Trade Deadline Predictions

Welcome to our community

When's the damn trade deadline? Never before has it taken so long to get to the damn deadline! I'm just waiting for something to happen so that watching the Blazers will be interesting again. A major trade or a coaching change are the only things that will make this season interesting.

Rodney Hood’s per 36 is pretty much exactly what we need at the wing. 21 pts and 38% from 3 and that’s in that ugly offense at Utah. He needs to improve his rebounding and assists numbers but I bet put in the right role and system that would be easy.
Why do you assume this last part? Utah is all about stressing rebounds and assists.

Not saying I would turn him down for the right price but this sounds more like hopeful thinking that he will change.

The good news is it's earlier this year - before the all star break.

The bad news is it's not until February 8.

Rodney Hood is being booed in Utah for missing shots.

Could use a change of scenery, and we could use his scoring -- (doesn't bring much else, though). I'd like to see him rebound the ball a bit better.

I thought he would be better. I am surprised he is not. Money wise we are talking about 2.3 so I am not sure who Utah would want. Shabazz matches up....but no

6'7 but only 206.....I think he needs to be a SF and right now he is too thin for that.

I just think they asked a bit too much of him starting the year and if he was given a consistent and more specific role he could improve in those areas. His role in the NBA should be as a 3rd or 4th option that spaces the floor with his shooting and on the defensive end uses his length and athleticism to disrupt passing lanes, crash the boards and get the team into transition.

It seems he’s been relegated to bench minutes but the expectations for him coming into the year from Jazz fans was to grow into a larger role similar to what Hayward did in his contract year.

Today's silly trade idea:
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycefmww8

Blazers get Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle
LAL get Aminu, Davis, Vonleh, Pat, Jake, 2nd rounder.

Monetary Considerations:
Saves us $4.2 mil THIS season which should be enough to get us under the tax line (I think).
Gets them $5.5 mil more space next year for FAs, which is a BIG DEAL.

Talent Considerations:
Next year they have Aminu instead of Clarkson. They'll lose Randle either way.
We get to overpay Randle and get another overpaid/poor defense/short dude who can shoot and create. :)

Today's silly trade:
Bazz, Noah, Pat for Adrian Bradley

Bradley and his 11 PER hasn't worked out for Pistons, but should be perfect for PDX (IMHO).
They're looking for a PG, and Bazz is a really good one.

A 3 guard lineup of Dame/CJ/Bradley would be amazing.

Can we make it Layman instead of Pat?

DET would then need to find someone to take Reggie Jackson off their hands. You say they need a PG, which is true, but they are already paying Jackson $16 million + Ish Smith $6 million. That's a lot of money sitting on the bench backing up Shabazz.

Going off of

embattled point guard Reggie Jackson went down with a severe ankle sprain that could keep him out of the lineup until April.

3. Avery Bradley

Bradley has not lived up to the expectations in Detroit. The Pistons don’t have enough talent around him to allow Bradley to play to his fullest potential. But just because he might not make sense in Detroit doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a hot commodity among the NBA elite looking for a player who can help put them over the top.

Might be because he slapped that phone outta the old white guy's hand.
Since you generally mention race only when it's relevant, are you suggesting that if he had slapped a phone out of a black guy's hand, Jazz fans would have been more OK with it?

No, they booed him because he's a hoodlum: his last name is literally "Hood" :)

I actually think yes. Mormons literally put racism in their book. A book that was written by a horse thief who was killed by an angry, Christian mob for running for president against James K Polk.

2 Nephi 5:21-25

21 And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. (So my skin tone is supposed to be a curse from God.)

22 And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.

23 And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done.

24 And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey.

25 And the Lord God said unto me: They shall be a scourge unto thy seed, to stir them up in remembrance of me; and inasmuch as they will not remember me, and hearken unto my words, they shall scourge them even unto destruction.

Yea the Book of Mormon is pretty fucked but then again the Christian Bible also says it’s ok you beat your slave, male or female, with a rod as long as they get up in a day or two lol.

I was raised Baptist Christian. I know it inside and out. Not to derail the thread but that god can't be prayed to by master as well as slave. He's gotta choose one.

You've already done that well before this post.

It looks like you've also derailed at least one other thread today too.

Say what you want because I don't really GAF, but I answered a question that was in the thread. I give long answers sometimes. :dunno:

Also, posting something contrary to the OP isn't derailing the thread but go ahead... I post WTF I want within forum rules. Sooooo balls...

Ideally, both. A trade that gets us under the tax threshold, but still nets us
Fournier, or some similar player. However, it's not likely to happen.

Probably sellers. We have some ending contracts which
can hopefully be used to get us under the tax.

There’s also the possibility of trading a contract to get under the tax (ie Davis) while also getting a talent back that could contribute in the same deal.

So something like Davis for Hezonja

We tried to be a seller last year with the Plums deal, but that turned out to be both.

I don't expect much.

We all know Dame and CJ aren't getting moved and the rest of our players contracted past this year are clear net negatives right now on their current deals minus Aminu. And although they've played well Connaughton, Napier and Davis are expirings and will only fetch good 2nd's at best and they're bird rights are worth more to us than that.

Playoffs are also shaky right now and this draft is deep enough at the top that I don't see them moving a potential lottery pick in a deadline deal. This also makes it very unlikely we see ET moved. Maybe if SAC would be willing to do a Turner+19' LAL 2nd for Koufos+Temple type deal, but I doubt it.

As far as Mirotic goes, I wouldn't give up a first for him. Only 1 year left on his contract so you're committing to re-signing him after next year and I'm not sure I'd be ready to do that when we still have a decision to make on Nurk/still evaluating Zach's long-term fit.

I dont' think Utah is going to want to either, but still think that they'll be able to put together a better offer than us without including one. Hood and Exum are more appealing than anything we have to offer.
