Portland will be really agressive offering trash for good players

“Look, Brooke, we offered Meyers AND Al Farouq for a Otto Porter but as you know it takes two and the phones got pretty quiet here today.” *olshey laugh*

If this looks familiar, good. You get it.

what did you expect? Do you think you're the only one here who is hoping for a trade that either improves the team now or offers hope for improvement down the road? Everybody is hoping for something like that, but many have a hard time assigning any credibility to the exact same rumors we've heard before every trade deadline

this will be Olshey's 7th trade deadline. He's made two notable trades in the previous 6 seasons: one was the disaster of sending out Will Barton and a 1st for Afflalo. The other was the Nurkic trade when the primary motivation was to get out of Plumlee's RFA off-season and avoid tax exposure. And neither of the trades occurred when Portland was already over the tax line. And both happened when Paul Allen was alive

but we heard every year that Olshey was being aggressive. Every single damn year...and here we are again. We've also heard that Dame and CJ and Zach are all untouchable and it's safe to add Nurkic to that list. That really pares down trade assets when the negative value of Turner, Meyers, and Harkless are factored in. With the list of untouchable players and bad contracts, where is the options for aggression unless Olshey suddenly does something he hasn't in 7 years on the job?

I'm sorry, but the cynicism is justified and you should expect it to be expressed, even if it has been expressed before, over and over. There room for everybody...for those who want hope. And for those who want to piss & moan; I've got lots of those two and I'm a sharing kind of guy
If I remember correctly we were right on the tax line, maybe even a few thousand over it, and the Plumlee-Nurkic trade got us slightly under it. I think it had something to do with the 3pt% bonus for Harkless going from unlikely to likely which would have put us over the tax line and the trade got us out of that predicament.

The perpetual cynicism is tiring. There are still people like me who get excited by rumors or hints of trades. Neil is a patronizing asshole who clearly doesn't understand this market, but there's very little else I can hope for with this team outside of a possible trade. Getting constantly told that any rumor/hint/etc is bogus is annoying. If we don't have even a bit of hope of improving this roster, there's no point in following this team.
Keep posting stuff @yuyuza1. I'm a cynic too but you shouldn't take it personally, it has nothing to do with you. What I'm tired of is being disappointed, like with the big trade exception that wasn't a rumor as Olshey said several times what an asset it was and then never used it. Or how about paying the Bulls to take Vonleh away last year when it was also said we were going to be aggressive.

Going back to a trade posted from a Dallas forum, I think I've broken the code. It involves 4 teams but part of it could be broken into smaller trades if necessary, it was just easier to show as one.

Dallas gets CJ and Turner

Washington gets Harrison Barnes and Aminu

Phoenix gets Dennis Smith Jr

Portland gets Otto Porter, Wes Matthews, and Mikal Bridges

Dallas fans wanted to do this because they thought CJ would be a much better fit with Luka than DSJ is. Washington gets two quality players and saves a ton of future money. Phoenix gets a PG upgrade.

Portland completely reshapes their wing rotation with Dame and Nurk still the main focus of the starting lineup. Our starting lineup becomes pretty dang good with Dame, Wes, Harkless, Porter, and Nurk. Then we have Mikal on the 2nd unit for now ready to take over a starting spot next season since Wes is expiring. That gives us all kinds of switchability on defense.

Who says no on this one?

I love every bit of that trade!

Alright, jeez. We get it. It's been said before and we have to wait to see if they'll do anything this time. Was just passing on what I heard.

Man, this forum has gotten so cynical of late. A lot of that has to do with Neil/Terry/status quo.

Don't feel like it is a personal attack. Most of us are smart enough to not blame the messenger.

Meh, I think theres be a workaround with trading Nurkic since he got his contract already. His agent got his cut now.

Of course wed likely have to trade CJ but if we could get Brogdon and Hill for CJ like I said then use picks to shed ET/Meyers, then I think we'd be in business.

Stop trying to add George Hill to my favorite basketball team.

He's garbage.

I absolutely understand what you are saying. For me, the cynical gallows humor is the last line of defense.

Roasting Olshey is much easier than drowning in the reality that we’re not winning a championship anytime soon. Let us have that.
I'm just scared that since Paul Allen isn't around to value draft picks that he'll go crazy trading them away in marginal trades.

That's not the point of that at all. Literally an expiring contract to match salary that helps us get a cheap CJ replacement who's probably better in Brogdon.

Smh.

Why are you shaking your head? I'm just giving you shit about something I've given you shit about before. I thought you'd remember.

Heres a question that may get louder with time; How much is Layman going to get paid?

Is he really good at basketball? Yes
Is he a criminal? No
Would he make us better? Hell yeah

Literally the only stat I care about:

Same reason I don't want Kevin Love on this team.

STUPID contract, injury PRONE.

CJ+Aminu+Simons+2019 1st

for

Griffin+Bullock+2019 2nd

I'd be hesitant to pull the trigger though.

Hes changed his game a ton, like I said. Much more likely to remain healthier now, and were going to have to take a risk on a star with some problems at some point if we want to contend.

Olshey won't do it.

if he continues to play well, it's possible he gets offered more than a team without an owner and on the edge of the luxury tax is prepared to pay. A lot of teams will have lots of cap-space this summer...may be a seller's market

I will say his 3 point shooting has fallen off a cliff over the last 5-6 weeks; that might depress his value if it continues. He does have a high TS% but he may need to show a lot more in terms of rebounding and assists to get into the 3-6M/year range, especially if his 3pt% stays low

Bro... Stop... He played 58 games just last season... On that BLOATED contract....

So I'm supposed to believe from last year to this one he's changed his game so much he won't get injured?

Have have swampland in Arizona for sale! Get it while it's hot!

Michael Jordan slapped Steve Kerr around a couple times. He also yelled at teammates. Good thing we never drafted him.
