If we have to lose a star to early retirement, I'd rather it be a shooting guard. It's easiest position to replace by far (see - Wes Matthews vs Memphis Grizzlies).
That implies we have plenty of stars to lose and it's just a matter of picking a position. Stars are hard to replace, regardless of the position. Portland had only one major star (with the hope of a second if Oden ever stays healthy) and they just lost him, potentially forever. That he played shooting guard doesn't make it any easier to replace him as a star.
