Someone should tell him those steals don't count towards his career totals.

It's just funny to me.

And I would still love to get this guy. I don't care about him doing the same stuff that most youth including myself has done from time to time. It's not like he was arrested for violence or hard drugs. He went into a vacant house. big fucking deal.

As a parent, I can think of a number of reasons why a kid would break into a vacant house - including vandalism, drinking, drugs, and sex. I doubt he was there on a sight-seeing tour! I guess we will find out eventually how serious it really is.

Tough to do criminal things if you're playing FIBA on the XBox with Rudy and Batum, or LARPing in the Pearl with Frye.

Though it does give him a good foundation for a character...the Level 2 Warrior/Thief (since he's got some experience already)

Those are all good reasons. If it is any of those, no problem, he's normal.

Dude, he's never going to get anywhere dual-classing like that. Depending on the system, it could take him twice as long to level up properly.

Anybody else hope this causes him to slide in the 2010 draft so we can take him with the 30th pick? Maybe we should start rumors that he has bad kidneys?

Seriously though, I facepalmed while driving when I heard this. The kid is at least a year away from making buckets of cash, and he does this stupid crap. Ricockulous.

Doesn't sound that bad. Stupid, very stupid.... but not that bad. Just a kid doing stupid high school kid stuff.

No forced entry, nothing stolen, nothing vandalized... oh the horror, the sheer horror.

Wrong. That is not burglary. The common law definition of burglary is the breaking and entering of the house of another at night with the intent to commit a felony therein.

I don't think the "at night" is part of the definition.

Wrong. That is not burglary. The common law definition of burglary is the breaking and entering of the house of another at night with the intent to commit a felony therein. States have expanded the definition of burglary, but not typically to the extent that breaking and entering is sufficient, especially if no one is in the house.
I am under the impression that the house was abandoned. John Wall is facing a misdemeanor charge of B&E, not a burglary rap, which is a felony. That's like a guy slapping a girl on the ass and you insisting that he would face rape charges.

Look, raise your hand if you have NEVER been somewhere you shouldn't. Never trespassed, never snuck into an abandoned building, never played around an empty construction site.

We have due process of law for a reason, we don't even know yet if it was indeed John Wall and if there are no mitigating circumstances surrounding his reasons for being in the house (if he was in the house).

Absent more evidence, I don't think this reflects on his brains or maturity, other than that he is human, imperfect, and 19 years old.

Have fun with that schnadefreud though.

Stop it right now! We don't want reality, we want Wall dropping to #30 and snagging him!

Whatever the legal ramifications of this, from my understanding of the actual crime (trespassing in a vacant house) it doesn't seem particularly worrisome in regards to his character. If this is the sole issue on his soul at draft time, I wouldn't be at all concerned with drafting him, as a GM. I'd love for it to help drop him to a spot that KP can trade up to and select him. ;) But I doubt it'll deter very many GMs.

This kid almost went to UO. Glad he decided to go elsewhere.

what the hell is wrong with you? Quit acting like a bunch of pompous assholes people! Let he who has not sinned cast the first motherfucking stone. It was only a citation btw, he was not even arrested!

It's quite possible that he and some friends were hanging out at an abandoned house they meet up in every other week to hold prayer meetings and plan the next weeks charity events, we don't fucking know.

OMG! He got the equivalent of a parking ticket! Glad he's not on MY team...

EDIT: see my signature.

I have no dog in this fight. I'm just saying as a Ducks fan, we have enough drama surrounding the basketball team that we really wouldn't need this.

I don't know the exact details of the law in that state, but in Oregon, "at night" is not part of the definition. Nor is the definition limited to a "house". Breaking into any structure with the intent to commit a crime is a burglary.

Maybe he broke in to drink beer or smoke a little pot - in which case your comments have some merit. Maybe it's something more serious. Either way, I stand by my point. People excuse his behavior by pointing out he is just a kid (which is true), but then turn around and say that he is old enough and mature enough to be in the NBA?

How old were the two minors? Were they male or female?

would you like to place money on that? Pirates have booty right? EDIT: Ah, but commies might not... dammit...

I specifically said that was the "common law definition" which requires it to be at night. I know this because I will be tested on it Thursday.

Ah so. You are quite right. Good luck on the test.

And yes, the commie part of me will take what you have and redistribute it. The pirate part will fail at the redistribution, but will certainly participate in the taking.

Anyhow, the point was, it wasn't burglary ( a felony) it was B&E a misdemeanor citation.

Also, I just finished a con law exam and managed to incorporate "Rule 34" into my discussion of obscenity and freedom of speech.

Hope you did better at it than you did at spelling "schadenfreude".

FWIW, buzz about Wall prior to this incident was that he was immature. This doesn't exactly alleviate those concerns.

In Oregon . . . it doesn't need to be at night or with the intent to commit a felony . . . and no one needs to be in the house . . . in fact it doesn't even need to be a house.

Unfortunately . . . I know.

Definitions aside, entering someone else's house uninvited gets you shot some of the time.

I have to say this is a dissappointing move by a kid named after a Catholic martyr and saint. :tsktsk:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_law

maybe this will help clear up confusion as to what I was talking about.

Thanks for the site . . . interesting read.

I was just trying to clear up confusion because in Oregon, those requirements (at night, in a house, to commit a felony) aren't needed to commit a burglary. It doesn't take much to commit a burglary out here . . .

So if this kid was in Oregon and he went into an abandoned house to drink a beer or smoke a joint . . . that could be burglary in Oregon

ORS 164.215 Burglary in the second degree.
(1) Except as otherwise provided in ORS 164.255, a person commits the crime of burglary in the second degree if the person enters or remains unlawfully in a building with intent to commit a crime therein.

(2) Burglary in the second degree is a Class C felony

So boys and girls, words of advise. Don't go into your ex-girlfriend's apt and take her cell phone (even if you paid for it) . . .

A buddy of mine was charged for burglary after entering an empty apartment without permission in his building..... and when I say empty, I mean empty.... it was a vacant apartment.... unfortunately the cops were already banging down his door because of a trail of broken plastic lawn chairs leading back to his place, but that's a whole other story.
