Gordon + Ariza make the same as Anderson. While this trade, as listed doesn't work, making it work would be a piece of cake:

HOU just needs to send out an additional $688K and they have something like 8 guys making the league min of $1.3 million, six of them on non-guaranteed contracts. Give BRK their pick of any one, or two of those guys and it works under the CBA.

It gives HOU what they want (Carmelo), gives NYK what they want (Melo gone + Harkless), gives us three solid players in return, including Ariza who replaces Harkless in the starting line up, and lets us dump two of our three worst contracts. And even BRK FINALLY gets their SG after multipple failed attempts to land one as an RFA via an offer sheet.

Sprinkle in a few future draft picks here and there and get it done.

Won't work if this quote from Woj was true (and it probably is):

The fourth team was needed to move a particular player contract that neither the Knicks nor Rockets could or would accept in the deal, league sources said.

That player is probably Turner.

OY!!!

Somebody does Monty wrong, I might go looking for them....

Kind agree. But I can't remember if it was Gordon or Landry or both who quit on him.
I just remember hearing rumors they believed one of those two was healthy, yet refusing to play.

Speculation is that unwanted player could have been Anderson, or perhaps Meyers Leonard. Not sure why you think it's Turner. I proposed the trade I did specifically such that Anderson stays in HOU and Leonard stays in POR. Turner actually seems to play better in the East. If HOU unloads Ariza and Gordon instead of Anderson, they can play Anderson at the 4 and Anthony at the 3 (somewhat appeasing Mike D'Antoni).

I think I'd rather have Trevor Booker instead of as Portland.

Do you think HOU says no to a Carmelo deal because they refuse to move Trevor Ariza, who is in the last year of his contract anyway?

If he REALLY wants to play with Melo and CP3 that badly, he can always sign a vet min contract with HOU next summer when both Carmelo and CP3 will also be re-signing there.

Neil would win Exec of the Year for that trade: $47 mil out, $32 in!

Actually if you read the quote, it says neither Houston nor NYK could or would take this contract. The keyword is could. It can't be someone from New York or Houston, so presumably it is coming from the third team.

It's either Leonard or Turner. I find it hard to believe it's Leonard, he makes less than Turner and plays a position that aren't going to devote to someone else. It also makes the deal work.

In place of Jeremy Lin? Do we really need another back up PF more than we need a back up PG?

In any case, Booker in place of Lin also works with the same caveat about HOU sending one of their many non-guaranteed $1.3 million contracts back to BRK.

I think he'd be starting. Not a bad player to go against in practice either.

If Lee/O'Quinn were coming in and Harkless/Leonard were going out, how would you feel?

Presumably Turner would also be going out right? Melo/Lee/O'Quinn make over 40 million and Harkless/Leonard only make 20 million.

I'd find it hilarious if Houston ended up moving Ariza and Gordon to get Anthony. They'd actually be making their team worse overall.

I understand the attraction of Melo (or Wade) in a buy-out situation, where perhaps they join you for the minimum. Not if you have to give up actual, important pieces of your team.

Same team that gave Josh Smith the green light to jack 10 threes a game.

Don't like that at all. We don't move any of our bad contracts and move three of our best value contracts instead - two that are expiring.

BNM

We can't get rid of the bad ones (at least not in this deal) gotta try to consolidate a few of our decent ones for a good one for Gordon is my thinking maybe move crabbe in a deal for booker in BKN now that theyve run out of mediocre players to overpay.

All I got to say they got everyone guessing who that 4th team is and who knows maybe we are not one of the teams at all. The only 2 team for certain is NY and Houston.

The best part of this trade:

and the real reason I proposed it, is that it would block @BigGameDamian from every playing the "Portland only wants to develop young players" card ever again!
