Notice This is the worst Blazer team I have seen in my lifetime.

Oh I read it. That’s how I responded to it. Your anger seems unhealthy. Find a new interest if this is so infuriating for you. You said Hood looked lost and unconfident etc. I just thought I would remind you that he tore his Achilles and maybe that is causing it.

Ok, so let me break it down for you so you understand -

Chris Craig says we should bench Hood.

I quote him and essentially agree with him that Hood looks lost and unconfident, but that the team is also putting him in a position to fail by changing his role and putting him with a bunch of me-first players. He did better in the role that they have DJJ in.

You come in with some pointless post about him tearing his achilles. That's great. He's still playing and we're talking about how he's doing so far.

Thanks. And I just responded that maybe, just maybe, he looks bad because he’s coming back from one of the worst injuries a basketball player can have. But you know this. You covered the team professionally.

Just based on what I've seen in these 4 pre-season and last night's game, I'm not real high on having RoCo at the PF spot. I think we need more scoring and length there. I'd move him to SF, with Jones as backup. Hood looks like he's going to take time to get his game back, so I'd just give him spot minutes. Until Collins returns, I'd go with Melo and Giles at the PF spot.

I dont remember a blazer team getting blown out of 4 straight games. No excuse for that when you have a superstar.

Blazers can't make teams pay for concentrating on dame, then on the other end you see teams moving the ball and getting open shots...

Cool. I'm going to put you on my ignore list because I find you boring and tedious. Feel free to do the same.

I don’t want to put you on ignore because I am looking forward to more of your keen insight like this is the worst team of your lifetime.

We are all very aware Hood is coming back from an Achilles injury. We haven't been under a rock. Hood isn't ready to be playing the role they have him playing yet. He just isn't there.

Julius posted that he should only be playing spot minutes while he gets back to as close as his old form as he can. He might not ever get close to that, who knows.

Julius also said we should play Giles.

I agreed. I said we should bench Hood, playing him only spot minutes as Julius suggested until he gets more into form. I noted the Melo/Kanter front court is not working. I noted the bench would work better with Hood benched, Melo moved to the three, and Giles to the four.

Natebishop and TBpup agreed.

You decided to suggest we have no idea Hood is returning from an Achilles injury. We know. We all know. It doesn't need to be explicitly forenamed.

To the the sky is falling, we're the worst team ever people in this thread:

Are you predicting a 15 win season? Are you just saying the last 4 games were bad, but you expect things to turn around and to what level?

To me, if this is the worst team the Blazers ever had, you should expect them to win 20 games or less.

I laid out why it's the worst team. We very well might even make the 8th seed (because obviously we need to keep Terry around). I never said the metric was wins and losses.

We haven't improved on last year at all. In fact, we look markedly worse.

We are pissing away Dame's prime.

Our offense is completely built around iso and me-first basketball. Melo went almost the entire game without PASSING the ball. The defense actually looks worse than last year. The team looks selfish. Uninterested. Lost. Defeated. This is the worst Blazer TEAM I have ever seen.

Yes I read all that. Just can’t wrap head around critiquing Rodney Hood of all people last night and calling him lost and unconfident when it’s just because he had a horrific injury one year ago. Like all of a sudden he forgot how to play basketball.

If they continue to play this bad...;)

I tend to think the 05-06 21 win blazers was worse, headlined by the three headed monster of Steve Blake, Zach and Darius Miles. That was pretty bad but I’m old enough to remember 2005 so maybe that’s it. 2012 wasn’t fun either with those 33 wins and Luke Babbitt and company but that was 8 years ago.

The last 4 games were definitely bad. How many games will the Blazers win? Who knows. Playing like they have the last three to four games, probably not very many.

What we are saying is there are several red flags here. The Blazers are playing the worst we have seen in years. The defense is worse than it was last season after adding more defensive presence.

The players look out of shape, out of mind. Neither their bodies, hearts, or heads are in the game.

Maybe its just having new players. But, Blazers had new players last year and started the season far better.

Maybe its just lineups. But, unfortunately Stotts won't change them until we go 0-10 or something. He likes to force it and continue to hope it will work even when it won't. He goes by who he thinks deserve the minutes by way of senority rather than what actually works and what is best.

Maybe its suddenly changing to a new defensive scheme that has sidetracked the team, but it is hard to buy that is at fault. The last four games, I have not seen a team working to fit in a new scheme. I have seen lazy and selfish play along with incompatible lineups that simply aren't and won't work because of player personality and play type as well as an inability by the coach to make adjustments and adapt because he is so set on his way working or no way at all.

What we are saying is, there are several issues here and we are concerned.

wow...a meltdown thread and I didn't participate. Losing my touch

did anybody mention how when Utah had built their big lead they went into the "playoff Dame" defense? Were running two players at him most of the last 30 minutes of the game. Thankfully, this year, the Blazers finally have an answer: Melo and CJ go full ball-hog while Jones stands in the corner

and the worries about Portland's small-ball rebounding issue can be put to rest. Utah barely squeaked out a tiny 19 rebound advantage

there....now I've participated.

To be fair... we watched the same thing happen for three straight preseason games (one of which was against the KINGS) and then saw the exact same thing play out in the season opener.

I think Hood did look lost and unconfident. And certainly much of that could be due to that he doesn't trust his body yet. Both can be true.

But did you consider that he tore his Achilles a year ago?

Got it... so more underachieving and selfish than anything. Appreciate the clarification.

I agree with several issues to be concerned abot part. Should/could have seen some of those things before a game was even played.

I was responding to the hyperbolic nature of worst ever. I would suspect after 72 games, this take won't look as strong, but it appears we all define how to measure "worst team" differently.

If they continue to play this bad...;)

For sure, we'd never win a game!

Maybe I'm a blind optimist for thinking that isn't going to happen. I said this was a 42-43 win team a couple weeks ago and got blasted by some for being super negative; I'm bad at keeping up with the trend that we're either winning it all or the worst team ever.

I find Dame's performance concerning too. Double teamed all night without teammates coming to set screens to get him out. Not enough attempts of playing Dame off the ball to get him shots, nothing.

Dame was scoreless in the first half. As much as that is also on Stotts and his teammates, its also him. He is supposed to be a star player. I haven't seen any star player stopped offensively like I have seen Dame stopped.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with any of that.

By concerning, you think he's quit on the team moving forward? Will struggle to score 20ppg this year?

I fully expect him to have 30+ points and play well next game, but I could be wrong.
