Kyle Korver is reportedly on the trade block while JR Smith has officially asked for a trade.

Would you trade Turner and Leonard for those 2?

Same contract duration and nearly identical contract numbers.

I'd consider it because the contract numbers are not the same. There's significant savings this year AND both Korver and Smith are PARTIALLY guaranteed for the 19-20 season.

This year, Turner and Meyers make $28.4M ($17.8 + 10.6M). Meanwhile Smith & Korver make $22.2M ($14.7+$7.5M). This $6M savings would put us within $2M of the tax line. Flip one of them for a slightly worse, but cheaper player & we're out of the tax.

JR Smith is partially guaranteed for $3.87M until June 30, 2019.
Korver is partially guaranteed for $3.4M until July 7, 2019.

Worst case, you keep both this year & cut them in June. This would wipe out Turner/Leonard contracts for ~ $7M next year.

Last year, most definitely.
I'm not convinced that Turner will play like this over the course of a season - but if he can (another big if!), I'd rather have him than Korver or Smith (I can't believe I just wrote that!). I don't dislike Smith as much as many people in here do, and until Turner changes my mind I would typically rather have Smith in the POs. But I think Smith is just about done. If there's no salary savings then there's no benefit.

With the posting of the salary info, I'm open to considering it. Not sold. But my argument for making the trade is this:

I'm of the mind that - at best - we're an als0-ran this season. With that in mind, I'm open to making changes that make us worse on the court - which I think this trade might do. But the salary savings are significant for a team no longer being operated by Paul Allen. Unfortunately, the salary savings don't really do anything to improve the team's flexibility to make roster moves, so it's purely financial (and sure, a step towards avoiding repeater status blah blah blah). But, as a fan who isn't concerned with how competitive we are this season, I'm more interested in seeing Simons, Baldwin, and Trent than I am in watching Turner. So I think it has pros from both a management and fan perspective.

If what you care most about is the W/L record, then I understand being against this trade (and I'm still partially against it).

I was going to post something along this lines. It looks like Washington should blow things up. Porter is their highest paid player.

So we’re giving up the asset to land Butler, and not landing Butler? I’ll take Butler over Porter, even if it ends up being just a rental. I want guys that move the ball. Butler has settled in as a guy that averages 5 assists a game. Porter is even worse than CJ in that department. I used to want one of the wings on Washington, but the more I watch them play, the less interested I get. Oubre is even more selfish than Porter.

I know. I doubt any team would be willing to trade their respective players tomorrow or even this month. By then it would be close enough to when Tolliver could be traded that theyd wait. His salary fits perfectly for the trade.

Porter's contract is almost identical to CJ's. I think Portland's ownership would have a tough time justying paying both players that much.

I mean I’d swap CJ for Porter in a vacuum but that trade obviously wouldn’t make sense for Washington so it would have to be another three way. But if we could get Butler, we should get Butler.

He has the ball enough to average better than an assist and a half per game. That’s Aminu territory. And he only averaged two assists a game in college, so I don’t know how you can blame surrounding circumstances either. I’d still take him over CJ, but he’s nowhere near Butlers caliber.

I thi k Porter has been held back by Brooks (similar coach to McMillan) and the backcourt he plays with. While he's not going to be a big time playmaker, he's a combo-forward and that's not really what we need from that spot (especially with a Point Forward off the bench). To say he's selfish is a big-time stretch, since hes used so much as simply a spot-up shooter.

How is it a stretch when all the evidence points to it? Washington has been top 5 in assists the last three seasons, so the real stretch here is suggesting he’s being held back by Brooks. Besides, Brooks isn’t the only coach he’s ever played under.

We need an elite shooter who can play without the ball and space the floor for Dame, CJ, E.T., and Nurk, as well as someone who can attack the open lane and get to the rim if it's there. We need someone who can defend at a high level across multiple positions.

Yes playmaking. I want the starters to be a better version of the second unit. The starting unit has two players willing/capable of creating for others and one of them is a center. Our second unit is largely responsible for most of our wins so far. Why not try and get the starters to play the same way?

Blazers have a chance to pair Dame with another top 15 player in Butler and take this team to the next level... with more than enough fire power in Stauskas and Curry to replace CJ at SG... would create so much balance to our roster and greatly increase size and defense to starting lineup... CJ would probably flourish in Minn as well

Honestly a KAT/Wiggins/CJ tandem doesn’t sound too bad. I mean there’s not a lot of defense there but I don’t think they could hope to get a better player for jimmy in their current situation.

There's no way a Butler trade happens.

Regardless of whether he'd help this team or not, his actions these last few weeks have made it clear to me that this FO is not bringing a guy like him in.
