TPEs (Traded Player Exceptions)

Neither am I. Really wonder how Neil will spin this one after selling it so hard in the few other interviews he's done this summer.

At least get a pick out of it or something, come on.
Look, it takes two teams to make a trade. We made a lot of calls. We were really aggressive. Right until today, when it expired. But you can't make someone trade with you. Our owner was willing to take on salary to...Look, we're really lucky to have an owner like Paul, who's willing to spend to win. But we just didn't find the right fit with that exception. We knew all along it'd be difficult to use it. We were making calls, and receiving a lot of calls on it, but at that price point, you want it to fit with your roster. And right now, we're really happy with the group of guys we're bringing back. I think Seth will do a good job replacing Shabazz. We were really happy with what Shabazz gave to us last year. We knew it'd be an important piece to replace, and we think with Seth, we have...we have someone that can do that. Nik was a former lottery pick that hasn't found the right team yet. The right fit...Great shooter. Great shooter. Between him and Steph...(inaudible) .... yeah, between him and Seth, we have two guys who can knock down the 3 consistently. We struggled with knocking down shots in the playoffs, and I said all along, my focus was on bringing in guys who can knock down those big shots for us when they're open. They're great guys, will fit in well in the lockerroom, and will knock down those big shots when yo uget a Dame or CJ double teamed out there.
[Reporter] Sir, the question was, is this your handwriting?

@RR7 Bravo, sir! That made me laugh.

The more I read the more I started to think this was a real interview...

Last line was from Donald Sterling's deposition from a while back

"We were highly aggressive in our pursuit of using the trade exception, but our options were bifurcated between veterans who can contribute immediately and in the playoffs--and other teams that had no interest in dealing those that did meet that criteria. So we were faced with the option of using the exception to acquire a player that wouldn't benefit the current roster, or go to war with the guys we have, and Paul and I decided jointly to do the latter."

FTFY :bgrin:

I think this is the closest to his style.

Neil: "We got our impact veteran in Steph Curry."

Quick: "Neil, you misspoke, you meant to say Seth Curry."

Neil: "Wait, what?"

I feel like Rich Cho was more aggressive in making trades than Neil.
I don't especially like Neil or think he's even "above average". However, I do think he's MUCH better than Cho is/was.

You forgot the: "you know look" 10 Times bro:D

Raps are now about 3 mil above the tax line after the trade. We can take away CJ Miles and his 2 yr, 17 mil deal for our TPE if we wish. He doesn't move the needle enough for me.

Yeah, I'd need something in return for taking him, and they're unlikely to pay us with OG or siakam.

What is there, about a week left on this before it expires? Maybe with the Kawaii trade teams will start talking other trades.

Says a lot of Neil Olshit that a trade needs to happen to wake him up before the tpe expires .smh. What a pussy GM

Hey, I have a Honda Accord for sale. It's valued at $1000 but you can have it for $2000. Wouldn't you consider that a good deal?

I know you're in Germany, but using "pussy" as a derogatory word is frowned upon now.

After almost one year talking of what a great "asset" the tpe is, the tpe still unused. The clock is ticking Neil...

He won’t use it... he just lied to buy him more time... he is a con man... constantly moving the goal post.

I know it’s not a good attitude but even if it’s not for any one significant, I want the TPE to be used just to make it look like they’are trying. Understand it’s not my money, just would make me “feel” better.

Buy him more time for what? That’s what makes this even more frustrating. He didnt even need to bullshit the fans. His job is safe!

In all seriousness, did anybody think he was going to use it? The payroll situation is just too big a mess.

Not using TPE's is pretty common, and it likely wouldn't move the needle anyway, so it won't be too surprising if he lets it expire. The abnormal thing was talking it up as a primary avenue toward roster improvement. That's just creating expectation and masking financial issues.

a KLove trade with cleveland and subsequently, us agreeing to use the TPE for korver makes the most sense to me, not as an asset gathering mechanism, but the additional cap relief of korver's 2 years and $15 million to sweeten the deal for cleveland outside of just matching Love's salary. if it is to be used at all. NO has a history with korver he mentioned in an interview about maximizing talent and character.

A better way to save money would be something like this:

CLE Gets: 2019, 2021 POR 1sts, Al-Farouq Aminu, Caleb Swanigan
ATL Gets: Meyers Leonard
POR Gets: Kevin Love, Miles Plumlee (TPE)

That deal saves Cleveland $15M, because we send put $10.5M in bad salary to ATL and take back $12.5M in bad salary with our TPE.

This may be dumb but I think NO’s best trait is the draft and I don’t want him to give up picks very often.

How else are we gonna get better in the next 4 years?
Drafting the right guys? I mean I haven’t been as high on Collins as others but if he became a good PF/C they would be better. If in next years draft they find the “one” it could change things for them too.

does that work cap wise? cleveland only takes back around $9 million while sending out around $25?
