Yes what we want and what we get in life are usually not on par. Doesn't mean its a failure.
So let me ask. Who was the attainable two way long athletic player we could have gotten? Do you have a targeted name?

F/A Targets:
Otto Porter Jr.
Kyle Anderson.
TJ Warren
Jalen Smith

Draft:
Dyson Daniels, Sochan (Perfectly happy with Sharpe tho)

Who knows what we could’ve traded the 7th pick for.

Not a fan but an idea:
Retaining Joe Ingles

There is a third option. Put the money back in your pocket and find another kid like Watford. Young, hungry, and cheap. Avoid the hard-cap issue until you find the player you really need.

How does that star fetch high enough picks to strike gold when the team you move him to now has that star, as well as whatever other star they have, making those picks, more than likely, crap?

shhhh....that kills the 'Trade Dame' logic...

"Portland can't contend with Dame because they can't land a 2nd star....so trade the one star for picks in the late 20's or 5-7 years from now and land two stars to contend....8-10 years from now"

Where are the Cronnin supporters now who said wait and see its all part of the plan when we traded assets to the clippers for peanuts?

I'm not sure i've ever seen a huge Cronin supporter but if there are some, i'm sure they are taking a reasonable stance and waiting for everything to play out. We aren't done

Gobert just went for 5 first round picks on a team with a bad track record of being good.

I think they will be better than us this year though.

However, Durant is being floated for a young star and picks. That's the avenue you gotta take. Hence, why I suggested something like Scottie Barnes and Van Vleet for Dame. Flip Van Vleet elsewhere for the picks.

TJ Warren would’ve been a home run. Damn would’ve loved that acquisition.

Could you imagine...The return on Dame + this young core and Simons on deck. Yes to the future. Y'all do realize they had to shut Simons down last year to actually lose? It is time to move Dame

Lol. All the roads you forgot to turn on to get to that is nice.

Just wait until the deadline then make that decision. Otherwise you're reactionary and not seeing what you have. And that's stupid.

It'll be okay.

Also, in a real business they wouldn’t fire their “top shelfers” without having replacements since that would be a massive issue.

Also a real boss would say; Don’t care. Find top shelfers. We need them in order for our business to function.

Your analogy might work if you then attributed heights to those 13-15 employees. “We can only have 13-15 employees, but only 4 can be 6’6 or shorter because the other 10-11 need to be able to reach the top shelf.” We have 10 that are 6’6 or shorter so you need to find a way to cut that down to 4 and hire 6 guys that are taller. Then when you came with 6’2 GP2 the boss would say, “look that’s great he has great shipping. But he can’t reach the shipping shelf, so… no.”

With your last point you somewhat addressed it. But it was the MAIN reason we blew up the team. Then to act all ho hum about it is ridiculous lol
Who are the top shelves that were good and were fired? Roco was not good and nance was sick all the time...

I think the Cornin supporters (if there is such a thing) mostly said Cronin was attempting to get out of Powell & RoCo's contracts. I'm guessing the "blow it up" people were excited about this.

I'm not overly excited about where things stand on July 2nd. I also wasn't excited by the lack of changes a year ago, knowing the roster was the problem, yet Olshey only made a coaching change.

One year has passed. We changed coaches, we've now changed GMs, the roster has changed, but the roster is still the problem.

Minny made a real stupid trade

Houston traded RoCo for two first round picks. Does that mean that any average role player is worth two first round picks? Or does it mean that Portland made a stupid trade and the price they paid in the stupid trade should not be used as a template for an expected return of any other comparable star?

as you guys are so willing to say....over and over and over....Dame is 32 years old; he's a short guard who plays bad defense. He's also coming off his worst season as a pro and hasn't played since he had surgery to correct a chronic injury; and he's on a super-max deal eligible for an extension. No team is going to trade 5 first round picks for him. Maybe no team would even trade 3 first round picks for him. Do I hear a bid of 2 firsts?

Yeah, they could let Lillard continue to make public demands and threats until moves are made for a mediocre two-year attempt at the playoffs.

We could hope that Lillard was inspired by the play he watched from the bench, with ball movement and happy players getting after it. Maybe he will adjust his game.

Or we could trade Lillard for a couple nice young pieces now, and get this party started!

How do you know that? People were down on Gobert and he just went for 5 firsts. And he is a big. That is 30.

Teams have other teams picks. You could trade him to X team for their pick and the picks they own from some shit team It’s not hard to involve other teams. You could end up with a stud 21/22 year old and some first round picks. You have Sharpe and Ant.

Which teams do you think would throw a big offer to us for Dame right now? Realistically.

the same way you know otherwise
Know otherwise of what? That Gobert just went for 5 firsts?

I've said countless times, figure out what his value is if you're the Blazers. If its 1 1st round pick you don't trade him. If its Scottie Barnes and Van Vleet, and you can flip Van Vleet for some picks... Well. I'll root for you in Toronto, Dame.

Go team by team. Obviously has to be a team that is in title contention, or wants to be, right? Start with the west...Suns? no. Memphis? no. GS? no. Dallas? Sure. Nothing to offer. Utah? Not anymore. Denver? No good picks to offer. Minnesota? Nope. Clippers? Nothing to offer. Pelicans? Nope. Spurs? Rebuilding. Lakers? Nothing to offer. Kings? Wanna hitch your wagon to Fox making close to 30 a year? I don't. OKC and Houston, no.
East: Miami is a possibility. Boston, unlikely. Milwaukee, unlikely. Philly, hard capped, and unlikely. Toronto maybe. Chicago, maybe. Brooklyn, nope. Cleveland seems unlikely. Atlanta no. Charlotte no. Knicks, likely a no now. Washington maybe. Indy, Det., Orl., all seem like a no. So what do we have? like 4 teams able to make an offer? Or likely to? Which of them have a bunch of picks from other teams?

I actually think as long as Dame plays well as most expect, but the teams sucks, his value will be much higher come trade deadline. The injury will be of the past and teams will be more desperate to get what they believe is the piece to a ring.
No reason to trade him now.

I’ve never looked into it because I know it won’t happen. But how about the Knicks. They’d love Lillard. Involve another team. The Sixers. The Heat. Young guys like Maxey, Herro, Quickly, Barrett, all moveable

With rising star Anthony Edwards?

They will be better than us next year.
Minnesota has KAT (age: 26) and Edwards (age: 20) and Gobert (age: 30). I'd swap rosters with them in a split second.

They may or may not be better than we are next year, but I expect they'll definitely be better over the next five years or so.

Russell is 26 and would be our 2nd best player.

Gobert, Kat or Russell would be our 2nd best player.

Edwards could be better than Dame next year. He is a true star on the uprise. If not next year, in another year or two.
