Going to Tokyo for work for two weeks and will have a few days to adventure about.... anyone got any recommendations? Really lookin for anything tbh, not a huge foodie but do like good food, looking to take some pics so any random sites to see or hectic night markets would be cool to go see.

Take some time to visit Kyoto....Tokyo is a beehive of neon.. not a cheap city to eat in but if you like sushi or don buri it's great .

Tokyo's great. Kyoto's great too.

If you like trains, Japan is paradise. Take the Shinkansen. Take the Yamanote line at rush hour :) Take a random little train out into the hinterlands to visit some random little town.

Go electronics shopping in Akihabara. Go see the young folk in Shibuya. Ride the monorail and ferris wheel in Odaiba.

That sounds incredible.

any suggestions of what area to stay in?

What part of town is work? That should probably help determine where you stay.

Work is near koto city, and flying out of haneda airport if that matters at all, but could stay realistically anywhere in the city, would like to be somewhere where i am kind of in the mix of shops and things.

ended up picking shinjuku as my hotel after my work hotel! @barfo

Excellent choice. Lots of stuff going on there, easy to get anywhere else you want to go.
Can't remember what it's called, but there is a multi-level hardware/home goods/craft supply store next door to the Takashimaya that is a lot of fun to browse through and a good source of small gifts for those back home.

How do you know Tokyo so well?

Went to this little town/neighborhood called Kawagoe. SUPER cool! All the buildings look 100s of years old. Some are, but the new building were meant to look from that era. Definitely worth an afternoon visit.

luckily im not that big of a foodie or a drinker let alone a seafood guy so ill probably be safe from that, but im guessing its a bad time? @THE HCP did you have any issues with your tattoos? @barfo same for you if you have tattoos
You'll probably be safe eating Katsu don which is basically a breaded pork chop over rice with some pickled radish and egg..basic Japanese farmer meal. If you don't do pork you can try Ebi don which is shrimp tempura over rice with the same stuff...usually comes with a small bowl of miso soup

I'm not sure what sort of issues you are expecting?

I don't have any - when I was young pretty much the only people who got tattoos were navy guys and bikers, and at the time I was neither.

just heard people don’t like them out there for the most part and can’t go into some of public areas with them showing or something like that.

Yeah, I can see that. I guess not having any myself, I was never made aware of the issue.

In Japan and Taiwan, Korea and China traditionally gangsters wore tattoos ...in Japan the Yakuza ..in China and Taiwan the Green Triad or Bamboo Triads...etc...so educated regular folks look at is a public sign of a possibly dangerous person.

Maybe that’s why I was getting weird looks in that little village!
