I'm wondering how trading away LMA for Monroe and some scrubs makes the team better next year. :dunno:

I found it interesting to see that a guy who is at around 10 per (Singler) was considered a good player.

Tell me about it. Monroe an allstar? Maybe he changed his name or something

He's a good player, but in terms of what he can actually do on the court, he's not LMA. If he's the best player the Blazers get back in a trade along with some scrubs, well, that's a dumb idea to me.

I like Monroe, But if you are giving up arguably a top 5 NBA PF, you should get more back.

How about 6 years of youth and $10M in cap space? What would you want, a pick too?

5 years of youth and a lesser player. How does losing a team's best player for an unproven guy who plays a different position make the team better next season? That's the purpose of this thread, right?

According to PER and usage rate, is Monroe really a lesser player? You get cap room and depth as well.

Yes and some. Monroe will never be as good as Aldridge. We get pissed at the d we lack; just wait when these scraps come to pdx. There is a reason that Detroit are a bottom feeder with their talent.

and I'm not sure 10 million in capspace helps Portland as much as others do.

Not that the player on the Pistons is a bum, far from it, but it's not necessarily the best they could do.

Well hickson has a better per than batum. Shall we trade batum too? Lets get the other Lopez for batum cause Lopez has a better per

According to coaches and players around the league, LMA is an All-Star, and should have been one 3 years in a row now.

Based on PER, Hickson is a better player than Kevin Love.

What does cap room do this summer? Who exactly do you bring in as a FA who is going to be a 20/9 player who is the #1 focus of the opposing defense?

Thomas Robinson? Haha

I talked about a Monroe for Aldridge swap in a thread earlier and got a similar response but it's still a close to realistic trade scenario that I think benefits us with getting close talent and a big chunk of extra space this offseason. Advanced stats have them very close, PER, WS, O and D Rating, they're obviously very different players in terms of style and what areas of the game they impact but a deal that's realistic in terms of talent that could open up a bunch of cap room is very far from 'The worst trade proposal ever' or just about one posters dislike for a certain player.

The scenario I see making us an obviously better team next year and going forward is a mid season trade of:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=accmxpq

Offseason let Hickson walk and renounce all the scrubs (Nolan, Price, Babbitt, Maggette etc), leaving us with ~25mil for cap space. Sign Millsap to a 4 year ~45mil deal starting at about 10.5mil. Then address the bench with Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry for deals around 3 years 19mil each starting close to 7mil and decending to give them a little more than the MLE for more incentive to sign away from GSW.

Lillard/Wes/Batum/Millsap/Monroe with a Jack/Singler/Landry/Leonard bench imho puts us in a better position next year than keeping Aldridge and trying to fill our needs at starting center and off the bench with only ~13 million in cap space.

Yes we should trade Batum for Lopez, that would be amazing. Too bad we'd be laughed off the phone.

Aldridge for Monroe would be great too. Almost identical stats, Monroe's a way better defender, and is 5 years younger. Not a hard decision for me at all.

I think there are 30 NBA coaches(including Monroe's) that would rather have LA as their starting PF instead if Monroe my friend.

I'll go a step further and would say that if the Pistons hired Monroe as a player/coach....... Monroe would start LA as well!

And I think there are 30 NBA coaches and GMs who would rather have Monroe at C than LMA. We wouldn't be trading for Monroe to play him at PF.
One of our two biggest weaknesses is C - this trade would address that and then some.

That singer who used to be one of the Dukes of Hazard boys has close relatives there. He did some kind of benefit there not too long ago. Not that I'm impressed, but, it's a slow Blazers day.
Tom Wopat's brother is a long-time doctor in town. There have been a few Tom sightings over the years, my favorite is from a neighbor of Dr. Wopat who claims she saw Tom about three years after DOH was cancelled. He was shirtless, mowing the lawn, and she couldn't stop giggling about his beer belly. I can't talk to her anymore, since my belly sends her into apoplexy...

One player I think the Blazers should target for the bench is Corey Brewer. We need an athletic wing who will play some defense and penetrate.

If we do decide to spend on a bench, I wouldn't mind Brewer, Barnes, Tony Allen, Dahntay Jones, Deshawn Stevenson etc.... someone who can play great D and do some other things

I think Aaron Brooks would be a nice signing as well. If we could get Hickson, Brewer and Brooks we'd have a pretty good bench. Too bad we have that bum, Joel Freeland, on the books for 3 mil next year.

We would have two of the leagues worst defenders on our bench in Hickson and Brooks

Why don't we just give Andrew Bynum a max contract, there is now way that could ever come back to haunt us!!!
