Thoughts on Jermaine O'Neal?

I see no reason that would happen any more then it does now. You said yourself that he is not the same player.

I don't think we need Jermaine but that reason you gave has nothing to do with why.
I disagree. Having him on the roster would make him part of the daily conversation about the team, and the "we shoulda kept him when we had him" people would come out of the woodwork.

Thoughts:
1. He's old and broken down.
2. He hasn't been any help to a team for a while.
3. If he's going to sign for the vet min. it will be for a team that has a chance to go far.
4. I hope he retires.
5. He's kind of a shnook.

All of that doesn't matter now. It's over and done with. But that doesn't mean Jermaine wouldn't be useful to have on our team.

Exactly.... Who gives a fuck with the "Shoulda coulda woulda" fans.... If Jerm can be had for cheap, then why not? He's a defensive minded PF/C and is already at peace with being a back-up type role player. Isn't that what we need?

I have zero problems with bringing in JO for the right price. Love to hear his attitude and I think Meyers could actually learn a few things from a person he looks up to. And once again it sounds like the knee treatment in Germany and the Phoenix Suns trainers are doing wonders for people.

This is not a horrible option. Jermaine would be a nice veteran addition IMO. We would still need a 3rd center though.

The question is can we afford two vets and Leonard
O'Neal, Leonard and another rookie
O'Neal, Leonard and someone like Mozgov

Center by committee may have to be the option whether we like it or not.

My first thought when I read it. I read about what Germany does, but what does the Phoenix staff do. Get O'Neal just for that reason alone and have him give a detailed account.

The good thing about jermaine is he can play pf too. So not only can he give us spot minutes at center, he can contribute at pf too.

But if we are going to have a center by committee, I would much rather have dalembert as the starting center. He gives a good 15-20 minutes of solid defense and rebounding. Also makes room for more burn for Leonard; if we are looking to him to be our center of the future.

Great read. He shows a lot of wisdom and maturity. He would be a good vet to come off the bench and mentor Leonard. We need that defensive post player he talked about first though. After that, I'm all for bringing Jermaine back in that role.

Surprised HCP isn't talking about J.O. possibly coming back to the Blazers...

On the flip side if you we are looking for Leonard to be our center of the future, wouldn't JO help Leonard develop more? IMO he would actually take Leonard under his wing. Dalembert seems like a malcontent everywhere he goes. Not sure he would. But in the end we need 3 big bodies in the middle not counting LMA.

I think that is what he is saying. Bring in both Dalembert and JO and keep Leonard.

Dalembert could be a locker room problem; but in all he's just a 20 minute player. That gives Leonard at least 20-25 minutes of development time. Oneal should play a little spot up minutes at center but be aldridges back up

We're talking about bringing back JO, but not having a need for Sheed? He'd unretire for the right price.

This is a really good point. Using my newly developed Super Friends matrix, we have a Batman (Lillard), we have a Superman (Aldridge), we have a Flash (Batum), we have a Green Arrow (Matthews). What we need is a Green lantern before we focus on the Aquaman's, WonderWoman's and Blue Beetles of the world. And definitely not the wonder twins

Phoenix actually has wonder twins. Marcus and Markeiff Morris. Pretty cool.

I like Jermaine O'Neal and I think he would be a better vet than Jared Jeffries would.
