Why is Houston better? Lillard and CJ are MAYBE a slightly worse version of CP and Harden. Paul is the only one of the 4 that plays defense. No one on their roster is Nurk, and I'd argue we MIGHT be a tad deeper.
Houston finished 14 games better than the Blazers, then added a future HOF PG, and somehow the Blazers are on par with them now? Why, because they jettisoned Crabbe?

Jeez MM, you're such a homer. Can't you take off your Rose-Garden-colored glasses for once and be realistic?

Agreed....I just don't see that happening and he isn't likely to expand his no trade clause to many other teams that have the young pieces to do any better. Ironically, the possibility here for POR is they
I agree with you, but for a different reason. I just think Hardin and CP3 are completely different types of players than Dame and CJ. I think at times we need an offensive wing like Melo to run the offense through and I am not sure Houston really does.

And I think that CJ and Dame will complement him more via spreading the floor than Cp3 would. Even though CP3 can shoot from deep-he just doesn't like to stand out there. I just don't think Melo fits with Paul. The types of players who do are the ones who are constantly in motion like JJ Reddick or players who he can find on the run or at the rim. Not Melo's forte'.
The idea in Houston is for Melo to play Anderson's spot. He had a ton of spot up 3 attempts last yr. Perfect for Olympic Melo.

There is talk about bring back a mid-range game too. Let CP be CP. Don't fix what is not broken.

Record means little considering most of it was done with Plumlee. With Nurkic this is a 50+ win team imo. Nurkic is a game changer. He shitted on Houston with a broken leg. Chris Paul and James Harden aren't so much better than Dame and CJ that it negates Nurkic.

Btw it's funny how Rockets fans always conveniently leave Nurkic' name out when comparing the two teams. He's arguably our MVP.

They have very little in terms of players but so far, have refused to include future 1st round picks which they do have.
Kind of. They don't have their 2018 1st rounder (unless in Top 3, which is unlikely). As they do not have an addition pick in 2019, and they can't trade picks in consecutive years, they have to trade their 2020 pick, which I am sure they are loathe to do. To give multiple 1st rounders, they'd have to pick their 2020 and 2022 pick. Since it's very possible Houston will be terrible in 2022, it is extremely likely they'd give that up, especially since it doesn't have that much value.

Another reason why I think Melo won't help Houston. If they use him like that, then they are better off with Anderson.

Which team in the league wants to trade young assets for Ryan Anderson?
I dont know, Im just saying there will always be stupid moves around the league, whether its about trade, contracts, draft, coaches etc

I always liked Kenny Anderson, he always seems to say nice things about Portland. Also, I forgot that he was a free agent that the team signed.

I wonder how the team would've fared with him as the PG instead of Damon.

Since they already traded their 2018 pick to LAC in the Chris Paul trade, the earliest first round picks HOU can trade to the Knicks are their 2020 and 2022 due to the Ted Stepien rule.

POR can offer their 2018 and 2020 picks. Advantage Portland (by four years, which is a huge difference for a rebuilding team like NYK).

BNM

Better, IMO

no agreement imminent.

Talked to Mags on the phone yesterday, he's excited about Melo but he calls him Me Low instead of Mellow.

He also called Nurkic, Burkski.

I miss Mags.

So all this recent chatter brought on a few phone calls of inquiry. Here is a brief summary:

'Melo won't be back in NY so it's up to him to figure out where he is willing to go. HOU is such a long-shot at this point because they just don't have the pieces that NY wants. There are a couple of other teams interested but POR would seem to be able to put together the best package that would still leave the core in tact and not gut it just to make the exchange thereby making the team a contender.

When Carmello and his camp finally come to the realization that HOU isn't going to happen, things could happen quite quickly. POR doesn't get much of a chance nationally but they (IMO) have the best shot to put together a deal once HOU being out of the picture becomes a reality.

How is that not a reality yet to Melos camp?

good god, we never had a chance, did we...

Well, it was pretty obvious that Team Melo was trying to use the threat of accepting a trade to the Blazers in order to leverage the Rockets to up the ante.
