You have to be under the cap after using it, and you're forgetting about Nurk's and Davis' cap holds.
Under luxury tax, not under the cap, right?

I think we might renounce Davis early into FA. We can’t pay him. We should also renounce Napier.

It will be hard to get to full MLE but not impossible. If we are planning on using TPE on Morris or other power forward, we might also let Aminu go to save $7.5M. That would bring us well below tax apron.

We can only use TPE after free agency though. That puts Thad Young out of reach (I think he already is) but makes Kieff possible. Get him.

I meant tax, yes.

Nurkic has a $7M cap hold, so we don't have room. You might have to stay under too, I'm not quite sure.

Ideal scenario in a year or two is that Anfernee is ready to step in as our starting SG and we trade CJ for Jabari Parker. Bucks could definitely use more shooting.

Not quite. This ideal scenario is ....
Dame replaces Isaiah Thomas
CJ replaces Joe Dumars
Simons replaces Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson
Nurk replaces Bill Laimbeer
Collins replaces Rasheed Wallace/Rodman

Blazers win back-to-back championships. That's the ideal scenario!

Using the full MLE would hard-cap the Blazers, meaning there would be no way to use the TPE or resign Nurk.

It's not a realistic tool for the Blazers this summer

Yeah fuck the full MLE. The problem is most teams will only have the tax MLE so we’ll have to beat all the other playoff squads to sign guys, and we all know what kind of destination Portland is in the eyes of free agents.

Our best tools are our TPEs. Not many teams are in the position to add the kind of salary Portland could theoretically add.

Great, A smaller back court than we already have.

With Jokic getting an extension that goes into effect immediately, Denver will have to make a move with some of their expirings if they want to bring back Barton/not dive deep into tax. Chandler should be there for the taking.

I hope he got along with Nurk

Is it one or the other? I’d love to add another Harkless caliber for free (for us fans at least)

I just picture one of them not being happy about it. What I really want is Harkless to take the bull by the horns and play so well that everyone knows the SF position is his.

Yeah I think Chandler would be OK coming off the bench anyway, he’s done it before.

I want Moe playing for a contract, a year early. Keep that intensity up. Seriously though, this should be Moe's break out year.

I'd love to have both Moe and Chandler. That's good diversity for the position. Plus Chandler can play shooting guard.
We need that. And E.T. becomes even more expendable.

OK, now I'm going to obsess on getting Chandler, LOL

Whay I love about it is they could reward is by giving us expirings for a bad contract:

Chandler (TPE), Faried, and Arthur for Turner
Or
Chandler (TPE) and Faried for Meyers and Layman

Either way they save $15-$16M, which is huge, while we get better at a position of need and shed salary.

If we could do the ET trade, there'd be a possibility we could have max cap space next year, provided we move Harkless at some point and Nurk signs the QO.

Add Robert Covington to the list. After July 1, we can absorb his deal through a TPE, and Sixers might need to dump salary (that SA won't want in return) for Kawhi.

I have no interest in Chandler. Wanted him instead of Afflalo 3 yrs ago, no use for him now.

Agreed. Covington is at the top of my list.

He does have like 4 yrs 50 mil left beginning this upcoming season however.

Yes, but he is one of the few wings that really fills the 3D role well. 27, so just entering his prime, all defensive team, 37% on 7 attempts/game . . . He is one of the few guys I have seen who I think could legitimately push Harkless out of the starter spot.

I agree. Moe's advanced numbers are similar to RoCo's but I just don't see him ever becoming consistent. It sucks, because Moe is actually 3 yrs younger.

Lets hope that helps the cause for Philly needing to trade him. Unless SA wants him in return.
Either way it sways me to want Neil to wait until the end to use the TPE. You never know if teams will need us to help make a big trade. Maybe we get lucky in the process.

My Two Year Pipedream:

After Wilson Chandler Opts In:
Denver Gets: Evan Turner
Portland Gets: Kenneth Faried, Wilson Chandler, Darrell Arthur

Then:
LA Clippers Get: Meyers Leonard, Caleb Swanigan, Kenneth Faried, Future POR 1st,
Portland Gets: Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic

After Minnesota fires Thibs because KAT is unhappy with him, Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson want out:
Minnesota Gets: C.J. McCollum, Al-Farouq Aminu,
Portland Gets: Jimmy Butler, Wesley Matthews
Dallas Gets: Taj Gibson, Jake Layman, Future 2nds

Nurkic accepts the QO, Davis accepts a 1 year deal:

Lillard / ?
Butler / Matthews
Chandler / Harkless
Harris / Collins
Nurkic / Davis

In Summer of 2019, GS doesn't offer Klay Thompson the MAX. Portland trades Harkless for a pick, and has max cap space by only keeping their players on rookie contracts, Dame, and the holds to Butler and Nurkic. Portland signs Klay Thompson. Matthews and Davis re-sign on the cheap.

Lillard / ?
Thompson / Matthews
Butler / ?
Collins / ?
Nurkic / Davis

That pipe better be a big one with a large dose of pot and shared with Denver for that to happen. Also, Faried can't be traded in a package with other players as his deal would have to be on its own to Clippers.

Denver saves apx. $40-M-50M in net payment. They're paying Jokic a ton of money this summer, and will be heavily in the tax, so saving $17M in salary is huge for them where they'r simply downgrading on rotation spot, in a trade that might let them keep the better overall SF (Barton).

You're wrong on the Faried thing. Farieds salary can't be "aggregated" with other salary. It's a rather tricky thing, but since Faried matches Harris by himself, and the other outgoing salaries match Boban's, the trade is workable. Basically, if Portland could split it into two separate trades where Faried is by himself for part of the package in one, with everything else being workable in a separate hypothetical deal, the trades can be combined into one. At least that's my interpretation of it. It's definitely not as simple as not being able to combine him with other players, I've read the actual CBA.

It's better than the LMA BS. If a GS Warrior All-Star wants to leave (partly because of money) to "come home" to Oregon, how couldn't you love that.
