To those "In the Know", what is that addictive box on the scorer's table?

It all started last year when my wife and I had great seats to a game and were only about 7 rows back from the team bench and the scorer's table. Matisse was out for a long stretch as we all remember. We are both big fans of him and were happy to at least be able to see him there while we watched the game. Very soon, we started noticing he would take little trips to the scorer's table and take something from this little plastic box and unwrap it, popping into his mouth. Well, this repeated VERY often. At one point, he tried to stuff several of whatever they are into the pocket of another street clothed player. We have photos.

Flash forward to recently. We noticed Dame grab something out of there. It got us thinking, what is this? A box of assorted gum, mints, candies? Is it just for a treat or does it serve a specific purpose? Thybulle seemed like he was crazy about it last year. Then we saw him go for it again this year and she called him The Candy Man and I cracked up. I followed with the The Candy Man CAN. (We have a running joke that she has the hots for the players like Jerami and Matisse who are easy on the eyes/or that they would have the hots for her because SHE is hella easy on the eyes. I'm always teasing her about it. Or making somewhat crude or innuendo-laden jokes. Or she is. So now you know what The Candy Man CAN implied. Haha.

Anyway, I told her I would ask on here:

What's in the box????? What is it and why is it there?

I've seen on a past broadcast them have candy there for the players. They talked about it a little, that it maybe started with a little bit of this that and that the players liked it and started giving preferences to what exact candy should show up there. There was someone (and intern or something) who's job it was to make sure to get those exact candies and fill it before each game.

I can’t hear “what’s in the box” without thinking about movie “Seven” Brad Pitt

Is this candy for big Soviet burst of energy on court? Don't they crash afterward? And does the team employ a dentist???????? Matisse was going to have a sugar shutdown at the rate he was going that one night. And we saw him subsequent nights during broadcasts.

Her cookies are amazing!

Oh! I remember now. Crandc is a she! I had forgotten! And that's why I thought cookies were a metaphor coming from just another manly lug on this board. In my mind, it was like @BoBoBREWSKI was offering up his cookies and I was like, "nobody asked for your cookies in our face!!!". So, if real cookies were offered, baked by a genuine competent creator of confectionary, then now this makes perfect sense and I should retreat in embarrassment, shrieking with maniacal, nervous laughter into the sunset, over the damp hills to the West.

Not that men can't bake good cookies or that women can't bake awful clumps of cursed choking-material.

....but I am still confused and wondering if we are speaking in riddles and metaphors.

It's just bizarre. NBA players usually always sometimes seem mature beyond their years (except Russel Westbrook and Curry and James and....oh, nevermind) and sometimes it's hard to realize I'm older than all of them. Then to learn that they go all kindergarten over a box of candies just makes me laugh

Sugar, don't they know that stuff will kill ya?! Plus, they already have so much sugar temptation off the court in their personal lives. A little box of candy on the court---- or a girl named Candy with a little box off the court. Either gives you a rush and a burst of energy, but then doesn't your strength get sapped????

Broadcaster keeping hard candy makes sense. Try talking nonstop two or three hours and see what it does to your throat. Sucking a peppermint or lemon drop during a break relieves the throat. Not sure if players get dry mouth, or want a sugar rush or just have a sweet tooth.

This was Dame's flask so he could drink like a fish during games.
