This live version of Sultans of Swing always gets me. Especially the end. Mark Knopfler was hawt.

Telegraph Road is also a good one.

Yay! Steely Dan fans! I saw Steely Dan here in Portland summer before last. It was at the Schnitzer Concert Hall and I had floor seats. Great show!

I saw SD a few years back at the Gorge. Incredible concert/venue!

or Robin Trower

haha just realized he looks to be playing a 57 Strat like mine

One of my biggest regrets is never seeing Dire Straits live. I've heard they were awesome.

SRV. You pick the best one off this vid, I can't....but DAMN!

I'm not so big on the last track, and it's a shame that they blab over the solo on a couple of tracks.

There's a lot of incredible solos out there, but the last solo on Fade to Black by Metallica and the solo in Stairway to Heaven are probably my two all time favorites. I've heard them both countless times and they both still give me goosebumps every time.

One of the few female hard rockers:

Maybe crandc can explain why there are so few?

they aren't really that rare if you include metal. one just won a grammy

They are rare. We're all naming numerous guys who play lead (electric) guitar. I can name maybe 5 women guitarists (Lita Ford?).

Steve Howe in a 10+ minute guitar solo, otherwise known as "America." The song is a much jazzier remake of the Simon & Garfunkel classic by the same name.

Sounds like "Got the acid as we boarded the greyhound in Pittsburgh" to me.

And the 5 minute Simon and Garfunkel version:
