No thanks on Love. If you are going to pay someone that much you should be able to count on them playing. Over the last three seasons he has not played more then 60 games. He has never been able to play a entire season without a injury. No more injury prone big guys.
 
Brooklyn is another team that probably wouldn't want CJ but they do have a lot of expiring contracts. They're a bad trade partner for him. Although if we could get rid of Turner's contract with CJ and Brooklyn was willing to sacrifice cap space this summer for CJ then there is one scenario which is somewhat intriguing. I don't think I'd like to get rid of CJ simply to save salary but this would be one of the better ones to do so:

CJ, Turner, and Swanigan for Carroll, Faried, and Dudley. The Nets have Denver's 1st round pick (currently #28) and NY's 2nd round pick (currently #33) maybe they'd throw one of those into the deal. It was save us about $6.7 million this year.

The real reason for something like this would be that this summer the Blazers would be down to just $77.5 million in contracts on the books and could reshape their roster without worrying about luxury tax. I know it's not a free agent destination but there are going to be a lot of free agents this summer. It also allows Olshey to get back to what he does best and find value players or take on unwanted players/salary dumps from other teams for picks or other assets.

CJ is not so terrible for us to have to salary dump him.

It’s just so hard to take any proposal involving CJ seriously, knowing who’s in charge. I’m not even sure he would trade Meyers Leonard, nevermind CJ. Thats how attached it feels like he is to his guys.

Yeah, I get it, it's not going to stop me from going through every team and seeing what is possibly out there though.

Ideally in a CJ trade we'd get a salary dump, a young player on a rookie deal with breakout potential, and a 1st round pick. That's why I said Brooklyn isn't a good trade partner.
 
One more team tonight: Next up is Charlotte, another poor trade partner for CJ. That is unless they valued him enough to give up their 1st round pick to get him. They might be willing to do that (once again if they want CJ) as they are currently in 6th in the East and that makes their pick #17 right now. I don't see anyway they pass Boston, Philly, Toronto, Milwaukee, or Indy in the East so that pick likely at worst would stay there but has the potential to still be a decent lottery pick if they miss the playoffs because they are only 2 games away from falling to 10th in the East which would be the 7th pick right now. So most likely that pick would fall in the 7-17 range.

How about CJ, Swanigan, and Stauskas for Biyombo, Lamb, Bridges, and their 2019 1st round pick (top-5 protected).

Lamb could step in and fill CJ's starting spot and I don't think there would be a huge drop off except maybe 3 point shooting but CJ's been struggling from 3 anyway. Miles Bridges gives us a rookie wing to develop. Like I said above this would strictly come down to whether or not they liked CJ otherwise there is no way they'd give that much up even though dropping the dead weight of Biyombo would be good for them.
 
I guess it has been posted again (100%) but only real good trade that fills a team need without letting go CJ (because i guess Neil can't let him go) is getting Otto Porter. Wizards don't want salary back so give em the expiring of Aminu+Harkless,Curry, Swanigan. They save 15M and we get a decent starter that is 25 years old. Bad contract, but useful player and we also ask for Jeff Green since they don't care to keep him and we need him if we let go Aminu, Harkless.

Dame, CJ, Porter, Nurkic doesn't have any big 3 in it, I don't see even a big 2 as only Dame is really really good, but I see a solid 4.

Combine both ideas. Get Lamb from Charlotte, and Porter from Washington, while sending CJ to DC, and Beal over to the Hornets, and saving the Wiz almost $15M this year alone.

That's a hell of a deal for CHA. A legit star for two rotation players? I'd take out CJ/Beal/CHA altogether.

Harkless and Aminu for Porter.

To make it more reasonable, Bridges to WAS should be included in that too.

Also, I just want Lamb instead of CJ.
 
Porter is a good target but I wouldn't give up CJ to get him, especially if I also have to take Marvin Williams contract. Washington should basically be happy to trade Porter for anybody who has a shorter deal and earns less, so Aminu and Harkless would be enough, probably.

Apparently Dallas are also interested in Porter and I think Sacramento will try to move for him at some point as well.

We'd also be shedding Harkless, so Williams is only a $4M increase over him, and he's a better player. Plus we'd be getting Lamb back to fill CJ's spot, and do so with better defense. Money is the only real downside to the above proposal.

In other threads earlier, I've detailed how I think that Lamb is severely underrated. He's a good scorer, plays better off the ball than CJ does, and is bigger and better defensively. I think he'd be a better fit for this squad alongside Dame than CJ is. It's not a knock on CJ so much as praise of Lamb.

But I don't see why Wizards would replace Beal with CJ unless there is 1st round pick included. Beal is a better player and 2 years younger.

That's part of why I said later that Charlotte would need to include Miles Bridges as well. That and the overall large salary savings for WAS that this combined deal facilitates.

Regarding savings swapping Beal for CJ doesn't make a difference, they have the same contract. But yes getting Bridges would be good.

No, the savings would be swapping Porter's $26M for Harkless' 10.8 (or even Meyers' 10.6), a swap that can't happen on its own, but only as a part of a larger deal.
 
Going back to a trade posted from a Dallas forum, I think I've broken the code. It involves 4 teams but part of it could be broken into smaller trades if necessary, it was just easier to show as one.

Dallas gets CJ and Turner

Washington gets Harrison Barnes and Aminu

Phoenix gets Dennis Smith Jr

Portland gets Otto Porter, Wes Matthews, and Mikal Bridges

Dallas fans wanted to do this because they thought CJ would be a much better fit with Luka than DSJ is. Washington gets two quality players and saves a ton of future money. Phoenix gets a PG upgrade.

Portland completely reshapes their wing rotation with Dame and Nurk still the main focus of the starting lineup. Our starting lineup becomes pretty dang good with Dame, Wes, Harkless, Porter, and Nurk. Then we have Mikal on the 2nd unit for now ready to take over a starting spot next season since Wes is expiring. That gives us all kinds of switchability on defense.

Who says no on this one?

I think they thought getting CJ would take more than Barnes and DSJ (Dallas fans are pretty down on both) so taking on Turner's contract was the incentive for Portland to do it.
 
I think it’s time to explore expiring contracts we could get for Leonard and our pick. Realistic destinations would be teams that aren’t players in the FA market/rebuilding.

Here are some possibilities:

Nikola Mirotic- NOP
Zach Randolph- SAC
Alec Burks- CLE
Iman Shumpert- SAC
Terrence Ross- ORL
Jared Dudley- BRK
Kosta Koufus- SAC
Markieff Morris- WAS
Jerryd Bayless- MIN
Darrell Arthur- PHX
Dewayne Dedmon- ATL
Wesley Johnson- NOP

Mirotic would be ideal, but I’m not sure where the Pelicans are as a franchise. My guess is they want to put together the best possible team to sell AD on staying, so we could probably forget him.

Ross would be my next target, plus he’s from Portland. Would give the blazers an advantage if they decided they wanted to re-sign him. I don’t think Orlando would be against taking on Meyers, no top free agent is going there anyway.

What's the motivation for this? I don't think dumping Meyers and one year remaining after this one is worth losing a pick.
 
I've never figured out what all the attraction is for Otto Porter. I get that he's more consistent than Harkless and probably has a wider skill-set. But he's not an all-star level talent and he's already 25.

one of biggest issues with CJ is that he's not all-star level but has a near max contract. He's overpaid substantially and that contract is a significant obstacle to Portland exercising any flexibility. Porter has an identical contrat. Trading CJ for Porter just trades one bloated contract for another. It would not alter Portland's trajectory much at all....not like it would if CJ had been traded for Paul George or Jimmy Butler or Kawhi Leonard. Those would have been risks worth taking. I don't know that CJ for Porter is a risk worth taking, but I guess any step that alters the rhythm on a treadmill is worth trying...hell, at a certain point in time, just crashing off a treadmill is better than staying on

I wouldn't trade CJ for Porter. I'd trade Aminu and Turner and pick(s) however.

I wouldn't trade CJ for Porter straight up but the jewel of my trade is getting Mikal Bridges. We need a young stud wing. As for Porter, he's a 40% career 3 point shooter so the thought is if he was in Aminu's role getting all those wide open 3's that it would be better for the offense. Plus he was a playmaker in college so maybe he's being underutilized in Washington. I agree that his contract is really bad and comparable to CJ.
