I thought we decided on nards
Yeah, that's really my point. Right now we're on the verge of being 2-deep at every position. I don't want to start going all Trader Bob and bringing in vets that demand minutes and fuck things up. Don't let Brandon Wright be our Detlef.
Or Rod Strickland - The Sequel.

Yeah, I was debating between Detlef and Strick, but I chose Detlef because I like saying Detlef.
Whitsitt REALLY fucked up a good thing. We had the best record in the league the day before he signed Strickland and hadn't lost more than 2 games in a row all season. We immediately lost 5 in a row, fell to the 8th seed in the West and got swept in the first round by the same Lakers team we took to 7 games (and fell one quarter short of beating) the year before.

The first game we had Strickland, weren't we looking good early in the game, and then just crumbled (which was a microcosym of things to come).
Yes. And I remember it was some kind of special occasion - can't remember what - retiring a number? Anyone? and they were playing the then Vancouver Griz, a really bad team.
aka we want to develop him so we cant trade lma if we have to?
Yeah. I think it was Clyde we were retiring, no? Pretty certain it was.
"Again, he comes into a dysfunctional franchise, as you pointed out, not a great fit for a player like Thomas Robinson. That was not a good fit for him. The Houston thing was a wash and my guess is they don't give him up if they don't go get the Dwight Howard deal, if they weren't going to move that direction and try to clear cap space."
I would rather have Hickson at 5 mil/yr than T-Rob at 3.5
Not me. Robinson has a much higher ceiling. Can we hire Karl Malone as an assistant?
I'd rather have Hickson at $5M AND Robinson at $3.5M than LMA at $14M.I would rather have Hickson at 5 mil/yr than T-Rob at 3.5
The Blazers continue to fail to aggressively hire top notch coaching talent for their young players. It mystifies me.
At least they finally overhauled their medical/training staff somewhat.

Don't we already know what Hickson is at this point? A hustle player who doesn't/can't defend and will probably be nothing more than a good high energy backup. What good does it do having a guy with that resume' and starter's aspirations? At least with Robinson he's got a chance to be more than that ... for 1.5 million dollars less.
You are right, Robinson has a chance to be more than that, but also less than that. I would like to see the Blazers have a bench they can rely on and know what they are going to get out of it.
I understand all the excitement that comes with rookies and in this case the #5 pick (he is also a player two other teams didn't seem overly concerned with giving up the high ceiling) but he really hasn't proved anything yet, Hickson has. A good high energy backup for 5 million a yr sounds reasonable (plus I think Hickson can improve, but that is another discussion )
You know, I realized after I posted that, that I don't even know who we have on staff this year to work with Meyers, or how they stack up. I was going on past history, where I've sometimes been pretty disappointed. (Caleb? Really?) But, there is in fact new management in town so maybe they are going in the right direction. When I look at how much Paul Allen pays his players, historically, I just don't know why the organization hasn't spent more, really a minute fraction of player costs, on the best support, training and coaching staff money can buy.How do you know this? Because we haven't hired a big name past player? It isn't guaranteed, at all, that the best players will make the best coaches.
Didn't we make Grgs the highest paid assistant in the league?
I didn't know that. How long has he been gone? It seems like an eternity.Didn't we make Grgs the highest paid assistant in the league?
Even before Neil landed TRob this coach was on my list of big-man coaches they should try to pry away.

Considered the best big-man coach in college basketball.
