With the cap limits he faced Drury has done an unbelievable job improving this team for the playoffs. It is still up to the players on the ice to get it done but on paper this team is markedly better than last year's. The young players had a taste of what's involved in a long playoff run and now have Cup winners in Kane and Tarasenko on board. Drury even improved the #6 dman size with Mikkola and Harpur. GG wanted 100 points to ensure a playoff spot and the Rangers get there with 12 more wins so the not making the playoff crowd can now pivot to poor playoff performance.

Yup. I think Drury has done a great job clearing every penny he needed to fit Kane in. The only "risk" i see to this cap dancing is if Kravtsov finally figures it out in VAN and we got so little for him because he was being moved to clear cap space. Other than that, the picks given up for for years down the road, so it's not like we "mortgaged the future".

From here on out, Gallant needs to deliver and make no mistake, anything less than ECF is a poor performance in the playoffs.

Excellent maneuvering by Drury. I would agree with the "risk" regarding Kravtsov but at the same time the Rangers do have other forwards in development that even if Vitali becomes top 6 forward it won't reflect poorly on the Rangers for trading him.
They are definitely taking their swing this year. I still think they have some vulnerabilities on the defensive side and 'sand-paper' as Fan put it. I was watching the end of the Bruins/Flames game last night and was reminded just how good of a team the Bruins are...and WOW are they fast...like 80% of that team can fly on the ice. They are playing out of this world and I can't stand those two fucking goalies with their post game celebrations.....whatever, Im digressing.
Here's to hoping the Rangers STAY HEALTHY and put together another big run come April/May and god-willing June.

I agree with your last statement on Gallant, and I may even say getting to the SCF is the baseline considering we made the ECF last season. But that is why this is so difficult, look at the East. To get to the ECF we need to beat NJ and CAR. To get to the SCF add in one of BOS/TOR/TB. That is so crazy difficult. Again, could lose in round 1 to NJ and no one would be shocked or consider that a big upset.

At days end it is what it is, and results are what matters, so I agree, but man the NHL playoffs are a tough road, especially the East this year.

Gallant will be gone next season. Kane will sign a one year deal here next season for like 2.5. He’s made enough money. I think he wants to play New York.

I think he's going to end up in Buffalo on a 4-5y deal for like 5-6m. I'm sure he'd like to stay here but i don't know that we can fit him, nor would he be willing to go that cheap. We'd have to trade Kakko or Lafreniere with Othmann coming.

I'm more worried about NJ in round one than Carolina in round two.

They both worry me...lol. I do think NJ is a tough matchup for us. They do seem to have our #. My hope is in the playoffs we are at their level, not like the regular season where every game against us is a SCF game for the Devs.

I'd much rather have Carolina. Because Carolina is so aggressive and just throws the puck on the net, it forces our dumbass forwards and defenseman to concentrate on defense and counter punch. Which is how they should play all the time because when they go on the offensive, they suck and let up glorious scoring chances constantly.

Weird that Ottawa traded for Chychryn but i guess it's for the next few years.

Yotes get a top 5 pick. Wonder if they will ever figure it out

Horribly run franchise....I can't imagine they will be a playoff caliber team any time soon.

If I was the owner of Arizona I would fire their GM today. If the dumb fuck GM had traded with the Rangers last year he would’ve got a lot more.

You guys may get your wish of Carolina over NJ in round 1 - NJ just 1 point back. I rather play NJ, but we'll see.

Both teams are able opponents that we lead the season matchups but there is no playoff series tougher than the run for the Cup. There is still a lot of hockey left for the two teams to be playing at their pace. With all the "Gallant better win it all or he's gone!" nonsense from posters who didn't even consider the team playoff worth last year, the Rangers are 7 points off the pace, lots of hockey left. Unless the Rangers absolutely crap the bed in the first round there's no way GG is going anywhere, he's had the most successful start as a coach in Rangers' history.

If we bow out in the 1st round, which is not at all impossible given the quality of opposition, you don't think Gallant will be under pressure? Drury has worked his ass off to get enough cap space to bring in Tarasenko and Kane and a 1st round loss would be epic failure.

I don't see Gallant being on the hot seat this year period. IF they don't advance in the playoffs and IF they get off to a poor/slow start next year then maybe they would consider moving on from him...maybe. But then the question becomes who is his replacement?
Gallant has gotten a lot out of this team so far and he has an excellent arsenal upfront. He needs to fix the defensive lapses though.

It really is a great discussion because of the work Drury has done improving the team, and the quality of the first round opponent - CAR or NJ.

On the one hand to lose in the first round after all these moves would be an epic fail. But on the other hand can you really get on anyone if they lose in 6 or 7 to the higher seeded Devs or Canes in the first round - who would each be a top 5 team in the NHL - that is difficult to do.

I would tend to lean with Grey that Gallant is at least back to start next season. Only caveat I put on it is if Drury feels pressure from Dolan, so he makes Gallant the scapegoat.

The way the playoffs are setup nothing is guaranteed. For example fair or not either Toronto or Tampa is going out in round one. The same for either Carolina/NJ or the Rangers. These are all very good teams.

Bruins loading up. Went out and got Bertuzzi from the Wings. Love his game, can pop in 20-30 goals with a physical presence.

As I said. East is completely panicking over what the Rangers did.

Unless you come up with a better resume coach this coach easily survives this season and next no matter what happens in these playoffs

It is truly amazing how awesome the East is. Good for whichever team makes the SCF. It is loaded. As mentioned, 6 of the top 7 teams may be in the East.

For the record, unfortunately I don't think it will be us. I think the physical nature of the playoffs, especially with these East teams, will wear us down and beat our skill.

In some ways, the fact that they got Kane the Rangers would have been better off dealing for O'Reilly instead of Tara from the Blues. His game fits the playoffs perfectly, and he adds what we lack.

Agree ROR would have been a great add. We definitely went for skill over brawn. The B's adding Bertuzzi, Hathaway and Orlov makes them even tougher to play against, which can be a struggle for us if we don't adapt to the physicality.

Tired of the Bruins. All those players they’ve acquired over the past year sucked on previous teams. Pasternak is good but one shoulder by Trouba and you can say goodbye to him. If the Rangers can’t beat them with this roster idk what it’s going to take. Tired of hearing the Bruins, the Lightning, blah blah blah. About time they win a fucking cup. This is the reason why I went from watching 82 games to maybe 20 + playoffs - tired of let downs. They have a roster better than 2013-2014 they need to fucking win

Agree with you on Boston, but I'd take it because that would mean we'd be in the ECF against them. I'll take my chances if you say we get through the first two rounds, which is certainly no guarantee.

There is 0.00% chance Gallant will be back if they don’t make the playoffs. Drury is a mean prick. He won’t take the fall.

Would you stop already. They are a LOCK for the playoffs. Your nonsense is unbearable sometimes Mr. Titanic. Please do not post if/when the Rangers make the playoffs and go a long way.

The Rangers will finish 3rd place in the Met and play the Devs or Canes. That is how it will go.
