Attaboy, Coat.OK, I called Neil and told him to call this off. Melo is too old and too expensive to give up our picks for.
He agreed.
Now here's the twist to this story that catches my attention:
What would the deal need to be for a 3-teamer sending 'Melo to Cleveland and Love to Portland to make sense for all teams involved?

Shorthand answer - NO THANK YOU! Melo is waaaaay to toxic for our locker room. Not to mention we dont need a volume shooter like Melo.
You know that would require one or two of our first-round picks as well, though. Does that sour you on the idea?I would get behind that trade!

One I would do, two would be unpalatable. You know that would require one or two of our first-round picks as well, though. Does that sour you on the idea?
For one thing, and this is strictly opinion, I believe his ego couldn't handle being third fiddle to an already established core. To me, that smells like trouble from the jump. Also, he isn't a proven winner and a ball hog. He will suck the positive energy out of this team faster than Nurkic put it inPlease explain this notion. Simply saying it doesn't make it true.
He is. Unfortunately, the question is, "Who will Kevin Pritchard never, ever trade to Portland?"Paul George. That's the answer.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on some of this - trading for Carmelo would definitely be a gamble. As I attempted to illustrate in previous posts, I'm not sure that he'd make our team better despite being an offensive upgrade over Vonleh. The only way I'm interested in this gamble is if we're able to shed Tuner AND/OR Crabbe, plus at least one of (but preferably both) Meyers/Aminu and only include ONE pick. Failing that, I'm not interested. For one thing, and this is strictly opinion, I believe his ego couldn't handle being third fiddle to an already established core. But I'm curious how you define "proven winner". He won an NCAA championship and a gold medal in the Olympics. If he's not a proven winner, then our roster is full of losers.
Melo is old!!PG13 isn't a proven winner either.
So what did you think of Aldridge before he became a Spur?So what I meant was...
He has been out of the first round twice. In 13 years. At the pro level, his success is mediocre at best. If I bring in a vet, I want more playoff experience than what we already have.
If the cost is Crabbe/Leonard/15, the age is 28, and the defense is better than that of the players we'd be giving up, how could defense, cost and age be arguments against trading for Love? If it makes us better, which it would, then it's worth a look. What's worse than Melo to Portland? Kevin Love to Portland. Sure these guys are an upgrade to what we have (offensively) but they are nothing like a long term answer, especially considering their defense, cost, and age.
I actually would have picked Carmelo first ahead of James in that draft. He was an amazing, proven winner and leader in college. Not sure why that didn't translate. If I could get that college Carmelo back I would certainly take him. If he does end up in Portland maybe it will be his chance at redemption.
Isn't it wise to build from the draft though? Slow & steady, or is that just for small market teams?
The Cavs might trade Love, but would they be willing to go with Melo in his place (contract-wise)?
I'd think the Cavs might get PG or Jimmy Butler in a deal for Love - two guys I'd much rather have at this point.
