People fetishise defense. But tell me, who wins this ball game?

Team A:
Patrick Beverly
Tony Allen
Bruce Bowen
Dennis Rodman
Ben Wallace

Team B:
Steve Nash
Damian Lillard
James Harden
Carmelo Anthony
Dirk Nowitski

We all know team B would over-whelm team A with firepower.

Teams need balance. Defense and offense…..

That second team has been close to tried already.
Kd/kyrie couldnt win.
Kd/ booker hasnt won

Imbeed and harden couldnt win.

teams keep stacking offensive players together and it hasnt been working.
Yet teams like Milwaukie and gsw are top ten defensive champs.

how a look at the defensive and offensive slots of the past ten champs? Pretty sure defense rates higher?

Portland is playing Camara a lot because even as a rookie he's the best of their other forward options not named Grant. He's a good sized athlete who can defend, but his jumper looks like he's making best guesses with a trebuchet. His size allows the frontline to switch on screens which is valuable for team D, but I'm sure that management knows they will need to improve the position in time. That need was even more glaring when they traded for him.

Nedzad Sinanovic.

The Famous Neddy Z.

It might be my new favorite thing:

During the first full year of a multi-year rebuild, instead of enjoying the progress we watch of players, posters decide to make threads about how shitty our rookies are being before giving said rookie the time to learn the league and celebrating the positives of that rookie.

Like come on. Perspective is cool, find it.

Telfair got overhyped pretty bad in his rookie year. Bayless might make the top 10 list.

Nedzad Sinanovic.
But seriously, probably Qyntel Woods.

LaRue Martin
Wally Walker
Jeff Lamp
Walter Berry
Shawn Respert
Telfaire
Martell Webster
Meyers Leonard (hyped for years by Olshey)

I don't remember a lot of hype for Woods; maybe more after his summer league MVP's. Besides, he was a 21st pick when the draft only went 28 deep in a round.

This team needs to be careful with how many pieces it collects that can't shoot. We've already invested a lot in a PG that can't shoot.

Why is the Glove not on team A?

What exactly have they invested in Camara? Not resigning/trading away more expensive options in Watford Winslow and Little, I guess. Were any of those players difference makers in your eyes? They have Toumani on a 4 year 7.6M deal where the only guaranteed money is for this year. During that time frame we're all hoping for development from their youngins before contracts for Sharpe and Scoot can be reupped. I'm hopeful it's Joe's plan to clear salary space to lure top FAs more aligned with their timeline prior to going over again with Sharpe. The 3rd hope is for them to hit on more of their upcoming lotto picks and obviously they'll be prioritizing forwards. If Camara develops a reliable jumper, awesome! If not, it will be no big deal to part with him.

Lol. Freaking lol. Let's see.....team not winning so......Ooooo! I know! I think I'll denigrate a guy who has barely played in the league! 12 games is a true gauge of future performance, isn't it? I mean, our height disadvantage both pre and post injury storm shouldn't have a damned thing to do with it. He should excel no matter who he mans up with.

Feel soooo much better now.

In all seriousness, wha?

Btw advanced stats esp on defense for toumani are off the charts good. Like Herb Jones good. This guy is lockdown. He is exactly the kinda wing we have been desperate for. Low usage versatile defender who can also protect the rim.

All he needs to do is hit 37% of his catch and shoot threes and we absolutely do have a starting forward of the future.

IF WE CAN DO IT WITH SCOOT WE CAN DO IT WITH ANYONE.

Nope. He's fucking trash. 11 games has already told me he will NEVER EVER improve.

And yes, someone in this very thread thinks that. No, it's not me or you.

The funny thing is that Thybulle had the same knock and I swear that Camara is a better defender than Thybulle. And Tisse was All Defense. The refs already seem to respect his defense. He doesn’t get called for nearly the amount of fouls that I would expect on a rookie.

Good points on both

It's weird because every time he shoots I feel like it's going in.

his shot isnt bad at all, he just needs more reps.

I love Camara, aside from sharpe and scoot hes one of the younger players I enjoy watching. Just seems like more often than not hes in the right place at the right time or playing hard defense. As most said if he could get his percentages up a bit on his catch and shoot it'd be amazing but i think given time it will go up.

Camara has a ways to go on catch-n-shoot. He's shooting 23% on those possessions. Weird thing is about 1/3 of his three's are corner three's and he's only shooting 10% on those. Thybulle is shooting 55% on corner three's

Love his hustle and energy! Solid defensive instincts and good length, if he develops offensively he will be trouble. He’s here on the cheap for the next 4 years so we get to watch the cake bake as they say, worst case scenario is he isn’t what is needed and then move on.

Stupid fucking thread, but I suppose the concept needed to threshed out a bit.

We have a top 10 defense. This is incredibly rare for a young team, and TooMany Buckets is a big reason why.... and now he has supplanted Thy as a starter. Things, from that perspective, are definitely looking up.

What about the offense, and his statz?!?!? Our offense is worst-in-the-league bad, but not because we have players who can't play offense. This team has VERY little continuity from last year, and with the little continuity that we do have is mitigated by the newly made not-built-around-a-ball-dominated-Dame offense. Add that to the fact that we have FOUR players of our top 8 injured (and it's not like they were our worst 4 of the group). I doubt the rationality of anyone who thinks any team can thrive with 4 of top 8 missing under any conditions, but especially in this era of massive balance among the teams.

I'm not saying anything about what we invested in him. I'm just saying I don't see why people are excited about him.

Because your basis of excitement is: if it isn't IMMEDIATE AND GROUNDBREAKING you're always going to find faults.

Instead of:

Having excitement of WE SEE A PATH IF HE IMPROVES AND IM EXCITED.

So really, that's on you.

Go ahead and get excited about every player we ever acquire, because there's a chance they might tremendously improve. I like to have a reason to be excited though, hence, the original question. If you get excited about everyone, that doesn't answer the question, it just makes you a bit delusional.

Here's a reason.

This is the exact same thing I have wanted to see with Ayton running to the hoop starting from the 3-point line on the weak side.
Billups makes Zero use of Ayton's quickness as a big man.
How many times did we see this type of cutting again the in game?
