Dame has repeatedly vouched for Vando. Chauncey has been singing his praises since last yr (check out the postgame after a Minny game early last season).

Thybulle is also a Goodwin client and has worked out with Dame over the summer in Phoenix. Outside of Mikal Bridges, Matisse is probably a guy Dame most supports bringing in.

It would be an upgrade if we were moving GP2 and Winslow. None of the 4 can shoot but yes I would rather have Vanderbilt and Thybulle on length alone.
I think Matisse is ridiculously good on ball. Vando is terrific as help. But it would be tough to hide both on the other end.

To POR:
- Korkmaz
- Thybulle
- Vanderbilt

To UTA:
- Keon
- Winslow
- minimum player from Philly
- seconds

To Philly:
- Hart

Does that work? We get further below the tax and have an extra roster spot as is to absorb a guy.

That seems like an overcorrection on wing defense (especially weak shooting wing defense- could you ever play Vando, Thybulle, and GP2 at the same time in non-defensive-only possessions, or even two of the three?), but overall, that's not terrible value.
Oh it's not my idea. I think if Vando can be had for Justise, Keon and a couple of SRPs then those SRPs should come from us and Josh should be traded for depth in the post.

This would be two separate trades and would also give us the room under the tax line to pick up someone off of the buyout market if we wanted.

If Philly's giving up Paul Reed in a Hart deal, I want him here.

I'd agree, although I've only seen Reed briefly a couple of times.

really don't want Korkmaz, at all. And unless Utah want's him, for some unknown reason, or it's necessary for matching salary, I'd keep Keon if the Blazers are trading Winslow

if Portland is trading Hart, Winslow, and 3 seconds, I'd think Vanderbilt, Thybulle, and Reed should be the least the Blazers get back. Be nice to get one of Milton or Niang but that might be asking too much....actually it's not if Philly really wants Hart

Both? Kinda redundant, no?

Seems like an overcorrection.

bot sure if they are redundant but I get your point. Thybulle leans more to a wing only then Vando. Vando leans for towards bigs but neither can shoot much

Assuming Hart is traded, I could see Thybulle working well as a starter that plays less than 24 MPG. It might be good to use him in lineups with Dame, Anfernee, and Nurk in lineups that try to avoid switching. There would be plenty of shooting on the floor.

Gary and Vando in a small-ball second unit that presses and switches could be fun. One of Dame or Ant, Jerami, and one of Winslow, Sharpe, or Nas could work well in a unit like that.

Zach Lowe and Tim McMahon said the Rockets were really close to trading Christian Wood to the Blazers in the Neil Olshey era. Mentioned it in the context of Josh Hart being a Mavericks target...

i just dont see the fit there. Does he want to come off the bench? He’s a good player but we’re not starting him over grant. Especially with all the Vando rumors

He's coming off the bench in Dallas already. Nothing new. The fit is he gives us size and someone who can run the floor. I think he'd fit well in Chauncey's system.

Agree. We have no need for one way bigs who can't switch onto guards or protect the rim. I also have pause in trading for a guy who has previously bitched about his role and a guy who Dallas wants to trade just a yr after getting him.

Yeah, I think Christian Wood is the perfect type of player to get a lot of minutes at the 5 in Chauncey's system. I'd rather have him getting minutes there than Nurk.

What if we don't land Vando? Seems like the competition for him is strong

I think the idea is to move Grant to SF. Not sure I agree but he does have better handles than I originally thought.

Grants numbers as a 3 are dreadfully worse than at the 4. Maybe the team thinks it can work…they know more than I do but I’d be surprised. My personally opinion on what I’ve heard through the grapevine is that there’s a very good chance Vando will be in Portland. Who knows though anything can happen

My honest prediction is that we get Vando, likely for Justise, second rounders and maybe even Keon, then we get help at the 5 and other depth in return for Josh. The interesting thing will be if it's just help that makes it so we can play Nurk less minutes against really bad match ups or if Josh nets us someone who makes dumping Nurk very necessary and we get very little in return for Nurk.

If we acquire someone that is better in Chauncey's system than Nurk, someone we intend to play more minutes at the 5 than Nurk, then we have to trade Nurk because he will become toxic and if we think his trade value is low to negative now, it will only go down if he's considered our second C.

The reason I am not convinced is you have teams in the east who want him. (Boston, Philly, New York) if you were Danny would you trade him to a division rival instead?

If you think our rim protection is bad now, wait till you see wood at the 5!

He gets just a little more blocks right now than Nurk does and in Chauncey's system the guy would be able to be in the right positions to block or alter shots just due to his mobility compared to Nurk's. I realize both guys have a similar problem and that is that they don't always play the most inspired ball but we've seen what Nurk being mentored by Dame and coached by Chauncey looks like while we haven't seen that from Wood.

Obviously it could be worse than what we have right now but what we have right now isn't working and if we could dump Nurk and Wood didn't work out at all then we'd at least not have the contract hanging around.

speaking of rim protection cause me to look up how Portland ranks in opponent FG% based upon shooting zones:

* at the rim (o-3') - 11th (but rank 30th for % of FGA at rim)
* 3-10' - 12th
* 10-16' - 9th
* 16-3P - 6th
* 3P - 20th (%of FGA's from three - 9th)

% of 2pt FG's assisted - 26th
% of 3pt FG's assisted - 18th
