I always wondered why police don't just use tranquilizer darts to subdue violent suspects. If a Bengali tiger escapes from the zoo they're going to knock him out before they are faced with killing him.
The biggest problem with a tranquilizer dart is they take too long to take affect. They are not a good option in police situations against a human with a weapon. They seldom take less than 3 minutes and sometimes as long as 10 minutes. Size and weight of the person plays a part in the time, which makes pre-loading accurate dosages a problem. A strong fast dose used on a small grownup could be fatal.
