Crazy times over there. Is there really a chance for democracy? What a game-changer that would be!

What are you smoking today, and did you bring enough for the rest of us?

No.

No chance whatsoever.

OK, my apologies yet again for my bad attempt at tongue-in-cheek, but it's still very interesting to me what's going on over there. That all said, there are many in here who might equate their unrest with what's happening in deep far left camps in our own country. In other words, just a proverbial blip in the screen.

Carry on.

China will crush them all. They just don't want to be filmed doing it.

Let's hope not, since the end result in Hong Kong is kind of likely to be significant loss of life.

No. No democracy there. Many people will die fighting for it though

I don't think they care if anyone sees. In fact they want people to see to re-instill fear

Mainland China's govt is way more conservative than American conservatives imagine...Mao and the Gang of Four in their history have been pretty much discredited in the modern age but they are not afraid to invade Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc....we've invaded a few sovereign countries ourselves...if you're looking at revolutions against empires.....our country was formed by those folks...China is a military country...s0ldiers on the streets...like the US during the Kent State shootings....our violent protests y'know.....Taiwan is a democracy.. China like the US has two classes in society...rich and poor. They want to stifle the press.. familiar? If we had any balls we'd vote for Taiwan to rejoin the UN and have an embassy in Washington DC....China has one...Taiwan democracy doesn't....1 billion consumers trumps 23 million I guess

They are a straight up authoritarian state.

See: Hong Kong 2019

When you see an interview with a Chinese activist, it's not taped in China.

You know, because they, uh...:smiley-love:

Another case where America is kowtowing (pardon the Chinese term) to China....

I said this in another thread, but this isn't really a scandal. Blizzard is in a partnership with Activision, they're called Acti-Blizz, but 5% of their company is owned by Ten-Cent who is a huge Chinese company and also a huge publisher for Blizzard games in China. This was not a Blizzard decision it just sounds cool for these "news" types to throw it at Blizzard. This came from above anyone of Blizzards employee's heads.

Got it. Thanks for that. That's why we come here! :)

It kind of hits personally for me, I know many Blizzard employee's and have been either playing their games since I was 7. Kind of hurts to see friends get thrown under the bus on social media by people that don't really understand it's not their decision. Also if you work in the games industry Blizzard is like the holy grail of employers it could be a very bad career decision for some people to leave.

Well, it may go nowhere...but the unrest continues, nonetheless.

And later, the killings will continue until morale improves.

So, you're saying, in the final analysis nothing will change. And that would be a sad statement.

It would seem that things are going to change for the worse. That's what they are protesting against.

China's unchecked rise to world dominance during Obama's terms is stumbling into economic obstacles placed in it's path by Trump. It's a massively overpopulated, disgustingly polluted shithole with 1.43 billion people, all of them so unhappy they are only kept there by force.

Observers say Trump has already set them back years in their plans, and that their masses may be too great to be defeated if they revolt.

My God, you fall for just about any old crap the Trump cult dreams up.

Well, at any rate, they appear to be committed...

All this, in light of the dictator's clear warning....

“Anyone attempting to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones. And any external forces backing such attempts dividing China will be deemed by the Chinese people as pipe-dreaming!” ~Chinese President Xi Jinping
