The Zumwalt Class Destroyer. Orders for this design were cut from 30 ships to 3. The third and last of this design will be the USS Lyndon B. Johnson.

Funny how that happens, some rate a Carrier and some rate a canceled under performing Destroyer

This design looks terrible but damn, think about riding it! Even in a moderate sea the waves are going to washing over this thing like it was a half sunk reef or a surfaced submarine. A sub can get the hell out of harms way though, it can dive. This one isn't designed to dive even though it looks as though it might.
The USS Johnson seems very appropriate

Yeah, but try to see it with surface-based RADAR...

Yep, it is better than the Burke class, but still not totally undetectable. The damn thing rolls and then it will bounce back from
stuff on deck. The tumble home is there to reduce the radiated reflection but that also reduces the resistance to roll the flat deck
into the game.

My Naval Architect gut tells me invisible warship are under the sea, surface warship are made to stay on top and intimidate the shit out of anyone looking.

I would think an undetectable sub to all forms of sonar would be near impossible.

Well the guy doing the pinging is the most locatable. Guys listening are pretty hard to find but then that becomes who has the best ears. I know it is really hard to have a steel ship not focus
the earths magnetic field in an undetectable way so I suspect we will see or hear of some really pricey Austenitic, non magnetic boats someday. Cheap to maintain though, won't even need paint. just electrically zap the barnacles of the boat once in awhile and carry on.

Insane waste of taxpayers $.

Our military budget should be maybe 1/100th of what it has ballooned to.

That would surely eliminate the deficit in short order if everything of lessor priority were also
eliminated. I have to wonder though how long it would be before we would be paying
taxes to a new collector.

Currently that tax collector is China. Any newbie would have to defeat China to get at us. We're protected.
