Now here's the twist to this story that catches my attention:

What would the deal need to be for a 3-teamer sending 'Melo to Cleveland and Love to Portland to make sense for all teams involved?

I would get behind that trade!
You know that would require one or two of our first-round picks as well, though. Does that sour you on the idea?

Please explain this notion. Simply saying it doesn't make it true.
For one thing, and this is strictly opinion, I believe his ego couldn't handle being third fiddle to an already established core. To me, that smells like trouble from the jump. Also, he isn't a proven winner and a ball hog. He will suck the positive energy out of this team faster than Nurkic put it in

What's worse than Melo to Portland? Kevin Love to Portland. Sure these guys are an upgrade to what we have (offensively) but they are nothing like a long term answer, especially considering their defense, cost, and age.

Paul George. That's the answer.

Well you know what they say about opinions...

I try not to use conjecture to form mine.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on some of this - trading for Carmelo would definitely be a gamble. As I attempted to illustrate in previous posts, I'm not sure that he'd make our team better despite being an offensive upgrade over Vonleh. The only way I'm interested in this gamble is if we're able to shed Tuner AND/OR Crabbe, plus at least one of (but preferably both) Meyers/Aminu and only include ONE pick. Failing that, I'm not interested.

But I'm curious how you define "proven winner". He won an NCAA championship and a gold medal in the Olympics. If he's not a proven winner, then our roster is full of losers.

I guess thats how you use that word. Anyways...

Ok so take my 'speculation' about him wanting to be the man out of the equation. Still a ball hog. Still not a proven winner. Still a bad attitude. Sure, bring him on.

So what I meant was...
He has been out of the first round twice. In 13 years. At the pro level, his success is mediocre at best. If I bring in a vet, I want more playoff experience than what we already have.

I'm sorry, did fans of a franchise who spent half a decade slurping LMA's peccadilloes (like shooting 80% of his shots from a place where he was lower than that 43% posted above for Melo?) really ask how an offense-first volume shooter (who happens to be a HoFer and multiple Gold Medalist) can help our team for the price of what we spent on Luke Babbitt and two of our bigger FA overpays from last summer?

Personally, I don't think he'd waive the no - trade to come here (as someone who has lived turning down job offers b/c of wife-mandated geography, I understand), but if he did, I don't think there's an issue with buy-in. He has to understand and respect Dame/CJ/Nurk (if nothing other than reboudning and D). He's not having to give shots up to Jeremy Lin, for goodness' sakes. I think the Dirk comparisons above are pretty astute, except that Melo (who's a worse shooter, duh) would be getting much more open looks than Dirk did in 2011. Melo, when he cares about D, has absolutely shown he can play it. You saw what KD was able to do to up his game on the D end this year, and to a lesser extent CJ.

Melo for (Crabbe or Turner)/Leonard/#15? I'm by no means the biggest Melo fan, but dude has talent, and if he'd come here (especially for that package)

You telling me that Melo and Lillard would play worse D than 3x-in-a-row NBA Finalists Kyrie and K-love? GTFOH. I agree with BNM and others that getting George as well would be a damn coup, but I don't think it's a requirement to play well. Maybe a requirement to get Melo to waive the no-trade...

So what did you think of Aldridge before he became a Spur?

I thought that he had the potential to be the best PF in the game when he wasn't whining about not being the guy. He was soft, his defense was ok at best and his inside game was never as consistent as it needed to be. I dont miss him.

If the cost is Crabbe/Leonard/15, the age is 28, and the defense is better than that of the players we'd be giving up, how could defense, cost and age be arguments against trading for Love? If it makes us better, which it would, then it's worth a look.

I actually would have picked Carmelo first ahead of James in that draft. He was an amazing, proven winner and leader in college. Not sure why that didn't translate. If I could get that college Carmelo back I would certainly take him. If he does end up in Portland maybe it will be his chance at redemption.

You just never know about 18-19 year olds. I mean you can often see if they will be good, but not whether or not they have that extra competitive fire to be the best like LeBron, Michael, Magic, Kobe and Bird all had. Some players are consumed with it on a daily basis and those are the players you want. Not saying you can't have other hobbies in the off season, but these guys are all known for their off season work in getting better each year. Melo might have peaked a little early. Nonetheless he was still unstoppable with Denver.

The Cavs might trade Love, but would they be willing to go with Melo in his place (contract-wise)?

I'd think the Cavs might get PG or Jimmy Butler in a deal for Love - two guys I'd much rather have at this point.

I can see the Pacers pulling the trigger on that as they have nothing to lose after next season, but I can't see the Bulls helping Cleveland like that when they don't really have to trade JB.
