I am half positive and half negative with this Melo to Portland thing. We never land these deals so who is to say we get this one. However I do think we have the most to offer and pieces New york actually wants. Is it worth it to give up Moe and whoever else for a rental possibly?

I hate to lose Harkless, but it would probably get us out of at least one $70m contract, not to mention maybe getting rid of someone like Meyers.

I am on the Knicks subreddit and their fans are pretty nice about Portland and think obviously we have the best peices to trade with them. Some notable quotes...

"If Melo really wants to win, I wouldn't rule it Portland. All it takes is an injury to Steph or KD and suddenly the Warriors aren't this unbeatable team. Dame/CJ/Nurkic was actually really good over the last half of the season, add in Melo and that could easily be a top 4 seed if things go right"

"you know, I really don't get the whole contention thing. the likelihood of either the cavs or houston + melo fucking with the dubs next year is sort of pie in the sky imo. like, I wouldn't even give them a puncher's chance. portland is the best city of the three, it just doesn't have his buds. but mccollum seems like a cool dude. come on melo, branch out a bit, everyone could stand to extend his circle of friends every now and again."

"I'm sure it's unlikely, but Melo waiving his NTC for Portland gives us the best shot at a favorable deal"

"I hope he waives his NTC for the Blazers that would give the Knicks the best return"

"a deal with POR straight up would be so much easier than HOU. even though I'm not a big fan of either HArkless or Crabbe."

"From all accounts I read, Melo isn't really into the whole celebrity thing--that was more LaLa's thing. I think he'd be cool with chilling in Portland."

"I don't like this. If Melo goes to Portland I will have a hard time hating him. He is supposed to be the spiteful asshole who is holding an organization hostage so he can join a super team where he can undermine a coach he had already run out of town in a previous stint. He's not supposed to go to an underdog team in a quirky, quasi-small market that's actually a good fit for him and has something of value to return to us."

"CJ and Dame are so likeable that I actually want to see him go to Portland, it would be easy to cheer for them"

"I too as a lover of the New York Knicks association would love for Carmelo to go to Portland"

"Dame is trying to fuck over the Rockets for the second time in his career. Speak it into existence."

"hopefully this works. portland has better trade assets than houston"

"Also lowkey my favorite team in the west."

"For me they took over as favorites from the Mark Jackson era Warriors. A scrappy, young team with an all star backcourt and a fantastic fanbase."

"Even though I doubt this happens I would love for Melo to go to Portland. I've always liked Dame and CJ and if Melo joined them then I'd have 3 players to root for on that team. That team would feast on offense, defense is another story though."

"Good move by Portland. They'll no doubt trade some 3 year contracts for Melo, and know that either he comes off the books a year earlier than other contracts, or he opts out and it was a 1 year rental.
They aren't going anywhere with Harkless, Leonard or Turner so if they can move any of them for a contract with one less year it means they'll be in a better financial position overall.
Now, if only Melo could open up the option to Portland."

"Knicks get:

1) Rid of the Noah contract.

2) A 25 year old three-point shooter (Crabbe) that's logged substantial minutes at the SF position (i.e. could conceivably start next to THJ and KP). Also locked up for 3 years at a reasonable rate.

3) Ed Davis' expiring deal.

4) Noah Vonleh, who is on an expiring rookie deal and was a lottery talent.

5) Presumably, Portland would also add at least one 1st round pick, and likely 1+ 2nd round picks as well.

Is that enough? Can't really see what Houston can do to best that."

Rocket fans on Reddit are literally cancer.

Last year I was torn about who to hate more, the Rockets or the Clippers. This year, my choice is obvious.

Want irony? I think we're better than the Rockets whether they get Melo or not, and you know why? They have no answer for Nurkic, you know, the guy you'd think doesn't even exist in talking a rocket fan.

You think they'd remember the guy that dropped 19/11 on them.... That spin move on Nene is engraved in my mind

This is exactly why they don't remember. They're trying to block such a painful memory from their tiny brains.

They may end up being just another typical D'Antoni team - great regular season record, poor playoff performance. If even that. It's not like D'Antoni and Melo set the world on fire the last time they teamed up.

Great post. So we're taking on Joakim Noah? I'm fine with that. Will he play? Also- apparently Crabbe's contract is reasonable? Losing Vonleh opens up minutes for Swanigan.

Thanks for posting all of that. Very interesting insights into another fan base. Knick fans have always been passionate about their team, but I'm surprised they are so calm, rational and not bitter after all the disastrous years Dolan has put them through. They basically seem like the exact opposite of the clutchfans cucks.

I have not seen this full quote from Lillard on this epic thread:

“He’s Carmelo Anthony,’’ Lillard said. “You add another guy who can score 50. Over the last decade, he’s been one of best players in the league. Playing against him he’s a cerebral player. He’s smart. He played in the triangle. I can only imagine what it would be like to have him isolating on one side, and CJ in the corner, and me in opposite wing and Nurk on the opposite … I could only imagine how tough it would be to guard us.’’

Thanks much here too! Got a link for the forum?

Seems to me someone is lying with regards to the Dame/CJ comments about Melo being interested (possibly). Either Melo is lying to them about his actual interest here, or Dame and CJ are lying to the media just to make it seem like Portland has a punchers chance or the Knicks are lying about really wanting some of our players. Otherwise if all that were true, seems to me like a deal would have been done pretty much now. Either way Im not too fussed about getting Melo.

If you watch the video, it's clear that the media made the comments into more than they were.

You are probably right. Media loves spinning anything can to make it newsworthy. With that said, Im sure we can all agree Melo will opt to not want to come to PDX.

The tricky thing about this situation is Cleveland and Houston have nothing the knicks want and pieces Houston would be dumb to part with. We do have pieces. To me it seems he either stays in New York or comes to Portland. Who knows though maybe morey fucks houston even more and goes for the hail mary.

It's because there's video of it. lol.

The only pieces that Houston really has is Ariza/Gordon/Capela.

If they trade those pieces, they have zero bench. That team would be too old and not really talented enough to win anything, and Houston knows it. That's why they need us.

God it feels so good to see Houston bitch at us, then need us.

As they say... Get. Fucking. Rekt.

And here's the other thing, Gordon and Ariza are worthless to NY, so they would need to trade those players to another team. And maybe that's what Neil is aiming for? I don't know.

I'm hoping New York hardball's Carmelo. I could see New York and Olshey having agreed to a trade package today. New York needs to give Carmelo two choices, those being go to Portland and contend, or stay in New York and play less while they develop younger players. I think New York would do this because they want Harkless, and this would be a way of pushing him to waive his NTC for Portland.

I think this is what is occurring; they
Defensively that would be a layup drill though. I would NOT start Crabbe in that lineup.

Gonna get worked defensively no matter who we put as the 5th person in that lineup, in my opinion, it's more about how offensively gifted that lineup would be (and fun to watch.)

Or any lineup...

Crabbe's already way too passive. I can't see him getting many shots with Dame, C.J., Melo and Nurk on the floor. And if Crabbe ain't shooting, he's useless.

I think starting either of Vonleh or Swanigan at the 4 next to Melo at the 3 makes more sense. Vonleh gives us solid defense and rebounding. Swanigan gives us rebounding, good passing and the ability to make an open shot.

BNM

Crabbe, even if he isn't shooting, will still be guarded on the perimeter because he shot 44% from 3 last season, so the defense won't help off of him, giving Dame/CJ/Melo/Nurk all more room to operate. You also cannot cheat off of Dame, CJ, Melo for obvious reasons, and Nurk is in the post. That is a LOT of spacing. And if they did cheat off of Crabbe, I'm sure he would actually shoot - given that the one time he does shoot is when he is wide open. Also, Crabbe + Nurk played pretty well together...

Swanigan is closest, in my opinion, to making me change that opinion. I'm not sold on Vonleh much more than I am Meyers. And I'd rather have shooting than Vonleh. Vonleh doesn't make the game easier for everyone on offense or defense... where he still struggles. He is like a slightly smarter BBIQ wise Meyers..too much thinking
