If he wanted to go, yes. However, base-year compensation trade rules would also have to be considered.

Also, sign and trades need to be agreed on and done simultaneous with the signing. We can't sign him and then a day or so later trade him.

Yeah, I read that. Appears to be some trouble in paradise.

Kind of makes sense, except Thibs would have no use for a rookie, even the #1 pick.

Utah Gets: Al-Farouq Aminu, 30th Pick
Portland Gets: Thabo Sefelosha, 21st Pick, 34th Pick
Atlanta Gets: 24th Pick, Future POR 2nd

Utah will likely lose Favors and Aminu would be a solid replacement as a 3-and-D PF. They have a ton of wings and Sefelosha is coming off a severe injury so trading him isn't a loss. They only move down 9 picks.

Atlanta consolidates 2 of their 4 picks (30 & 34) into 24 and a future 2nd.

Portland moves up 3 spots and adds an early 2nd, and can keep Sefelosha or decline his player option.

Portland moves 1 ahead of Chicago at 22, which allows them to draft Chandler Hutchison. Portland takes Alize Johnson with the 34th pick.

Portland Gets: Tobias Harris
LA Clippers Get: Meyers Leonard, Caleb Swanigan, 2019 POR 1st, Right to Swap 2022 POR 1st, Future POR 2nds

Portland Gets: George Hill, 2019 NYK 2nd
Knicks Get: Evan Turner, 2021 POR 1st
Cavaliers Get: Courtney Lee
Pacers Get: Ron Baker, Future 2nd

Cavaliers save $7M, get a starting caliber SG, can use free agency to sign a backup PG.
Knicks add only $5M in salary over the next two years and get a 1st
Portland sheds Turner, gets back an ideal 3rd guard

Lillard / Hill / Baldwin
McCollum / Hill /
Harkless / Sefelosha / Hutchison
Harris / Collins / Johnson
Nurkic / Davis / Papagiannis

That team would be deadly. Our payroll would be $138M (which is decent given our improvement) and we'd have some cap flexibility next summer.

I don’t think Utah will lose Favors. They will sign him back on something like $35M / 3 years deal. They are also excellent at drafting and will fancy getting value at 21.

You traded the same thing twice again, ha ha. This time it's our 2019 pick.

Where are all the people that were crying about not bringing in Thibs? That dude sucks and doesn’t belong in today’s NBA. Players don’t respond to that abrasive style unless it’s Pop, and the thing with Pop is he actually tries to connect with his players in between berating them. Also won’t forget to mention Tommy boys brilliant strategy of playing his starters 45 minutes a night either. Fuck that guy.

I think even Pops shtick is wearing thin. He’s reportedly had issues with Simmons, Aldridge, and Kawhi in a two year span. Players are changing as is coaching styles and I don’t think grown men accept being coached like they’re still in college anymore.

I know this looks like a joke, but bear with me:

The Celtics have Tatum and Brown at the swing positions and they massively overpaid Hayward. Meanwhile, Brad Stevens is the only coach anywhere who can make Evan Turner into a valuable player. And if he can do that with Turner, why not Meyers? He's got Baynes shooting threes now, so surely he can use a center who's actually good at threes? If not, substitute Harkless maybe.

Where do I sign?

Where do I sign?
It's unlikely to happen, because it would require Ainge unloading the guy after he's played just one game for them, and bearing in mind that he's a former college player of Stevens', but it actually kind of makes sense. It's also risky, because if Ainge WERE willing to do it, that would probably indicate that he thinks Hayward won't be the same after injury.

And even if he IS the same - is he really worth that RIDICULOUSLY huge contract? Maybe Detroit and Boston can swap Griffin and Hayward.

This trade is not even in the realm of possibilities.

There is a better chance of LeBron signing for the Tax-MLE.

This trade is not even in the realm of possibilities.

There are three kinds of possibility.
Logical possibility is the broadest. Very few things are logically impossible, and this isn't one of them.
Narrowest is "physically possible". But even under that, this is possible. Consequently, it is, in fact, "in the realm of possibility."
(In between those is "metaphysical possibility," as discussed by philosophers like Saul Kripke, David Lewis and Alvin Plantinga. This involves talk of "possible worlds". There is definitely a possible world where this trade happens. According to David Lewis, that world is just as real as this one.)

There is a better chance of LeBron signing for the Tax-MLE.
I don't know much about probability... but I know that's not true.

Lol... Platy knows the CBA as well as anyone (except maybe HoopsJock...), he doesn't need to be told how a sign-and-trade works haha.

This 3 Team trade Sounds really good:

Philadelphia receives CJ McCollum (traded away Fultz, Bayless, and the 10th pick)

LA Clippers receive Markelle Fultz and the 24th (traded away Harris and the 13th pick)

Portland receives Tobias Harris, Jerryd Bayless the 10th pick and 13th picks. (traded away CJ McCollum and the 24th pick)

and I was just adding more information to his post for anyone that might be interested. Feel free to ignore and not respond next time haha.

Man fuck... C'mon bones... Why you always wanna trade for George Hill??

I think he fuckin sucks... He's killin' me in this Cavs series.

From B/R

Dallas Mavericks Get: Chandler Parsons, Evan Turner, Memphis’ No. 4 pick in 2018

Memphis Grizzlies Get: Harrison Barnes, Dallas’ 2019 first-round pick (top-10 protected in 2019, top-five protected in 2020), Portland’s No. 24 pick in 2018

Portland Trail Blazers Get: Wesley Matthews

Portland is glad to get off Evan Turner’s salary for the price of its No. 24 pick, reuniting with Matthews on a deal that expires after the 2018-19 season.

Not only would that get Portland some much-needed cap relief following the 2018-19 season (while keeping their core intact), they would also get a hard-nosed, proven “three and D” player beloved in the city of Portland. While Matthews is on the wrong side of 30 (he turns 32 in October), he has remained a productive player in three seasons with the Mavericks. He is set to make $18.6 million in the upcoming and final year of his contract.

Matthews spent five seasons in Portland from 2010-2015. The “Iron Man” has averaged over 30 minutes per game every year since his rookie season with the Utah Jazz. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for the Mavs this season in 63 games, all starts. He shot 40 percent from the field and 38 percent from distance.

I like the idea, but Portland doesn't need Matthews or payroll relief as much as they need picks. If they can get payroll relief and add picks, I am all for it. They have two ways of adding talent: 1- Draft 2- Trades. They have to be real smart on what they add and losing the pick won't help them even at the relief of payroll because relief only matters if you can sign someone of use with that money which Portland has not done for years. Just my opinion.
