Thomas Robinson - young Zbo comparison

Zach's offensive low post game was incredibly polished coming out of college.

T-Rob may never be that polished, but may make up for it with his superior athleticism.

the one thing I'd like to see is his improvement on slowing the hell down around the basket

All of this. Which is why I see him as more of a second coming of Jerome than Z-bo ... there's almost nothing about Robinson's game that reminds me of Z-Bo's.

Joel Przybilla ring a bell? He's not working these days. I always wanted Laimbeer on our bench for that reason.

Joel has pretty horrible footwork on the offensive end. I know he is the sentimental choice for many, but he would be a bad choice, IMO

He will never have the soft hands of zbo, but zbo will never have the athletic ability of TRob. That ability also allows TRob to develop into a good defender, something that i don't think zbo was capable of, even if he wanted to. If TRob can become a garbage man on O, a hustle player all the time and a defensive stopper, I'll be over the moon. And the good thing is, that's the direction he's developing. Just give him time and chances to improve and prove himself.

Why would Damantas Sabonis go to Gonzaga? Isn't that somewhere in NE Washington between the tulies and the amber fields of grain?

He should go to Oregon.

Or PSU. ;)

God I loved that team.

Yeah, me too. I first became a Blazers fan from afar during the Walton days. He was my favorite college player ever, and I continued to follow him when the Blazers drafted him. But I REALLY became a Blazers fan when I moved here in 1989. That first 1989-90 season, I attended 22 total Blazers games, including preseason, regular season and playoffs - they won every one of those games. In fact, the Blazers won the first 45 games I attended. Man those teams were good, and hardly ever lost at home.

But you have such a baby face! Does your hot wife know you're twice her age? :devilwink:

It's an on going joke. I told her when I was 17 and saw her mom breast feeding, I said "I'm gonna tap that shit in 20 years!

She is 23 and I am 40

I see Robinson as a Jerome Kersey with actual talent. He has incerdible athleticism and can play. he just needs some seasoning.

I'm thinking he can be a Ruben Patterson type player...

He does some things on the court that make me wanna pull my hair out..Then he'll redeem himself with a monster offensive rebound putback..all things considered I'm very glad we have him!

I agree. I think the biggest problem with T. Rob is when he thinks too much. If he settles down and plays loose like he would in the playground, he would be a beast. We already have our franchise players and T. Rob is in a perfect environment. He can slowly develop without the pressure to live up to the hype. Hopefully Stotts and the rest of the team is doing their part to instill this philosophy in him.

He's on the right course and getting regular minutes and knows what is expected of him, that will help "relax" him and make him more consistent, I think he now feels he belongs and I really like his upside fro here, great addition

I think he may be a bit like Jermaine O'Neal... someone that may take 4-5 years to really get his footing, but heck wouldn't we have liked to have O'Neal back in his prime?

Good point!!!!

I'm not really sure who Robinson reminds me of right now. Zach isn't really the best comparison. There are some similarities, but overall very different players. McDyess is an interesting comparison, but McDyess was a freaaaaak athlete.

Tell me the spin move isn't a dead ringer...

I think Robinson is a much better athlete and rebounder than Williamson, but there are some definite similarities.

If we're just talking about past Blazers I'm not sure I have a great comp, but Uncle Buck and Jerome keep springing to mind, but probably because of the energy level he plays with.

I think the ideal scenrio inside the Blazers is to see if the kid pans out, and if so, he takes LA's place next year when they trade LA for a Big.
