I'm bored and late to the trade party but I will give it my best shot.

Trade: Harkless & Leonard for #4 and Parsons

Trade: CJ & Swanigan for Love & #8

Draft: #4 Jaren Jackson or Mikal Bridges....#8 Miles Bridges or Bamba or Jackson/Bridges if either fall to #8...#24 Omari Spellman or higher ranked guy if he falls. Long and athletic type.

And no, I have no idea if Memphis or Cleveland would take either deal. For Memphis, it all depends on how bad they want to rid themselves of Parsons contract and with Harkless in deal at least they get some talent back.

Memphis isn't swapping Parsons for equal salary of equal length for equally mediocre players and giving up the 4th pick to do it.

Like I said, it all depends how badly they want to dump him. If you had the 4th pick and wanted to dump Leonard that bad, would you take on equally bad contacts? I don't see any team giving them a stud and taking back Parsons contract...other than Olshey of course.

L
CJ is a sure thing one-on-one ISO ball chucker that is undersized and doesn’t play defense making 25-30 mil the next 3 years... the number 4 pick obviously is not a sure thing, but at the same time top 5 picks are where the highest probably of getting superstars come from... you have to assume some risk for reward... McLillard is a dead end... time to change direction a bit and give this city a chance... and the idea of Memphis trading the 4th pick for Meyers and Harkless IS asinine

Thanks for the tune-up KeepOnRollin. Did not remember this.
Trade machine fails the trade without us sending out matching salary.

Is there a way to get Richardson?
He would be a good role playing starting SF for our lineup.

Yes Josh Richardson.
Having a hard time juggling so many open pages on my cell phone

In theory he does until July 1st but actually there is some new rule that it wouldn't work as he has an extension that kicks in and he makes 9 MIL next year. Some CBA thing. @hoopsjock @BonesJones or @PtldPlatypus can fill in the details.
For an extension (aka Poison Pill) salary for the team trading the player is the current year. For the team receiving him, incoming salary is the total next year (aka year one of the extensuon)

?
Can a TPE be traded for a draft pick? Future draft pick?

Read the CBA faq, could not find the answer. But my guess is no to both. Hope I'm wrong.

I’m far from an expert on the CBA, but I’ve been under the assumption that a draft pick could be packaged with a TPE, but not a player.

The TPE isn't a tradeable entity. Its created by trading extra salary out, and it can used to bring extra salary in. You don't trade TPEs.

Please any nba team listening, we as a City will send you a big Christmas card if you trade a 2nd round pick for Meyers Leonard.

After Wilson Chandler opts in:

Denver Gets: Evan Turner
Portland Gets: Kenneth Faried, Wilson Chandler, Darrell Arthur, Future 2nd

Denver would save apx. $16.2M while losing only Chandler, which would allow them to resign Barton, have MPJ or Turner as a backup, and avoid the tax.

We'd gain salary, but also get better. And all those guys expire next year so we'd be out of Turner's contract.

Arthur and Faried could be valuable at the deadline as $20M in expiring deals (which we don't really have) which could allow us to make a trade more easily by sending picks for a star.
After this, trade Faried, Swanigan, a 1st and a 2nd for Tobias Harris. Also trade Meyers, Aminu, and two future 2nds for Wesley Matthews.

Lillard / Simons / Baldwin
McCollum / Matthews / Trent
Harkless / Chandler / Layman
Harris / Collins / Arthur
Nurkic / Davis / Meyers / Papagiannis

I actually really like that squad. The bench would be very solid defensively, and we would have major salary coming off the books next offseason.

Acquired players can't be packaged to another destination if my understanding is good.

Hornets and Blazers swap slop.

Leonard, Harkless, & Layman for
Marvin Williams & MKG

Don’t use TPE before July 1, offer full MLE to Tyreke Evans in a 3 years, $25M deal and secure him as our starting wing.

We need both SF and PF.

Targets for PF:

Markieff Morris - makes $8.6M next season so can be had with the $13M TPE. We would probably need to add a sweetener but Washington need saving from cap hell so maybe not much. Maybe agree to also take Jodie Meeks with the trade exception, that saves them $13M and send them a second round pick. Should be good. They would be then able to use full MLE on a longer deal (Kieff expires next year) and still not pay tax.

Thaddeus Young - fits under TPE this season but not next so would need to be acquired via trade with his $13.7M salary. We’d need to send Meyers, Layman and Swanigan but that wouldn’t do the deal. Maybe send them Meyers, Aminu and a first round protected pick - they get a replacement for the next year and additional incentive of the pick and we get rid of 1 year of Meyers deal.

Khris Middleton - he’s more of a 3 but could well provide scoring, energy and defense at 4. We do not really have the assets to get him in a simple way but we can offer several incentives: take Snell’s behemoth contract with TPE in a separate deal (that’s around $11M a year for THREE more season), offer them Aminu and Harkless for Middleton plus throw in a first round pick. That saves them about $10M next year, saves them $11M in the next two as well and saves them from luxury tax. A first round pick is an asset they can use to offload Dellavedova for example and then they’d have tons of money in FA to surround Giannis with talent.

How exactly will we have a full MLE...

Don’t you have non-taxpayer’s MLE if you are under the tax line? We will be below $123M on July 1 if we renounce Davis and Napier I believe. I think tax apron will be at $129M so you need to be at around $120M to be able to sign a player for full MLE as I believe the crucial part is to not exceed the tax apron AFTER the signing, right?

I don’t have full understanding of these rules though. Might be wrong.

You have to be under the tax after using it, and you're forgetting about Nurk's and Davis' cap holds.
