Tom Peterson passes away.

I've met people from as far away as Europe who know about his connection with the area. He had sort of an every man sensibilty with a little bit of a Joe Isuzu personality. One if those guys who just wanted you to buy a large overpriced microwave every few years. God bless his socks. He will be missed.

A Tip of The Cap to Portland's Noblest Hawker, who brought respectability to his trade and a little humor to the late-night masses.

I was more of a Smith's Home Furnishing bro though. I did go to Tom Peterson's but wasn't most of his stuff really really cheap off name brands and stuff? Zenith and shit like that?

Tom Petersons was more for the eastsiders I believe. :MARIS61:

Anyone going to miss those free haircuts?

I used to work in a bank during summers at college. He used to come in to the branch I worked at on 82nd and Division. Super nice guy. Always pleasant, knew all the employees by name.

I wanted to buy one of his watches on eBay a few years ago for old times sake, nobody out here has ever heard of him so I thought it would be a cool conversation starter...they are like $200! Apparently Kurt Cobain wore one so they are super kewl.

You aren't joking. I did a Google search on Kurt and he pretty much ALWAYS had that watch on.

You can get a weak ass "and Gloria's too" watch for less.

Meh.

I loved Stereo Super Stores. My sister and I each got 150 bucks for Christmas one year and we both bought stereos. It was probably 1988 or so.

I picked an awesome Sanyo boombox that was on sale, I tried to get my sister to get the same one because it was half off.

It had dual cassette with auto reverse and dolby and a digital tuner.

SHE HAD TO HAVE a big crappy GPX brand POS with a record player and a digital....clock. Oh, and it had three, yes three tape decks.

She complained that mine was better from day one. Her's died just out of warranty and mine is still going strong in my brother's garage. Almost 30 years later.

We won a VW Eurovan for the grand opening of Incredible Universe
