Kravstov hurt his trade value when he opted to play back home instead of the AHL.. Now it's just a matter of Drury sifting through all the offers made by other teams hearing of Vitali's plight looking for a soft Russian player.

If Kravtsov put on 20 lbs of muscle, get a little tougher, he's got the hockey IQ to be useful. However, here, he has no chance. Cuylle and Othmann are built for the NHL playoffs. Mc-Barker looks like he's a keeper. There is no future for him here.

Ottawa has 2 2nds next year. Maybe they'd trade Motte with one of them to us.

Kane announces he will accept a trade to Toronto or the rangers. Guess he’s going to Toronto as I do t see how we fit him unless Chicago pays his whole salary and I do t think the rules allow that

we currently have more cap space than Toronto, we would need to find a trade partner and trade Goodrow if they really want to acquire Kane

They don't, a team can only retain 50%. I think the only way Kane to us works now is if a 3rd team got involved and also eat some of his cap hit - per the rule that is allowed. So we'd get him at 33% or something less than 50%. I just don't see that happening, and would have to guess it is Toronto or bust.

Truth is Toronto doesn't really need Kane though, they have plenty of O, they need D and we'll see about their goalie. But if they can get Kane for cheap as the only team in the mix, why not I guess.

per Cap Friendly.com

Kane's Remaining Daily Cap Hit

: $3,291,892
if Chicago retains 50% then we are on the hook for $1,645,946.

We have CURRENT CAP SPACE

: $1,150,239

Wonder what 15 teams are on Goodrow's no trade list as his Remaining Daily Cap Hit

: $1,141,712

if you traded Kratsov and Gauthier and have Chicago retain 50% that would work salary cap wise...im sure we would have to throw in a pick or two or a minor leaguer/prospect but it could work

Kravtsov, Jones and say a Berard. Chicago should take that and run. Kane has sucked this year.

Trading Gauthier is moronic. his game is built for the playoffs and he’s improving.

not sure cap wise that works..only reason i mentioned Gauthier is his cap plus Kravtsov works with Chicago eating 50%...

Who are you bumping to the 4th line if they did get Kane?

Here’s the lay of Rangers-land.

Current Cap Space $1.15M
Deadline Cap Space $1.6M
Data per CapFriendly

Based off CapFriendly, the Rangers can easily make a deal for a player making anywhere between $750K to $1.5M without trading someone from the roster.
They can also take on more salary depending on other moves such as trading Vitali Kravtsov, who makes $875K. If he’s dealt, whether in the same trade or a separate one, the Rangers can take up to $2.5M in salary.

Trade Bait:

  • Vitali Kravtsov, forward (pending RFA)
  • Zac Jones, defenseman (pending RFA)
  • 2023 Draft Picks
    • first-round
    • second-round
    • third-round
    • sixth-round (2)
    • seventh-round
Realistic Trade Targets:

Nick Bjugstad, Arizona Coyotes: The 30 year-old center is big at 6-6′ and 210 pounds. He’s recorded 23 points in 54 games this season and only has a $900K cap hit. The Rangers don’t need to have the Yotes retain salary to make this move and it shouldn’t cost more than a third-round pick for the pending UFA. It’s also worth noting that he played for Gallant in Florida.

Nick Ritchie, Arizona Coyotes: This 27 year-old winger plays that nasty style you need in the playoffs. This season, he’s notched 21 points in 51 games but has a decent cap hit of $2.5M. Drury would need to ask the Yotes to retain salary on the pending UFA to make this one work.

Sam Lafferty, Chicago Blackhawks: The Rangers are going to be up against the cap next season, and they may want to look at low-cost players with term. Enter Lafferty, who has one year left at $1.15M AAV. The 27 year-old forward can play center and has 19 points in 45 games for the rebuilding Hawks.

Noel Acciari, St. Louis Blues: The 31 year-old center is having a decent year in the face-off circle at 54.3%. He could certainly add to the Rangers’ depth and the pending UFA only has a $1.25M cap hit. Acciari has 18 points in 52 games this season.

What a potential deal looks like:

The Rangers for the most part have the cap space and assets to add any one of these players. Aside from Lafferty, we are talking fourth-line rentals that shouldn’t cost the team more than a third-round pick.

With Kravtsov wanting to be moved he could be included in one of these deals. That being said, the acquiring team would likely be sending back a mid-round pick along with the rental in such a trade.

One more big swing?
When the Rangers made their big trade last week, Patrick Kane openly expressed his disappointment.

“It’s not like the happiest I’ve been to hear about a trade,” Kane said Friday via Mark Lazerus. “If things are going to happen, that was a team I was definitely looking at. It seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal.”

So what if Kane, who has a full no-move clause, only wants to go to the Rangers? Is there a path to acquire him? The answer is yet, but it’s complex.

In speaking with PuckPedia, if the Rangers were to send down Julien Gauthier or trade Vitali Kravtsov for a draft pick soon, they could have about $2.7 million in space for March 3.

They would then need the Hawks to eat 50% of Kane’s cap hit, plus get a third team to eat another 50% to drive down AAV from $10.5M to $2.625M.

It’s crazy and highly unlikely, but cap-wise actually possible. I mean, can you imagine this lineup for the playoffs:

  • Kreider – Zibanejad – Tarasenko
  • Panarin – Trocheck – Kane
  • Lafreniere – Chytil – Kakko
  • Vesey – Goodrow – Gauthier
Of course, that definitely means the Rangers will be trading their other first-round pick in 2023 and much more to get this deal done. That being said, if the Rangers trade Kravtsov to the Blackhawks for future considerations this week, well then the game is on.

Kane, 34, has 35 points in 48 games this season on a really bad Blackhawks teams.

I think the by far more likely scenario is we add a good solid 4th line player to add depth, and pair with Goodrow to form a great 4th line, and give us great forward depth overall.

If somehow Kane forces his way here, and I think that is what it will take - Kane saying make me a Ranger and even then it won't be easy - I will focus on that when it happens.

Leafs just added O'Reilly cause they don't have enough players that can win a faceoff. Drury better get off his ass and get us an elite, 4th line center in the dot or that will come back to bitch slap this team playoff time.

Like I said, the Rangers move is going to make teams in the East panic. Seems the way they are sizing up the Rangers is beating the crap out of them in the faceoff circle. Just like always.

Plus due to the ridiculous NHL playoff format, the Atlantic bracket is crazy.

Round 1 - Isles/Pens/Caps/Panthers at Bruins, Leafs/Lightning; Round 2 - Leafs/Lightning winner at Bruins - good luck with all that.

The NHL is ass backwards with their absurd playoff format, which is why you are locked into getting Leafs/Lightning in round 1 again.

Did you feel that way when the playoffs were all divisional opponents until the conference finals? These playoffs are pretty much the same format with a small twist.

I prefer they go back to seeding 1-8 in the conference and re-seed after each round.

Exactly Grey. Fairest way - either seed 1-8 in each conference, and re-seed after each round (which is the fairest). Or if they are obsessed with their bracket challenge, seed 1-8 in each conference, and then 1-8 winner plays 4-5 winner, and 2-7 winner plays 3-6 winner. Either way is a much fairer better format than today's ridiculous format.

The East is so deep, you could make the case 6 of the top 8 or 9 teams are in the East. As good as the Rangers look I think they could use one more piece. You know the Devs, Bruins, TB, Canes are all going to add something. Drury needs to stay aggressive and add one more piece. With a tight cap, and having to re-sign Miller, Chytil, Laf they need to go for it.

Since Columbus is just a dumb organization and they will waste the rest of Jenner's career. Monahan at half retained would be my target. On the 4th line he would be perfect. Last year of his contract. You could dump Kravtsov and Jones for him and are well within your rights to ask for 1 or 2, second round picks.

We agree here - the Rangers need another piece added. Be it a big swing for Kane if he says NYR or bust, or a clear 4th line upgrade to pair with Goodrow. We need one more upgrade to be right there with any team, and then let the chips fall where they may.

The Rangers will likely make another move before the March 3 deadline. According to The Post’s Larry Brooks, Nick Bjugstad is on the Rangers’ radar, but the Coyotes center is apparently drawing a lot of interest around the league. An upgrade at the fourth-line center spot, as well as another middle-six piece, should be on the table.

Re the trade: Motte has far more value than Gauthier, who probably would have become scratch for playoffs. Don’t think Drury is done. Probably still a piece shy up front and/or on fourth line. Bjugstad among those on radar but has drawn heavy interest around the league.
