Politics The Texas GOP convention

As a sovereign country, Texas would be the 10th largest economy in the world by GDP, ahead of South Korea and Canada and behind Brazil.

Sure, but they would be run by Republicans, so my point still stands, they would be F'd. Instead of governing they would be too busy doing political stunts instead of actually running their country. During their next winter shut down crisis there would be no FEMA to ride to the rescue like last time.

I wouldn't wait for Texas to break off from the republic....while it's still American soil I think we should cash in and sell it to Mexico ..then not allow work visas for them to travel in the US legally. Why let it leave for nothing like Lamarcus did to the Blazers? We could get a lot for it right now
God it’d be great if Texas breaks off and then we build the wall between texas and the rest of us. Just have to make sure that border is secure

Tennessee actually volunteered to help these guys?!

Texas gets $1.2 for every $1 in federal tax it pays, so once they secede their GDP probably will fall a little to about #15 in the world, behind Australia and Spain but above Mexico (the irony).

Or to save them when the next big hurricane strikes.

Texas GOP Declares Biden Illegitimate, Demands End to Abortion

Texas Republicans acted on multiple resolutions and platform changes at their state convention this weekend—including declaring that President Joe Biden was "not legitimately elected" and demanding an end to abortion.

The Texas GOP's convention in Houston reinforced how many remain fixated on former president Donald Trump's baseless claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election—even after the House panel investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol presented evidence that those claims were false and showed testimony from Trump's closest advisers saying they did not believe them during televised hearings.

Earlier this week, the party's Permanent 2022 Platform & Resolutions Committee advanced a resolution claiming the 2020 election had violated the Constitution.

"We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States," the resolution says.

Can anyone be more stupid?

The GOP in 2022. I would love it if it happened btw, dems would never lose another presidential election lol

we could even sponsor the immigration of people who want to leave and live there.

Probably the US needs to either split into 3 countries, or we need to get rid of states altogether. Call it United America. Yeah, never will happen but it's time.

We should break up into west coast, middle states, southern, and northern east coast.

I'd lump southern and midwestern into the same bucket (Inbredistan). But I wouldn't care if they wanted to be two countries either.

Thing is, what starts as wild ass out there notions, like abortion bounty hunters and election deniers, pretty soon becomes mainstream Republican.

I mean, sedition and homophobia ARE an official part of the Texas GOP platform, so you aren't wrong.

Boycott Texas and Florida....don't spend your vacation dollars there....my lobby against their good ole boy fake laws.
My girlfriend and I will be moving from Florida when she is done with college. It sucks, because Florida is actually a beautiful place and has great diversity. Just run by fascists.

What is going to be her degree?

My uncle lived in the Keys from the early 60s until he passed away sometime in the 90s....I thought it was beautiful but I was a little kid...I have zero drive to travel east since I've been an adult...I like the Hilo Hawaii or Oregonian vibes I have many friends who winter there though.

Understandable. I am 39 and have spent 35 of my years in Oregon. I love the place and always will. But, my brain can only do the same thing for so long before I have to reinvent myself. Who knows what the next iteration may be? Not I. Right now, just enjoying myself somewhere warm and getting creative whenever I feel the expanding spark. There is some real natural beauty in Florida though. Just gets lost in the conversation.
