This draft class is going to be ridiculous (3 Viewers)

We are 7 games into an 82 game season. We aren't in contention for anything.

When you look at the standings and we are third, we are a playoff team. Until we start dropping, that's the label. If you must be pessimistic and "down play" the record, then be my guest. As for me, I will look at it as a positive.

Mags is a master troll, it's really hard to tell when he's actually trolling or not.

Nobody is a playoff team right now. It's all just noise at this point.

I don't think he's trolling at all. I think Mags is a super homer, and proud of it. Kingspeed, on the other hand, is someone that I can't always tell if he's trolling or not.

I disagree. Game one is just as important as game 82. You add up the wins and losses, then decide who has the better record. For a team with a winning record, their chances of making the playoffs is better.

But if we go by your logic, Miami is a lotto team. Maybe they should trade LBJ for draft picks?

Agreed. Repped.

All the standings are in the first month is media talk. Once it actually gets close to playoff berth time, then it's time to -actually- talk about them.

That's not how hes thinking of it logically, just so you know. It's deeper than that.

So lets say team "A" misses the playoffs by 1.5 games. What if that team started the season 6-12. You don't think they would look at the beginning part of the season and say "Man if we only had a better start of the season!"

I think fans that don't take the beginning of the season into consideration as important is fucking silly. A good start builds confidence. Maybe that confidence lights a fire and your team plays better. That, in turn, makes you play even better and build more confidence.

I personally think every game is as important as the next.

I just think it's silly to say a team that has played 6 games is a playoff team when they could literally not be after game 7. Do they suck all of a sudden? What happens after game 8 when they are back in the playoffs? Are they great all of a sudden?

If we win tonight, it's great because we beat the team that beat us.

If we lose that game in March, and we had started 12-0, then who cares how you started if that game you lost gets you out of the playoffs?

It's never how you start, it's how you finish. Just because you start out good doesn't mean you end good. Too many variables to take the first month as anything more than a springboard... it could still break under you.

But, i'm fucking silly, so... my opinion means nothing, apparently. :MARIS61: :MARIS61:

Also, this would make Phoenix a play off team. And they aren't.

So is the beginning the end all be all? No, because Phoenix will miss the playoffs.

But again, we're fucking silly for thinking that. lol.

Every win counts, absolutely, but I think the past has shown us that a hot start doesn't necessarily indicate we will make the playoffs.

You should look at all the teams that made the playoffs in the last 10 years and see how they started the season with a good record. There have been only a handful of teams that had shitty novembers and made the playoffs.

So I disagree with your post

And, for the record, every game counts, but it's hard to get as jacked for a game in Novemeber when it makes you 6-2 than it would in March when it's time to clinch or go home. These games help, but not as much. Plain and simple.

Don't gloss over this to help your argument. :)

Its a great class because of Parker, Wiggins, Randle, Gordon, and Smart but beyond those guys it's just decent. Lot's of role guys like every year.

Miami will be in the playoffs. Shitty first half of november.

Phoenix has had a great first half of novemeber. Will miss the playoffs.

But, I can go look later at this. For now, I got 5 hours of classes to go to. :MARIS61:

November isn't over yet. I expect Miami to end November strong. I also think Phoenix will come down to earth as well. If they don't, then they may very well make the playoffs. There are 3 playoff teams looking like shit so far "Nugs, Memphis and Lakers"

There are always a few pretenders in the first 10 games of the season. But you sure get the sense that this year there is a lot more parity. Injuries will thin that group out, but really other than Utah and maybe Sacramento, it seems like every team has a shot in the west for the 6-8th spot.

The east to me is unbelievable. Other than the top 2 teams, they all look the same to me in terms of talent.

Mags you are right in the fact that these early games are important. Because it is going to be neck and neck with a lot of teams.

Whose permission does mags need to be excited about the team?

If this team starts out 14-2 and you're not excited about the team, then you're not really a fan in any sensible way, regardless of the fact that they still hadn't come close to qualifying for the playoffs.

Lakers are not a playoff team. I hate them just as the next, I know, but that team is HORRIBLE. Nuggets have to win the bulk at home again, because they aren't that good. Memphis just looks bad.

I said in that post the "first half" of november. that's all I'm gauging. Not the full month, since we're talking about this game, against the suns, on the 13th of november. So.

Anyway. Miami will be a 1 or 2 seed, Phoenix will be out. Lakers will have a shitty YEAR, not month. Memphis just looks discombobulated. Nuggets need to mesh, or something, because they look awful.

Fandom has parameters?

This isn't about fandom. So leave that out. It's just about which games are more important.

But, if you feel the need to alienate...

Would you or would you not be excited about a 14-2 start?

There's nothing wrong with being excited if you think the team is playing well - have at it. I just take issue Mags constant (and unfailingly hyper-optimistic) proclamations based on scant evidence. If this team is playing .600+ ball in late December then hell, I'll probably get excited.

Would you or would you not be excited about a 14-2 start?

The answer is obvious.

But putting parameters on fandom at all is exclusionary and un-needed. You and I may have a difference in opinion on things (like in this thread), but I know you're a fan, so Im never going to question it (even if it is on the homer side, its still cool). But to set parameters and say that "You must be this tall to be a fan" crap is just plain goofy.

If a supposed fan isn't excited, then how could they truly be a fan? There is parameters, just like everything in life. As you answered, your "parameter argument" is moot. You, Nik and many others would be excited right?

I think it's funny how some people were saying that Lionel Hollins was holding back the Grizz.... and now look at them? Maybe Lionel wasn't so bad after all?

But, if I am to set the record straight.

6-2 is great.

But 6-2 has never made the playoffs on Nov. 14th.

I don't look at standings for a long time (voluntarily, if it's posted on here, that's different.) Based on I don't want to get my hopes up and then have it be dashed by too much early optimism.

Think of it this way: Is it easier to handle if you let the expectations slowly build instead of already at a crescendo?

I just don't like being let down. And this team has a propensity to do that. So I temper accordingly.

Expectation is a resentment waiting to happen.

I always thought Lionel was the reason why they won so many games! When that was questioned, I just shrugged.

Yeah, I wish NOVoodoo was here, so we could tell him how wrong he was.
