BTW, and while they have the quote correct, I think that they misinterpreted what Melo was saying. Earlier in the interview he was asked about the playoffs and whether the Blazers were completely healthy now with Zach and Nurk back. Melo said yes and, that while it's an uphill battle, the team is looking forward to playing and maybe being able to do something really special in the playoffs. I think that other quote, which came towards the end, was just him saying that they haven't heard all of the details yet and the players want to know what they're getting into before signing on completely.

I bet Melo is cool with not returning to finish the season. He proved what he needed to the rest of the league. He did enough to prove he still can help a contending team next season.
