Seems like an automatic lottery birth is for the lakers to sign a superstar free agent. It seems to be the kiss of death for them lately. First Gary Payton and Karl Malone, then Steve Nash and now LeBron James is going to miss the playoffs after several years of being in the playoffs and winning championships elsewhere.

Miss the playoffs? The Gary Payton and Karl Malone team went to the NBA Finals. Lakers made playoffs in the Nash year too though Nash was hurt. That was the last year Lakers went to playoffs.
