Curious how people feel about the job Tiago Splitter has done and if you want him to be our next head coach?

For me I’d give him an A. Through all the turmoil to start the year, all the injuries and having to take over a team that you had zero history with prior to a few months of training camp I think there is no question he deserved a ton of the credit.

I hated Billups rotations I won’t touch on the fact that there may have been a reason for some of them because I still hold out hope that wasn’t the case. Tiago has a really good feel for situational basketball, maybe it’s simply going to a zone for a few possessions, late game subs, offensive defensive subs, putting players in position to not on succeed but feel confident your coach isn’t going to yank you around, he seems to empower guys to play their brand of basketball while still playing within our system (Spurs way), play calls and in bounds plays are keep it simple no need at times to complicate it.

Do I feel like he’s done enough to earn the head coaching position for the Blazers I do. I think there are some great coaches out there and but this team seems to just play hard, never give up no matter who’s playing attitude under coach Tiago. We may have found a gem and I would be disappointed if he didn’t get the job.

I like Tiago. I don't know what will happen this off season. Dundon may bring in a new front office and that would almost definitely result in a new coaching staff. Maybe if Cronin impresses Dundon this trade deadline we'll see both him and Tiago leading our team next season.

He’s done a really solid job considering the circumstances

He needs to figure out inbound passing and how to get the team to stop turning the ball over so much

True but don’t think they’d turn ball over as much if they had healthy point guard and not young SG with no experience at playing facilities and a forward who’s also never played that role

I am pretty happy with him. They are close to 500 and G-leaguers are playing in clutch time. He sees something like a blown coverage and he immediately calls a timeout.

Remember, he is using Billups' staff and system.

I think he's earned the right to build his own coaching staff and install his system/philosophy.

Also, it's clear that Clingan put in a ton of work this offseason, but I have to wonder if some of his progress this year is due to Tiago.

The inbound pass has been a frustration for me for a very long time. Maybe a decade.

As for turning the ball over, I blame a lot of it on the pace of the game. They attack the basket a lot more now, as well as make the extra pass a lot more. I prefer that to walking it up the court and launching more 3s, even if it results in more TOs. Plus, the injuries to our PGs were a factor.

But to your point, yeah, they still need to cut down on them.

Solid but Billups had them playing borderline elite defense.

I wish they would have stayed with that style

Even if Tiago has done a good job I bet they will move on from him and find someone else, that’s just how these things work out sometimes. They probably already have a few coaches in mind.

Wasn't there some talk when he was brought in about instilling some of his offensive philosophy from wherever he was coaching before?

Anyways, I'm a fan. Happy to offer the job to him. Was talking with a friend recently about how I really like when an opponent is going on a run, he doesn't immediately call for a timeout. Clearly something he picked up from Popovich, and I remember Phil Jackson often doing that as well. A small thing but feel like it shows a trust in his players to work through things, which I always appreciate, versus the very generic oh, opponent is on a 10-0 run, I better call a timeout here.

I think he's a perfect coach for the most international team in the league..he's got experience head coaching in France and we have 3 French speaking players....he's really engaged in the game on the sidelines and for a first year head coach he's miles better than Chauncey was with rotations and timeouts, etc. Guys seem to like him. He's not aw shucks happy after a loss like Chauncey was most of the time...Tiago looks like he's got some of Terry Stotts calmness and Pop's fire in him. He's only going to get better. He seems very close to Deni and compared their euro league styles to each other. If we can't get Spoelstra, I think we should keep him long term.
